I always clean out the floor void, much better for the next person going in there, and if it's your own house that's likely to be you! Really cuts down the mess though if a quick cable or pipe needs to run at a later date.
I replaced a standard ceiling fan with a Manrose MF100T and what a difference... It really clears the room and I don't find it as noisy as the old one. In the loft, I used four little rubber grommets in-between the fan and the floorboard for a little extra bit of noise reduction.
i like when he said i dont like living rubbish under floor boards that shows me he takes his job motivated with pride and good worker i respect people like that
So good to see a builder that's conscientious and likes to do a good job that's looks correct. I've met and worked with so many that just Bosh the job out and move on.
Amazing video. Just one thing to point out regarding the extractor fan, the Manrose MF100T is in fact a 4"/100mm in line extractor fan, the size you hate. The 6"/150mm is the MF150T. Both models offer a lower speed, so the customer could still have it slightly quieter if it's currently on the high setting.
Just found him. I have had a few dodgy builders but the worse thing was when we had water leak and on lifting the floor to trace it we were shocked to find our joist gaps were filled with lots of rubble, dirt and dust. What it taught me is 'never' leave any workmen in your house without being there yourself to just keep an eye on them. I also caught a neighbours builder dropping lots of rubble in between the gap between out houses, there was no way 'ever' of retrieving this.
Those kind of people who do things like that are just sharks interested in the money and nothing else. The sad thing is that even the money is never enough for them. I know some of these guys who just drink the lot or shove it up their nose.
Wicked video mate - worked with a tradesman of your caliber for over 5 years myself and it is pretty positive when you see the same methods be used by yourself. Thank you Sir!
Great video 👌🏼. Small tip . As the back plates was sunk in the wall for the towel rad instead of using adaptors you could of used 60/100mm rad tails and cut to size
I love this video. I’ve watched three times to try and make me brave enough to install an entire en suite in my house. It’s so comprehensive and by leaving in the odd few mistakes it’s such a good tutorial. Thanks guys, great job. 👌🏼🏴👍🏼

Hi Chris When you break it down it is not as difficult as it seems. The biggest obstacle is the time it takes. If you are trying to do it at weekends that is a long time to be without a bathroom
You are a true perfectionist. *If a job is worth doing, it is worth doing well* You would be an absolute diamond for young apprentices with your accumulated knowledge.
That was the best 2 hours ive spent in front of a screen in years !!!! Why ? - because its an absolute delight to watch a skilled professional at work doing it "old school" with belt, braces and an extra belt just in case. Hats off to all the plumbers out there with the same mentalityy.
Absolutely brilliant. Inspiring work ethic - trying your very best to get everything 'spot on', love it :-) I also love the fact that the mistakes were left in - makes me feel like I don't have to be perfect!
Only trouble with the laser line is if everything you're marking is in the same plane it's fine. Anything behind that plane will be out depending on how much further back it is if your laser is not spot on 90 degrees to the reference plane/wall. Love the videos great info.
Its one thing to know and do something its quite another to teach it. This amazing gentleman does both with style and grace. A very pleasant and helpfull video to watch. Many thanks.
On the Space Shuttle crash. There was two o-rings on the booster sections. They both failed. They knew that one wasn't enough as they had failed in the past, so they thought the same as you did. Two should do it. It didn't. The o-rings got so cold they both went brittle, cracked, and the rest is history. As they were solid rocket boosters, they couldn't be switched off once ignited. Tragic. Loved watching this. You really are a true craftsman. A joy to watch. Thank you.
@@SkillBuilder You are clearly a perfectionist! I suppose there is always room for improvement throughout life, but experience is something that cannot be taught, but can be shared. Once again, thank you.
Amazing. Great tips too, hopefully pros will be taking notes. I like how you think about other tradesmen in advance "lets make everyones life a bit easier..." that speaks miles about your character.
When cutting holes with a diamond cutter with no centre guide is drill a piece of wood the same size hole and use the wood as a guide to start your hole on centre. No slipping or trying to start the hole, once you have the start of the cut , remove the wood and carry on. Bathroom is looking mint.
Another solution is use a hammer gently with a center punch to mark the tile and use a white Bosch ceramic tile bit that cuts like butter I use a 7mm for 6 mm rawl plugs so it gives 1mm for expansion to not crack the tile
Don't worry about being late, we hope these videos will be up there for a good while and if they are being watched we are happy. Thank you for the encouragement
I've only recently subscribed to this channel. God knows why because I've been watching all kinds of building and tool review videos for years. Love the content. Always something new to learn and watched this from beginning to end. I don't know how old you are Roger but it seems like I've been reading your forwards in professional builder since I was in my twenties (I'm 63 )! Well, you know what I mean. Anyway, I remodelled my bathroom back in 2006 and used Wedi board throughout which is much the same as elements. There are 2 solid walls and 2 stud walls. The solid walls were taken back to brick and had a sand and cement render which I then bonded 6mm wedi board to and used 12mm on the walls. The floor had 50mm as it's a wet room with a wedi shower tray and Dalmer drain. Floor and wall to floor joints were sealed with neoprene tape and I even used the proprietary internal and external corner pieces. One of the other things I used but not many others do or have heard of even are Schluter profiles. I used them on the floor to wall transitions and wall corners. The floor profiles come in 2 parts as you order them for the correct floor and wall tile thickness combination. There's not a single bead of silicone in the entire bathroom and in the 14 years it's been in, it hasn't moved or leaked anywhere which is what you expect of course. Also, whilst I remember I used their bath profile which flits under the tiles. it meant that I could tile the bathroom before fitting the bath and when I did I just jacked it up to snugly fit under the trim. Again, it hasn't moved at all and the seal is still as good as the day it was fitted. I'd be interested in what you think of these profiles and even a video on them would be great. They are expensive but my way of looking at it is that you only do it once. Of course, this was for me so cost (within reason) wasn't an issue
Hi Paul Nice to know somebody was reading all that stuff I wrote for over 30 years. I am 67 now so a bit older than you. Sadly Professional Builder got rid of me last year because the advertising revenue has gone through the floor and they had to trim the operation to save money. No matter I am busier than ever on Skill Builder and reach a much larger audience. Hardly anyone mentions magazines these days and I don't think that young people would know what to do with one. If it isn't on their phone they don't want to know.
@@SkillBuilder Yes, unfortunately that's the way the print media is going. My wife, recently retired worked, for various merchants from Hall and Co then build center to Jewson to Keyline so she always brought home a copy! Keep up the good work. It's a great channel and also love Robins videos. Couldn't believe that I didn't know the tape at an angle measurement trick!
Just a quick comment about the solvent. I used to work in the water transmission industry and for several years in my career, & I was responsible for providing clean drinking water to over 2.5 million people every day. So I had an Expansive system to operate to say the least. And we had multiple systems that operated on 18" - 36" PVC And we used to have to glue joints that you would literally climb inside the pipe! LOL! We would have to have full oxygen environment provided. It looked like deep see diving 100 yrs ago. It still blows my mind that these glue joints of such size can handle vibrations, water hammer, and high pressure the way they do. Chemistry is the best friend of the construction industry! Big shout out to all the chemical engineers out there that provide us with these awesome products that help make us look good & warranty our work comfortably...
Hi Philip What a great comment. I hav never really thought about the contribution they make but you are right. We just accept there is a product that will solve our problem.
@@SkillBuilder Think about the products we were working with just 20-30yrs ago? Building with high tech materials is what will help our environment as much as phasing out petrol engines. And when installed correctly under proper building codes then u get a product that is far superior to anything we produced traditionally.
What a great production Roger! Not only educational but highly entertaining with several laugh out load moments. I watched the whole thing with my wife sat next to me, transfixed. As I think somebody else in the comments here said, "better than anything on Netflix!"
Great video Roger, next time someone asks me to quote for a wet room/bathroom I will show them this video so they know how much work, thought and expertise goes into the picture they have seen in a magazine.!
Bit like my daughter's ex-council 1960 maisonette. Original building could withstand the atom bomb but several refits of back boiler plumbing to central heating and various changes of lights and power wiring with all the old fittings and sawdust left by council tradespeople was a real puzzle to analyse, diagnose, and clean up to bring pipes, water supply, boiler, and electrics up to standard with many more sockets. Nice to see plumber thinking about making life easy for tiling - doesn't always happen!
Just about to renovate my bathroom, have sturdy all of your videos invested in elements board and many other recommendations. If successful I will save thousands on installation costs!! Thanks Roger top bloke 👍
Now a self employed plumber mainly doing bathrooms so these videos are great for learning new ways to do things. I must say though Abacus customer service is not great at all. I have been sending emails in regards to becoming a seller of abacus bathrooms but getting no response from them.
Thinking 'Outside the Box'........... Redundancy...........Duplication....... Mechanical Protection and 'Over- Engineering',.........plus that little unexpected thing that might just occur. All I was ever taught.....and which still holds true in completing all jobs... Add to this an open mind that allows you to recognise that innovation, (new stuff ), might just provide you with a better way of doing something. Outstanding video, delivered with good grace and a sense of humour.... It really doesn't get much better than this....... Oh and hat tip to the gentleman completing the tiling.... Quality workmanship.... James Hennighan Yorkshire, England
A massive thank you to Roger and the entire team. I’ve been binge-watching loads of your videos during lockdown and they are the only thing that have kept me sane. Your are an absolute inspiration. (Although screen-shotting the name of each tool as it comes up and then ordering it online is not doing my bank balance any good!) I’ve just watched this entire video from start to finish (and will probably watch it again at some point). One quick question - what’s the process for getting those plans drawn up (with studs etc). Your plans appeared to have been printed by Abacus themselves. I would like to attempt to do the work myself. Happy to order all of the Abacus stuff, but when I contacted them they said the company you order the Abacus parts through will do the design and then Abacus will decide what parts you need.
Amazing, thanks for sharing such a detailed vid. I'm currently having my bathroom remodelled by professionals and enjoy following along seeing what they are doing. Maybe one day I'll tackle my other bathroom myself using the knowledge from this!

Brilliant could not stop watching well done.
A great job from start to finish, well done Roger and the team!
Thank you Roger once again. Your advices are more than appreciated and helpful. Also many thanks for the skill builders badge. Love you mate!
Glad to help
Made me want to get back in my van and go and do a few more hours at work , I love being a tradesmen 👍
Best video I've seen about bathroom renovation, and i've seen plenty
I do admire the skill involved with producing such a great bathroom.
And we did it the same way u would a small glue joint.
Please do
Quality vid, there’s too many that just skip through but at least this shows every step. Learned loads, nice one 👍
You see folks !
Taking your time leads to the best finish.
Well done SB !
I wish i knew TH-cam and the skillbuilder Chanel before i started renovating my home 5 years ago! Ready great info on the Chanel!!
Awesome stuff. Great insite into the technicalities of bathroom installation.
Great workmanship and pride and attention fto detail.
Just about to renovate my bathroom, have sturdy all of your videos invested in elements board and many other recommendations. If successful I will save thousands on installation costs!! Thanks Roger top bloke 👍
I have just finished this for the 5th time such an informative video. Love the built in way of construction.
Blimey mate that is dedication. I am glad it helps you out.
Now a self employed plumber mainly doing bathrooms so these videos are great for learning new ways to do things. I must say though Abacus customer service is not great at all. I have been sending emails in regards to becoming a seller of abacus bathrooms but getting no response from them.
Wow the attention to detail is fantastic ..👏👏👏
You've solved my dodgy sink out of line waste pipe hole, will be ordering one of those abacus universal wastes. Nice one.

More of these videos please. What a great show!
Thanks Ashley, we'd like to do a kitchen one next
@@SkillBuilder Fantastic!!!
Brilliant video Roger. Inspirational and so informative 👍👍
Well made and informative video. The instructor reminds me of an Imperial officer on the bridge of a Star Destroyer.
All praise to you Roger, My knees would give up well before now. Good info thanks.
This was so fun to watch mate, really inspired by it. Watched every minute!
What an absolutely top tradesman Roger is, he even makes me believe that I can actually do things at home!!
A massive thank you to Roger and the entire team. I’ve been binge-watching loads of your videos during lockdown and they are the only thing that have kept me sane.
Your are an absolute inspiration.
(Although screen-shotting the name of each tool as it comes up and then ordering it online is not doing my bank balance any good!)
I’ve just watched this entire video from start to finish (and will probably watch it again at some point).
I love watching Roger, im debating whether to attempt my En-suite myself but need to get the courage up lol . But watching these videos makes me want to give it a go.
Well done Roger a very detailed instructional video,, 5 stars!!,,i was chuckling to myself,,i was watching you plastering the ceiling to repair/patch over the hole the electrician left and i thought I saw a hole in it,,,then I realised it was a spot of dust on my laptop screen....
LOL
Really surprising seeing how strong that silicone was on the old basin! Wowza
Just seen this,,, loved every minute of it I watch Skill Builder as soon as you put them out ,,,You do a great job lots of good tips,,, best of all is watching a skilled tradesman< doing his job and how easy he makes it look,,, (EXPERIANCE) Well done Guys Best on you tube
This is better than any movie I have seen.
Real quality work all round…..job well done guys.
Absolutely awesome vid
My only pick up is
I always repair ceiling and then paint it BEFORE tiling
It defo shouldn’t have been the very last job
Simply superb work a pleasure to watch and learn from
Thanks Glenn, we appreciate your support.
