I hit top speed right around that area on a yz250fx with 1 less tooth on rear also, but didnt have any speedometer. I am not a KTM fan, but that bike is awesome. Lighter, less snatchy throttle than the YZFX. Great desert ripper and mtn single tracker
Nice! I agree, the KTM's do feel lighter than the Yam's. I got my 250 for exactly that...a mtn single track bike. Also, I swapped out the stock ECU (they come from the factory too lean for my tastes) for a GET ECU...it completely changed the bike by making it soooo much better for power and throttle control. Check out the new top speed with the only change of installing a GET ECU. th-cam.com/video/dOi8DyZ2tQE/w-d-xo.html

SV650 owner, and Kawi KLX 300R owner... Looking to upgrade the 300R tho... Thought maybe I wanted a KTM 350 XCF, but then somebody said it's a LOT of bike...and to maybe check out the 250 XCF... I'm 5'11 + 220 pounds so...leaning 350 but, maybe 250... Thoughts ?!
My gut says 350 all the way! I strongly recommend "against" a 250 due to your size...it will pull you around but you will have to have the suspension completely redone...it is grossly under sprung in stock form. Would a KTM 250 ride circles around a KLX300R, most definitely yes! But the KTM 350s are the best all around bikes for almost any riding style, riding condition, skill level, etc.. If you are worried about the power of a 350 then just ride it one gear taller until you get comfortable with it. That is my gut answer; however, a good solid recommendation/answer requires a lot of additional info (i.e., riding skill, typical terrain, riding style--do you like REVs or low end power, etc., etc.). I can say without a doubt that a KTM 350 XCF is "not" a lot of bike. I'm 5+ inches shorter than you and a good 50 lbs lighter and I own 4 KTMs: 250 XCF, 450 XCF, 500 EXC, and 300 XCW. I've done power mods to all of them...because I like to make the bike do most of the work and I like it being done in the lower RPMs. Note: I've done top speed runs for all 4 bike on my channel--you can also checkout a few of my riding videos to see that I'm just an average rider...and I do not think the 450 is too much bike...which is crazy powerful when compared to the 350s (just 100cc bigger, but feels like 200+cc bigger on power). This is what I know...my 500 , 450, and 250 all feel pretty much the same as far as weight and size goes...the biggest diff that you feel is rotating mass influence and amount of torque off the bottom. The KTM 450s are very strong...they feel stronger than the 500s. The 250s are strong as well but require you to push the RPMs towards the mid-upper to upper range. The 350s are the best of both worlds...they ride like a strong 250 but a weak 450 (just what you would expect). I wanted a 450 as my primary bike so getting a 350 as well didn't make much sense...but I wanted a tight trail/slow speed bike so I went with the 250. If I had to only have one bike I most likely would have went with the 350. I hope this info provides some help...one last thing...you can always twist the throttle less but you can never twist it past full throttle! I think you would out grow a 250 rather quickly if using it as an all around bike...just my two cents.
@@SteveSmith-wl8yq Copy that !!! My gut instinct says go with the 350 as well ! I live in LA, CA...so when we go hit the dirt, it’s WIDE open. Wide, fast, smooth, open trails and fire roads, where I could really push it if need be. And then sometimes we’ll go to the MX track. And I like the work to be done in the lower RPM’s also ! Gonna check out your other videos now.
Stock gearing is 13/51...I have 13/50. The gap between 5th and 6th is super big and the gaps between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd are super close...so going with a 52 makes 1, 2, 3rd even way worse on being too close so I went down 1 to make 1, 2, and 3rd more useable while making 6th harder to pull. I really won't need 6th in most situations seeing that 5th gives me over 85 mph... and I just did a new high speed run with everything the same except for a new ECU with new tune... I hit 101.7 mph!!! Super happy with the power and gearing now.
Your question really needs to include skill level as well, but I'd say absolutely not IMHO. I have a 250, 300, 450, and 500 ... all off road models and I'm 5'6 and about the same weight. Your body size could actually use a larger displacement model... 350 or 450 ... 350 if more at the novice end of skill. One fact to keep in the back of your mind is that in the professional ranks ... MX & SX, 250s, 350s, & 450s pretty much turn the same lap times...they just do it slightly differently. IMHO, if you have solid throttle control then almost any size bike will work, but bigger bores are harder to out grow skill wise. Hope this info helps... Happy Holidays!!
@@tomcumby1118 100% agree! In fact, I already have the complete parts listing to convert it to a 6 speed trans. I'd already be splitting the cases if it had more than 15 hrs on the bike...still too new to take it apart.
@@mmaaddict78 I almost got one, but I'm a power guy ... I already have a 450 & 500 4t, and 300 2t... The 250 is just for super slow rocky single track...because I cannot touch the ground and I fallover a lot!!! Lightest bike to keep picking back up...😉
