Are the speeds, 1GBit/s, 10GBit/s etc, measured for Duplex communication or for BiDi?

The stated speeds are referencing one direction of the synchronous link, so the total throughput of a 1 Gbit/sec SFP is 1 Gbit/sec received and 1 Gbit/sec sent simultaneously.

Do you need Wavelength Division Multiplexing if you want to communicate over a single mode fiver on both directions
