A wireless extender does not work on any layer of the osi model (well as far as a networking device, but I guess layer 1), it just extends the signal from the WAP to reach a further location. Unlike a Wireless Access Point, which 'bridges' the wired network to a wireless one. Think layer 2 for a WAP and a type of antenna for a wireless extender.
Question - A wireless access point has bridging capability and can bridge clients to the same existing network, but doesn't a bridge function differently than an access point in that in connects two different networks? So aren't AP and Bridge two different things? Kindly help. Thanks.
A bridge connects two networks together at layer 2. An access point is a bridge as well, since it's connecting two layer 2 networks, even if those networks are different topologies. A switch does the same thing. It's all bridging.
