In fact, those MSI-cards were the only reason that buying guide had to have an F-tier. Is this card really this bad? It's too bad because it's very pretty. A lot of these defects seem to be manufacturing / use of unskilled labor defects. What card do you recommend for a 2070/2080/3070 range? A 1070 is good enough for all the games I play, but I'd like to buy a card with a really good NVENC encoder/decoder for video editing.... RTX... something. Back when I did PC repair, I hated all brand name PC's that weren't made of white box or whitebox component off the shelf parts. But I had a particular loathing for Dell... because they used a backwards BEX motherboard and half baked in house clam shell gull wing design case. Why? Why? These things are total grrbage was my thought every time.
It is so great to see your videos. Love the way you analyze and fix cards and point out cooling problems. I have a question; have a 3070 Founders Edition. Right from day one while playing games it goes up to 77 degrees. If I keep running MSI afterburner while playing, the RPM of fans is higher, and temps decrease up to 5 degrees. I fear that it might not live long. is it normal for 3070 FE to have such temps or shall I RMA it as its still under warranty? Is there anything I can do to bring the temps down? Thank you.
77c is totally fine and within specifications. Ye its crap but its a founders edition so it is to be expected. I bet if u got an AIB card the temps wouldn't even exceed 70c lmao always avoid founders edition
bro this card is actually doing good! i have a 5700xt mech which pulls 195 wats in furmark but the temps rise to 79 edge and 99 hotspot! with the exact same cooler 2080 ventus! how is this possible. I even repaste it as it should be ( done by a professional not my self) yet it still is hot as f#ck!😕
this and amd mech cards kinda are budget go to for many people but id rather go a little above their budget cause the are kinda under build and sometimes limited to not overheat.
today i bought gtx 1060 3gb evga sc i had option to buy this evga 1060 for 80$ or to buy inno3d 6gb version that was 110$ i could buy the 6gb model but there was apsolutely zero memory cooling and poorly build cooler so i decided on evga and its good so far.
What do you think about asus tuf cards ? I just picked up a tuf 4090 oc And so far it’s been pretty good other than not being binned very well for an oc model lol. Isn’t stable above 2.9ghz at all.
Asus TUF is definitely better than MSI Ventus. Still Asus does make some questionable decisions with their designs, but for the most part they are, right now the most reliable brand imo. Gigabyte, MSI (not Suprim X) and others always have more stupidity put in their cards. I exclude Suprim X because they are overbuilt.
I have a 2070 variant of this card. I'm definately not impressed with the build quality. Is it the worst cooler in the world? No. Far from it. But like you saw in the video, the thermal pads were only halfway on the memory chips. Not only that, but the bottom two memory chips aren't even fully covered by the heatsink. So even if you put the pads on properly, it's not going to matter for those in particular. MSI was like "oh it's ok, these 2 chips will just be passively air cooled hopefully". So these Ventus models are basically close to bottom of the barrel compared to the competition, but they're still slightly better than some generic graphics cards produced by Dell or HP.
I had a ventus rtx 2060 and it was fine but would stay at 77 degrees by default. With some fan tuning I got it around 70. It wasn't a bad card but I wouldn't buy a ventus on a higher end card. They are pretty weak coolers, atleast for the 2000 series.
Is it possible to remove the 1gb gddr6x chips and install 2gb gddr6x chips on a 3080 ti to double the vram and have it work? Are you able to get them and can you quote me?
Just got 6900xt. I was unable to find anything wrong with it. Have 6500xt waiting for parts. Not sure if there will be a video about it. Also because Nvidia is dominating the marker so Nvidia is all I get 99% of the time.

I fear that it might not live long. is it normal for 3070 FE to have such temps or shall I RMA it as its still under warranty? Is there anything I can do to bring the temps down? Thank you.
FE cards run hotter because they are garbage.
NVIDIA does not know how to make good cooling system, Gigabyte does.
77C is not bad. It can go up to 90.
Try undervolting it and use fan control to pair fans to gpu temperature. got my 3060ti from 75 to 70c doing that.
@@northwestrepair thank you very much
@@vinicio1089 thanks I will try it out
77c is totally fine and within specifications. Ye its crap but its a founders edition so it is to be expected. I bet if u got an AIB card the temps wouldn't even exceed 70c lmao
always avoid founders edition
Do you need to replace the motherboard often with how much you insert/remove GPUs? Thanks 🙇♂
Can you plz do a simple tutorial series of how to trouble shoot your GPU by Your self?🥺
I have the 2070 super Gaming X Trio... Its an absolute beast for Overclocking, but it always crashes games if I ever turn on Raytracing
Amazing ..
Entertaining video.
bro this card is actually doing good! i have a 5700xt mech which pulls 195 wats in furmark but the temps rise to 79 edge and 99 hotspot! with the exact same cooler 2080 ventus! how is this possible. I even repaste it as it should be ( done by a professional not my self) yet it still is hot as f#ck!😕
What a goat
this and amd mech cards kinda are budget go to for many people but id rather go a little above their budget cause the are kinda under build and sometimes limited to not overheat.

today i bought gtx 1060 3gb evga sc i had option to buy this evga 1060 for 80$ or to buy inno3d 6gb version that was 110$ i could buy the 6gb model but there was apsolutely zero memory cooling and poorly build cooler so i decided on evga and its good so far.
What do you think about asus tuf cards ? I just picked up a tuf 4090 oc
And so far it’s been pretty good other than not being binned very well for an oc model lol.
Disassembly looks decent. At least it doesn't use a smooth baseplate for the VRM and VRAM cooling. I'm surprise Asus didn't pull an Asuck this time
Tuf usually have good build quality
I would always spread the thermal paste.
Do they put the serial number inside the card too? Someone sent me a card without a serial number sticker.
Which gpu manufactures do a good job?
Msi ventus are actually ok its the lack of QC thats the issue , that card should've bever left the assembly line
super Ventus are MSI's cheaper design line ups (at least to me, judging by the price compared to their gaming X variants).
What is hotspot temp? GPU die or VRM or VRAM or something else?
Where are u located , i agree ir doing a better job then most others.
US
I have a 2070 variant of this card.
Do you do amd cards? Like a 6900xt or 6950xt?
awsome
Ya you have an msi card sorry my advice is your fed!! Thanks repair guy
Have you ever tried soldering two 1GB memory chips on a 3080 10GB card and reflashing it to see if it'll work as a 12GB card?
Never tried.
3080 12gb has more SM's (70 vs 68 on original), so it probably wouldn't work since it's not an identical core configuration.
I think shorts of your videos would help. You will attract another type of viewers that only want to consume 1 minute or so.
I ve stoped buying msi products since 12 years now ! Msi, lenovo are the worst brands ever ! Great repair as always !
The original 2080 Super ventus had a much better fan
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I had a ventus rtx 2060 and it was fine but would stay at 77 degrees by default. With some fan tuning I got it around 70. It wasn't a bad card but I wouldn't buy a ventus on a higher end card. They are pretty weak coolers, atleast for the 2000 series.
Is it possible to remove the 1gb gddr6x chips and install 2gb gddr6x chips on a 3080 ti to double the vram and have it work? Are you able to get them and can you quote me?
1mm thermal pad or 1.5 ???
I've noticed you haven't repaired many or if any AMD GPU, is this because people don't send them in or do you not work on AMD cards.
Just got 6900xt.
I was unable to find anything wrong with it.
Have 6500xt waiting for parts.
Not sure if there will be a video about it.
Also because Nvidia is dominating the marker so Nvidia is all I get 99% of the time.
@@northwestrepair Figured it was a case of consumer demand, less people buying so less repairs. Cheers.
@@northwestrepair There is very little AMD repair material on yt, especially the newer series, especially since not many people know how to repair these cards and it would be great if you would add more AMD repair materials from time to time, we could learn a lot from that.
nice..
How often do pads rip when removing chips? Can it be avoided or minimized?
Don't play football with the card.
If card is heavy, use supports.
Not menny cards you like hehe 🙂
I like gigabyte vision
He's EVGA lover
Well, he has facts whenever he opens up a GPU. You can see in many of his vids the corners being cut with these AIBs.
