    Californian here. Fixed property taxes are a big bonus here along with being able to be at the desert, beach, or mountains all in the same day. Weather is good for the most part. However, most 40 year olds and up remember and want the CA from the 1980's, where people felt free to live, lower daily taxes, it was safe, and clean for the most part. Now with Newsom, it is no longer that way.
    I graduated from MC, so my ultimate goal is to get back to MS.

      @@LivingInJackson yes, let me reassure you that I do believe you have a better quality of life in MS. In CA, we often have 110 degree summers and about one month of rain, so it is dry here. We, in southern California, have pretty bad air quality, large homeless population, and crazy commute times from traffic, just mention the 91 to a Californian and you'll get an earful! I would say a vacation in CA is ideal, but everyday life not so much.

And also now a year later, the crime has increased so much bc our governor decreased punishment for any theft under $999 so stores have to just watch thieves walk out with their stuff. We recently did have an 80 year liquor store owner in Norco shoot a man from Los Angeles who tried to rob him so many Californians, thankfully, are armed now bc crime is so bad.

    It’s a great place to retire, but it’s drawing our young people away to places like Tennessee and Texas. Even in recent years, our state hasn’t grown in the past 5 years. Can’t say it’s too soon yet, but if the tred continues, it could hurt our state. Illinois and West Virginia are seeing the same thing. Everytime i go see my family in the delta, the area is dying more and more. The state needs to address that issue.

    Ok not that I would advocate ever living in Commiefornia because I’m a southerner myself, but considering the median household income in Mississippi is quite meager, it’s all relative. Also consider the violent crime and crumbling infrastructure in MS may deter many people from moving there if they’re used to any semblance of safety and poverty that isn’t as bad as a third world country.

I could save money and for a shack here in Californian i could afford a nice place there. I live in northern California and its 2 hours north of the capital. I can't think of Mississippi without seeing Emmett Tills face and what they did to him. All those people lynched for no good reason, and for their murderers to not only avoid consequences but also be held as heroes for it. Mississippi has got to be the most evil place on earth..

    • @LivingInJackson
      @LivingInJackson  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Mississippi I know today despises those episodes of history as much or more than any one in other areas of the country. I won’t say there aren’t people anywhere in the state that are like that, but evil people are everywhere. Bad things have happened all over the world throughout history, but that past doesn’t have to define the present or the future.

      @@LivingInJackson True there are evil people everywhere but not to the level of Mississippi. The people of Mississippi were offended and angry at the thought of any of the many murderers there to face consequences for those horrific crimes. I've never seen so many evil people in one place. I can't understand why any decent person would want to live there. Keep in mind this wasn't that long ago, people like Carolyn Bryant are still alive and with so many people advocating and protecting the right to behave this way, what do you think all those people were teaching their children?

      I think I'll have to agree to disagree with you. I live in Mississippi and the people I see are nothing like the ones you're thinking of. @@LivingInJackson Thank you i appreciate that and I don't doubt that you are a good person. But I guess we will have to agree to disagree. The way the overwhelming majority in Mississippi endorsed murder is something I've never seen in the history of the world. To see the way Roy Bryant and JW Milam were defended and held as heroes for mutilating and torturing a 14 year old boy to death by an entire state of people is just as unbelievable as it is true. That is an evil by a majority that is unheard of but again true. I feel like you are being honest to your experience in Mississippi but naive to believe that can truly change within a generation or two, I just don't see how that's possible. That whole state endorsed and even celebrated that demonic behavior. When Milam and Bryant were acquitted the whole state of Mississippi celebrated like they won the superbowl. Again I just don't believe its possible for that centament to disappear within a generation or two..

      I may not be the best person to ask just because I don’t really have that experience, but from my perspective anywhere here in the metro area is fine. I don’t feel like there is an area with a lot of racists. Sure they do exist here and there but the few I’ve ever gotten that vibe from I don’t associate with. Out in the more rural areas may be different but I’ve never lived outside of the metro and in Starkville which is a college town and very inclusive of pretty much everyone. I think that view that Mississippi is full of racists is outdated and if it exists, it’s limited to older people in more rural areas where I just haven’t been to see it. I've lived in Mississippi for 40 years that's all my life. The only comparison between Mississippi and California is that Mississippi has a lower cost of living than California. But other than that Mississippi isn't for young and energetic people, it's for retirees and for people that wants to settle down and enjoy a laid back slow paced life. California is way more beautiful than Mississippi and Mississippi is a rural state with no big nor metro cities. California has more jobs, business, entertainment and better schools. Mississippi is the poorest, worst, high poverty, lack of businesses, lack of entertainment. It's really nothing to do in Mississippi. Mississippi is behind and last in a lot of things.
