From my analysis, people overpaid for homes even while loan rates were low, I believe there will be a housing catastrophe because these people are in debt. If housing costs continue to drop and, for whatever reason, they can no longer afford the property and it goes into foreclosure, they have no equity since, even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I believe that many individuals will experience this, especially given the impending mass layoffs and rapidly rising living expenses.

I advise you to invest in stocks to balance out your real estate, Even the worst recessions offer wonderful buying opportunities in the markets if you're cautious. If you took away all of the environmental protections, the sky in LA would turn a soupy brown color and it would be hazardous to breathe outside. These are facts. We used to live in a world with no EPA. You can check the videos on TH-cam if you want on how bad the air pollution in LA used to be vs. how it is now. Life is give and take. @@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 My comment was very short and not complicated. Maybe you should read it again. I said if I had stayed a few more months, then crime would have been one of the reasons for my leaving.
My property taxes were not that high: less than $2000 a year.
I had a fence around my house and uninvited people rarely came thru my gate.
Men often took a leak on the sidewalks outside my house. When I finally bought a car, I was going to have it professionally cleaned and detailed, but I didn't bother because I would catch men peeing on it. On a rare occasion people defecated outside my house. Usually the feces outside my gate was from animals.
People left garbage outside my house all the time, that I had to clean up or risk getting fined by the city.
In 9 years there was not so much as an attempted break-in into my home. The drug dealers hanging out outside my gate all day and night kept an eye on my property, so no one dared try anything like that.
As I said, I moved out of there, got out of California entirely, and haven't been back since. Homeless people had nothing to do with my wanting to leave, and they'd have nothing to do with it now. I had much more important reasons for getting out of there as fast as I could.

I’m moving out of California next spring after living here for over 50 years. Why? It’s not really for financial reasons. I can afford to live here even with the high cost of living. So why am I leaving? It’s over politics. What? Why are taxes so high here? Why is gas so high here? Why is crime so high here? Why is inflation so high here! It’s because of political mismanagement of this state. We’ve been spending $8 billion per year or $42,000 per homeless person per year and the problem is getting worse, not better. Businesses are closing down due to rampant crime. With increased crime, the governor is actually closing prisons. The state is giving away free medical and dental to illegal immigrants. We have the highest gas taxes, sales taxes, and income taxes in the entire country. Even with that the state has anywhere from a $30 billion to $70 billion dollar deficit for the coming fiscal year. What does the governor want to cut? You guessed it, FIRST RESPONDERS. What’s the end game for the state? They probably want to drive out most of the people so the ultra wealthy can take over the coastline for cheap.

Red states are better because of their stance on political issues. If you didn’t like your state enough to stay, then don’t bring your political beliefs to a red state where life is better. As far as crime, lets look at murder (the worst of crimes) per capita. Statistics have California about in the middle, then look at the states in the top positions. It's filled with a bunch of red states. Anyway, you're concentrating on the cost of rent. Rent is up everywhere, but obviously more in California because you started at a higher price in the first place. I have no intentions in moving. For people living here for decades (like me) it's dirt cheap. My home is paid in full and property taxes are Prop. 13 regulated. For expenses and taxes, it's about $500 a month for me, and often less. Some pundits keep talking about the $20 minimum wage. It didn't cause the world to come to an end. In-N-Out raised their prices about 5 or 10 cents. If that is killing you financially, eating less burgers is healthier. My employment is in the L.A. area and only a 2 1/2 mile commute. No traffic issues. Pay is good too. If you want to move, it's personal decision, but when I see news reports cherry-picking statistics, I look the other way.
