Bertolt originally tried to transform immediately after getting out of the barrel, but stopped when he saw a knocked-down Reiner. This is because his transformation could kill the unprotected Reiner. Bertolt knew that the Survey Corps would use this disadvantage to push him, so he asks Reiner to lie back. So Bertolt can be transformed without caring about the Reiner. Bertolt does not stop here, but approaches the Survey Corps. They don't know that Reiner is lying back, so while Bertolt is talking to Armin, they move to kill Reiner. But this was also Bertolt's plan to bring the soldiers together, and he transformed on top of the soldiers gathered in one place as planned. This shows how strong Bertolt can be if he has no doubts about his behavior.(And we already know that he was third out of 104th trainees) And it makes me emotional that Bertolt, who was so weak-minded, acknowledged the cruel world and changed like that.
Why didn't he just transform when Mikasa cuts his ear? That way he could have killed the whole squad. He already knew Reiner was laying on his back, right? Then why, I'm confused.
@@kevanvarma8698 *Spoilers for this episode and the next one* Because that would of resulted in the opposite situation to what we see in the show play out. Nah Bert's first glimpse of his actual explosion ability was when he fell down in s2 to help Reiner. Almost all of the scouts got blown away. Hange was seriously injured and even Mikasa was knocked out. And that was just a controlled, half formed titan.
Yeah, the scouts simply did the calculations in their head and understood that it could have been even worse. In the last blast he was merely a torso that had already been expending all his body mass on steam, and lazily threw himself to the ground. With full force and full lower half, it's just a wrap. The colossal is a thicc boy.
Also something some people usually forget- the next person behind Mikasa and Reiner for their class was Bert. He's the most capable fighter in their group besides Reiner and Mikasa.

The force of the blast was controlled by the wall when Eren and the 104th was standing on top of it. Remember the wall is reinforced titan crystal. It doesnt break. Thats why they had to destroy the gates and not the wall. When Bertolt transformed in that open area, it was a full force kaboom.
dude, I couldn't believe you guys didn't include the whole Bertolt speech before his transformation in this reaction, that is a really good speech imo. The line is something like "I can see everything clearly and I can accept whatever outcome".. together with the music is just perfect.
I must have watched this arc over 12 times this year (including both solo views and through youtube reactions) lol, it just never gets old. Also, their sympathy for the warriors vanished in a single sequence lmao
Something that I realized was that the cadet Corp rankings went Mikasa, Bertolt, Reiner, Annie, then Eren as the top five. Bertolt would have ranked first if not for Mikasa. Thou Annie would have ranked higher had she been a team player.
Yeah...people tend to overlook how good Bertholdt really is because he was so quiet and timid. But he was described as being the best at the ODM gear, which earned him the #3 spot. Meanwhile Reiner stood out because he was big and athletic, while Mikasa was the most well rounded.
@@robertmcgath9135 Yup. Most of Bertholdt's weaknesses stemmed from his own hesitancy and quiet nature, and that translates to how you perform as a soldier. But now that he was focused and had resolve, he became a dangerous adversary even to Mikasa...let alone the fact that he's the Colossal Titan.
@@jasonamigo023 yeah assuming he is on par with Reiner with his titan abilities, then not even cutting off his head could kill him. The fact he can heal gives him an insane advantage.
When Bertholdt fell off the wall on Reiner and Eren he created an explosion as big as the wall. And that’s just half of his body. So that’s why the scouts knew. Also Bertholdt transformed mid air so part of the explosion could be his Titan hitting the ground.
I love Bertolt, he was shy and always wanted to please everyone, Reiner, Annie, the survey corps, just staying low key, and then suddenly he is running everything in this episode. This just shows how truly strong Bertolt is, it's like his titan, it's the most powerful by far, yet one has to be careful to use it. I myself relate to Bertolt, I'm reserved and reclusive, but when I set to something, I'm a force to be reckoned with and have to use that carefully.
I mean, in his first explosion he basically created an earthquake on the whole city, it even shows eren, mikasa and armin being pushed up and everything shaking
Loved the reaction, as always. I continue to appreciate how you pay attention to the details and how honest you are with your thoughts and feelings; like the anger you felt seeing this episode. It really makes me so excited for your next reactions. The next 3 episodes are just peak fiction; truly masterpieces. On a side note, Reiner is one of the most complex characters. There are so many layers to him. I also can't wait for what you will discuss about him in the future videos!
It IS a slight ret-con for Berty's transformation to be that big, but the justification for the ret-con is that every other time, he was transforming behind indestructible walls. His first transformation rocked the Earth and shook everyone off their feet, but the second was MEANT to be ironically, hilariously sudden. And the third transformation was right in front of everyone else.... I think the overall assumption you can make so that this doesn't feel purposefully inconsistent is that just like Annie can choose when to harden, and Reiner can choose where his mind is in his body, Berty can choose how big of an explosion to make... It's all hax shit that Isayama does. Technically, speaking, all the Titan shifters have an ability that they can control its intensity and usage. ... Except one, that I can think of.
The armored titan is actually immuned to the colossal titan's explosions. Remember also that they transformed side by side back in s2. That's why they are a good pair. Bertholdt told reiner to lie down so that he can heal and that he won't be affected with the explosion.
@@crossmodulation9730 in the flashback to what happened in season 2, they say that the colossal titan disappeared immediately on impact, this is an example of Bertholdt’s precision and control of the colossal titan. We barely see them fight together but they make a great team.
@@crossmodulation9730 I have no idea, I actually always assumed Bertholdt hit both of them and knocked Eren out until I caught that info in the next episode, which stuck in my head because there were no remains of the colossal. But Reiner does say that he was the one who got careless when he bit Eren out of his titan, explaining his cut limbs when he woke up.
@@MarikitKaNa He did hit both of them, because he fell on top of them. And since they ran away with Reiner, that means only Eren was knocked out by the explosion.
Back in the character introductions remember that Shadis said Bertholdt had "heapsnof natural talent, but too mild mannered to use them". Well, we got to see a glimpse of that talent. It takes a lot to stand against Mikasa and live to tell about it. My cat's name is Bertholdt and he is the most gentle angel of a cat that ever existed. 💕
[no spoilers] When Bertholt's body falls off the wall in S2 and lands on Eren and Reiner, it was a mini-nuke. I think at the very start of the next episode, you see a giant explosion. The first 2 times I watched S2E6, I was in so much shock that I totally didn't notice the nuke scene afterwards.
25:46 Reiner actually got the upper part of his head blown up (only his jaw remained) it was way more explicit in the manga.. and yet he survived, so yes, a titan shifter can survive a beheading if he does what Reiner did.. or if (spoilers): .. .. .. .. .. he has the founding titan
For the head being blasted off and surviving, there is a reason it takes two cuts to kill a titan. We know titans, even the mindless ones, are humans so one cut would be like cutting off the head or lower torso, which isn't enough, you need to do two cuts and cut out a section of flesh, likely a section of spine, of the human inside to actually kill them.
Just so if u guys missed it when riener,Berthold and the beast titan were sitting and talking the other titan came and said war chief zeke to call out for the beast titan soo his name is zeke if u guys missed it
Bertholdt's monologue before his transformation is the very essence of this show, one of the best character development moments in anime history and my favorite scene in all of SNK (manga included) and you guys decided to cut it off from the final edit. Thanks a lot...
Well Bertholt has never flew up high to transform and fall to the ground. They saw what happened when only part of his skeleton fell down from the wall in the fight against Reiner is season 2. This was Bertholt flying WAAAY up and FULLY transforming.
Woah its like opposite day. Austin is wearing the headband this video and Shane is wearing the hat!! 😂😂 EDIT: I noticed it was only for the intro but still 🤷🏻
About 13 minutes in, when you see that Bertholdt was hiding in the barrel the whole time... this was foreshadowed back in Episode 1 of the anime back in 2013 in Eren's dream sleeping under the tree, 3 years before this chapter of the manga was released.
Batman asks Superman "do you bleed? you will bleed!" And I ask you "do you cry? Go cry! Cry, scream, and laugh nervously hahaha This is without a doubt the best season of the best series ever
My hypothesis is that Bertolt can control the heat expansion of his titan as he transforms, from a "slow" transformation like when Reiner captured Eren, to what we just witnessed. Not full-proof because his titan appeared immediately during s1 ep5, so this might just be a retcon.
Explaination: The last time Berthold trnsformed, it was his hlf body and stuck on the wall.. This time e trnsformed his full body and in the air like a real nuke works
They're (warriors) concerns are much bigger than Marco, so they have no choice but to take him down, you can see it in their expression, they don't want to do this it's just this world is cruel, you will understand their mission soon, and I will be there to witness your change of heart for the warriors.
10:08 if y'all wondering if why Reiner said that, he developed split personalities. So it's either he's a soldier or a "warrior" which they refered by themselves. : )
21:30 good point, he suddenly causes a huge explostion with his transformation, and the characters kinda knew he could do that, but WE didn't.. cause the colossal titan always just materialized out of nowhere after a lightning strike, but never caused such a blast
34:40 Thats why Bertholt didnt transform at the beginning. He went to Reiner to check on him and he told him to lay on his back. That way Reiner wouldnt get injured or blown away when Bertholt transforms. We can see that Hange squad tried to capture Reiner but all of a sudden he was laying on his back where he was protected so they couldnt reach him. Thats the reason Bertholt now could transform without injuring/killing Reiner because he was laying on the back and was well protected. Hange squad also knew that Bertholt wouldnt transform near Reiner and thats why they went after Reiner in first place. They wanted to finish him off but as soon as they saw him laying on his back Hange squad new they fucked up and that Bertholt is probabaly going to transform and he did :/

The next three episodes are the peak fiction story and animation
I love watching your reactions because you are going through the same emotion i felt watching AOT.
dude, I couldn't believe you guys didn't include the whole Bertolt speech before his transformation in this reaction, that is a really good speech imo.
My mistake reiner was second Bertolt was third still it show how well trained they were.
Yeah...people tend to overlook how good Bertholdt really is because he was so quiet and timid. But he was described as being the best at the ODM gear, which earned him the #3 spot. Meanwhile Reiner stood out because he was big and athletic, while Mikasa was the most well rounded.
@@jasonamigo023 that is why it made sense that when Bertolt was serious, he could somewhat keep up with Mikasa.
"I think reiner might be dead... I hope he's dead"
s4 Reiner: Same
When Bertholdt fell off the wall on Reiner and Eren he created an explosion as big as the wall. And that’s just half of his body. So that’s why the scouts knew. Also Bertholdt transformed mid air so part of the explosion could be his Titan hitting the ground.
You know Reiner is a good armoured Titan when he gets the thickest plot armour-
I love Bertolt, he was shy and always wanted to please everyone, Reiner, Annie, the survey corps, just staying low key, and then suddenly he is running everything in this episode.
Best episode for berthold
he evolved dreadfully
The armored titan is actually immuned to the colossal titan's explosions. Remember also that they transformed side by side back in s2. That's why they are a good pair. Bertholdt told reiner to lie down so that he can heal and that he won't be affected with the explosion.
And Bertoldt actually fell on Reiner in season 2.
@@crossmodulation9730 in the flashback to what happened in season 2, they say that the colossal titan disappeared immediately on impact, this is an example of Bertholdt’s precision and control of the colossal titan. We barely see them fight together but they make a great team.
@@MarikitKaNa How did the explosion manage to knock out Eren, but not Reiner, who was on top of him and was about to get his nape popped?
@@crossmodulation9730 I have no idea, I actually always assumed Bertholdt hit both of them and knocked Eren out until I caught that info in the next episode, which stuck in my head because there were no remains of the colossal. But Reiner does say that he was the one who got careless when he bit Eren out of his titan, explaining his cut limbs when he woke up.
@@MarikitKaNa He did hit both of them, because he fell on top of them. And since they ran away with Reiner, that means only Eren was knocked out by the explosion.
And they can controll how big they want the explosion to be Annie released her full explosion against Eren the last battle.
You guys need to watch the next 3 episodes in a row it basically a trilogy
25:46 Reiner actually got the upper part of his head blown up (only his jaw remained) it was way more explicit in the manga.. and yet he survived, so yes, a titan shifter can survive a beheading if he does what Reiner did.. or if (spoilers):
..
..
..
..
..
he has the founding titan
I think that moving your entire nervous system is an armored's titan ability exclusive
Shoutout to this 2brother I'm always happy to see u guys react this best anime series....shingeki no kyojin....
Just so if u guys missed it when riener,Berthold and the beast titan were sitting and talking the other titan came and said war chief zeke to call out for the beast titan soo his name is zeke if u guys missed it
Bertholdt was capable of fighting with Mikasa remember in season 1 he was in the top 3 of the class
At its core, an explosion is the rapid expansion of something. What does Berthole do when he changes? He expands. Rapidly. Boom.
i like their expression throughout the whole episode
"why i am doing this to me"
Woah its like opposite day. Austin is wearing the headband this video and Shane is wearing the hat!! 😂😂
EDIT: I noticed it was only for the intro but still 🤷🏻
After this, all the episodes will blow your mind
The amount of anxiety I’m in waiting for the next three reacts 😂
Reiner didn't really mean for Marco to get killed as dumb as it sounds he really didn't mean for it to happen 😮💨

Everyone: ☹
About 13 minutes in, when you see that Bertholdt was hiding in the barrel the whole time... this was foreshadowed back in Episode 1 of the anime back in 2013 in Eren's dream sleeping under the tree, 3 years before this chapter of the manga was released.
Your face expression after the Marco flashback. I feel you. I was so infuriated when i saw it too.
Berthold underrated character
They really need hugs to get through the next few episodes
Batman asks Superman "do you bleed? you will bleed!"
And I ask you "do you cry? Go cry!
Cry, scream, and laugh nervously hahaha
This is without a doubt the best season of the best series ever
My hypothesis is that Bertolt can control the heat expansion of his titan as he transforms, from a "slow" transformation like when Reiner captured Eren, to what we just witnessed. Not full-proof because his titan appeared immediately during s1 ep5, so this might just be a retcon.
Explaination:
The last time Berthold trnsformed, it was his hlf body and stuck on the wall.. This time e trnsformed his full body and in the air like a real nuke works
They're (warriors) concerns are much bigger than Marco, so they have no choice but to take him down, you can see it in their expression, they don't want to do this it's just this world is cruel, you will understand their mission soon, and I will be there to witness your change of heart for the warriors.
the next 3 ep is a master peace
10:08 if y'all wondering if why Reiner said that, he developed split personalities. So it's either he's a soldier or a "warrior" which they refered by themselves. : )
Next episode is perfect game. And then the trilogy of pain starts.
I cant get enough of how people get so much disgusted and creeped out of the cart titan. Including me 😂.
I call this episode "the calm before the storm"
Dude, they are so not ready for the next 3 episodes.
Can't wait to see them react to it
Next three are going to be HYPE
21:30 good point, he suddenly causes a huge explostion with his transformation, and the characters kinda knew he could do that, but WE didn't.. cause the colossal titan always just materialized out of nowhere after a lightning strike, but never caused such a blast
I forgot the scouts experienced Bertolt's first explosion when he fell down to help Reiner in season 2
s4 part 2 is gonna be liiiiitttttt
you guys are fuckin goated
just so chill
can't wait to see their reaction to the episodes for the rest of the season😇
20:32 Yeah F**k that headband !! 🤘
32:03 the pause made me laugh 🤣
They wanted to finish him off but as soon as they saw him laying on his back Hange squad new they fucked up and that Bertholt is probabaly going to transform and he did :/
you boys have reached the two best episodes in the entire series
Nah I think 17 and 18 are the best ones.
@@TokyoKazama 16 and 17 are the two best. Although that’ll change once s4 part 2 comes
Ah yes, the episode where all the hype and nervousness from the last three episodes turns into nothing but pain and desperation :)
When they started listing dead squad 😂
can't wait for episode 17
On the wolverine question, there was one time he regenerated from a single drop of blood.
"Where is HANGE" 😭
