I think TH-cam should give you the chance to edit out what they don’t like on the video. I’ve received info and time stamps on why some of my own videos have been age restricted which was stuff like my thumbnail or excessive cursing. But they kept them age restricted and didn’t give me a chance to clip it out or change thumbnail. When you get flagged for copyright music you get a chance to edit it out or mute it.
This video echoes my own experiences the past 3-4 months. Lots of videos getting limited or age restricted completely. It's made me far more cautious about which games I can cover safely on the platform and the kind of content I can produce. It's demotivating that's for sure. Hopefully we can get some better transparency from TH-cam and perhaps they can take a second look at how they handle content - especially fictional stuff like videogames. Favoritism is really prominent on this platform. I’ve had multiple creators have their videos re-monetized after using the TH-cam editor the remove “guideline breaking” parts of the video. But when I did it, TH-cam support told me i wasn’t allowed to do that and fully demonetized my videos.
Isn't that the point of the TH-cam Studio/ Editor? To make it easy to cut out things that A. You, the creator isn't happy with or B. TH-cam isn't happy with. It was definetely one of those nitpicky admins that are full of themselves and think they're the messiah. Just like Discord and Reddit.
I've had a problem like yours when I tried to upload a stupid brexit meme I made with the gumball challenge meme and my video got flagged instantly even though I saw bigger channels uploading it with no problems. I did try to appeal saying that other channels had uploaded without any issues but youtube did the obvious thing and rejected it.

The thing that got me about Mark's "try not to laugh" strike... they struck the wrong video. They didn't check which video had the "offensive" clip; they removed the video mentioned by both TH-camrs, when it was the next video in the series that had the clip in it. It was a total knee-jerk reaction to the complaint raised; they didn't even check if it was the right video that they were taking down.
It's actually a bit weirder. Here is what happens at TH-cam and why they won't tell you anything: - Each Creator is actually assigned a hidden "grade" which specifies how safe for ads they are. - There is a global algo list of words that trigger immediate flags. Certain words and slang used will have higher chances of triggering the flag. I've tested this extensively as I just do tech content, but I was intrigued by it when I had a video get flagged as my content is about as safe as you can get. So why doesn't TH-cam tell everyone this? - The words that trigger the immediate flag could come off as discrimination of many minority groups and is how the entire algo is built to protect the younger audience. - If everyone knew their "grade" then it could be argued in court that TH-cam willfully sensors content and can control the content on their platform. This has massive legal ramifications that could hold Alphabet "Google" liable for the content hosted here. This is why we are left in the dark and why they can't tell us much.

The fact that they removed the age restriction once they were shown Mark's video just shows that it was never about the video's content in the first place. I love Cory too, he deserves better.
I'd actually like to understand if there are ANY possible technical difficulties that would make it a harder process for a company as big as TH-cam to deal with.
Plus, like Charlie said, Cory is as user friendly as it gets. He doesnt say any curse words, he censors himself, so logically his videos would do better with ad revenue and more viewers. Yet himself and his videos are suffering more than bigger youtubers that consistantly curse.
I honestly think this is a combination of there being too much stuff to manually check all the time in general, leading to mediocre auto-management with very non-transparent systems that nobody understands (including YT themselves seemingly lmao). Then in the case of Cory specifically, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a group of people going out of their way to flag his content and mass report his vids because A) They just don't like him personally (which is ridiculous because he's a good dude). B) They are racist (even more ridiculous in this day and age, but sadly still common). Or C) A combination of those things. Whether or not it's just random users going after him or there really are some people within the company itself targeting him (doubtful since so many other creators including non-POC creators having stuff de-monitized/striked for seemingly no reason), this is a bad look for the platform and company as a whole and this whole situation only serves to ruin YT and content creation for the creators, viewers, advertisers, and ultimately YT themselves.

Yes, they SHOULD be able to know what they're being flagged for. But I don't think a company this big is ever going to be transparent in what they do unfortunately. It sounds like they have the bare minimum of rep interfacing with the creators, as if the reps have very little allowance in what they can say. It must be really frustrating to be in that position, and I can imagine a LOT of reps constantly voicing in meetings that they need to communicate more with creators, but to those higher up making the decisions on what is allowed, I doubt they're listening to the reps at all.

The fact that Cory had to avoid saying self harm and suicide because he was scared the video would get taken down while Jack says it so nonchalantly cause he doesn’t have to worry about it. I’m not saying anything negative on either of them, it’s just funny where you see the blatant differences in how they approach their videos and how they’ve learned to be because of TH-cam’s treatment of them.
So far, all the mortuary assistant footage I did has NOT been age restricted or anything. But in the past week, I've been noticing uncharacteristically higher numbers of lost subscribers. Posted about it on twitter and huge numbers of people have been messaging me saying they were unsubbed my not only mine, but similar content creators they watch regularly. I will oftentimes like videos and sub to content creators as a means of support --- basically saying "I like what you do, keep up the great work". It's completely uncool (unacceptable, even) for TH-cam to control my account and unlike/unsub without my knowledge. That should not be allowed to happen.

If anything, you guys struggle more and more about how to adequitely react with every new milestone you guys hit. You keep your humanity, and I love you for that.
There's one thing I don't know if I missed or if it's just being overlooked. It's nice to say you don't want special treatment. The thing is if they treated everyone equal on upload it would take even longer for the review process. If they checked and reviewed everything the same then they would take more time to get to a lot of the smaller TH-camrs, if nothing else than from the larger amount of videos that would need review. Not to mention it would lose more money for everyone uploading videos, big and small. Even if they treated everything equal on upload I'm pretty darn sure the review process would still skew to bigger TH-camrs favor because they would be losing more revenue, both the individual and the company. It instinctually might not seem fair but there are explanations that aren't as...disheartening as the face of the situation presents.
I have this problem a lot too, gets annoying real fast because I just came back from a huge break, and now my new content is fine for a while, then gets flagged (WITHOUT A NOTIFICATION, so I literally have to check every single day) and the views just drop, which is really dangerous as I haven't been making content for months TH-cam needs to fix this, like actually :/

TH-cam has changed, they call it an "improvement" but everyone who prefers the OG TH-cam calls it, "a way of erasing the people that made it to what it was now."

This is an abusive relationship plain and simple, and someone needs to hold TH-cam accountable for using bots to enforce their vague rules and making knee jerk reactions whenever people call them on their bullshit. Unfortunately that would probably take ACTUAL legal action and that takes money and not a whole lot of creators on TH-cam don't have that kind of cash.

TH-cam has a monopoly on online videos. Until there's serious competition, they have no incentive to do better. They could come out and publicly say they hate their creators and think we're all peasants, and out options would be to keep watching their content or not have any online videos.

Yeah, had this too when I took a break during the holidays. Would be great if there was a vacation mode, where you can temporarily disable your account for the algorithm (ideally people could still watch your videos) and setup a custom message for your audience.

I just feel bad for creators in general; that it’s gotten to the point where you feel as though you _have_ to suggest a Vacation Mode. The first time Seán took an extended break in 2017- which wasn’t really a break, since he was testing his HDWGH Tour as well as doing Ready Player 3 with Arin and Danny- there were a few people whining about it. But I remember the majority of comments on that particular Vlog being loving and supportive. You’d think TH-cam’s Algorithm would be able to detect all the positive messages and actually see that viewers not only support breaks… _We ENCOURAGE them!!_

My theory is that you got age restricted later because you get more views, youtube pushes more ads in that short time in the millions, which is quick cash gained there, but Evelyn's channel is smaller, so lesser userbase, so less money made, so hit faster.

It's what a corporation says when they don't want to spend money figuring out a way to make something work *properly*. "Oh, we can't have this. Listening to Sean talk about how Evelynn gets flagged right away, and not his own I had this thought. They're letting the bigger creators go longer without restrictions and such because they're pulling more revenue and views for the site. And they will probably let it go altogether if no one says anything because money. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have this thought or come to this conclusion, youtube needs to be more fair regardless of views, because it hurts the site as a whole, smaller channels will struggle more because the aren't pulling the same numbers, and larger channel's validation of hard work gets dismissed because they are, not to mention in a world with so much division already do we really need it here as well, by showing bias for certain creators?

Yeah i have been doing this for 8 years and I think a lot of things I see from smaller creators too and maybe something's for me has been maybe not really maybe have gotten push more out there or something else and it's been hard for me to do anything it use to be way different and a bit better back in 2016 and 17 I think

I’m glad big creators are talking about this! I talked about this in my newest video, as I’ve been denied my play button for a community strike I’ve had for OVER 3 years (for reacting to a video still up and monetized on other TH-cam channels, might I add). The double standards and constant pressure to make viral content or have your performance suffer has really affected my motivation to make content
When it's easier and more convenient to try to stay out of situations like these so you don't get involved and potentially risking putting yourself in the ''bad books'' of TH-cam by speaking up, thank you Sean for speaking up on this especially for Cory and lots of other smaller youtubers. Knowing that TH-cam has the power and many creators especially smaller ones and those whom depend on youtube for a living, they feel at the mercy of youtube and of course would avoid risking their channel and livelihood by speaking up against this. youtube: Genuine Racism, ignoring, abusing small creators, allows for 90rn, takes down videos of people trying to help the victims of rape, assault, pizzaphiles, and degrading bots that spam comment replies; almost nothing done also youtube: removes Dislikes (after saying they aren't), disables comments on their own shorts videos (i wonder why lmao), says they listen to feedback (does the same thing again the next year), supports black history month (bans a black creator the first fucking day because he made a joke about it), and has a pride month logo (accept for in any middle eastern country)

Listening to what you were saying specially around 20:00 relates too much to myself. I have been on yt for 9 years and I know what my consistency is. From a few months ago it's been the worst. I have had several breakdowns, burnt out more than I could count, there were days that I simply froze and couldn't do any kind of videos and I second guess everything now, because TH-cam today is that. If it's not a spectacle with huge amount of money given, or 10k to a random who subscribes, or stuff full of hatred, it just doesn't pick it up. No matter what TH-cam is talking right now, that "you should switch algorithm for audience and blá-blá-blá", it's not what is going on. My channel has 2.3 million subs and I am struggling to do 10.000 views on a video. The videos have been getting 70000-80000 Impressions unless it's some new update on a big game and I have also the search helping driving views. My channel dropped 75% reach and I constantly see people commenting that they thought I had stopped uploading because they never saw my channel anymore. I HATE this tiktokzation of TH-cam, and how the creators are treated like we don't matter. And the truth is, we don't matter. I feel that once we could build a community, but now more and more we are just the annoying person with a facecam preventing people from seeing the game they want to see. And if I stop today, it doesn't matter as well. My first baby was born and I took two days off to be in the hospital with my wife and I feel I'm paying for that up to today. It went straight downhill out of nowhere. I fear that my channel will just die and I will lose my full time job without even knowing what am I doing wrong.

This is definitely scary because these companies either don't realize that it's something that can affect people's behaviors and day-to-day lives (or they do, but are too high up on the status level to care, and all they do care about is making more money off of people in the current system). There's an increased amount of people willing to self-harm and/or harm others for the sake of views/likes on social media in general because it's their jobs on the line (such as when people take selfies in front of wildlife and end up putting the wildlife they're with in danger due to the lack of fear of humans).
Stop depending on youtube for your income. If all you cowards would just purposely do videos that get no ads then the advertisers wouldn't get their ads up, therfore they have to bow to the youtube creators "rules". You guys all took the knee instead....your so called "community" is weak and useless. None of you have done literally anything to fight back in any way, shape, or form
It feels the same on other social medias too. I'll do my utmost to try and make my timeline good, and work with this mystical fucking algorithm that probably knows my dick size more than I do, I'll have hundreds of accounts and words muted, but even after all that my timeline is just... slosh. Dumbass celebrity spew, bigotry, people also voicing their concerns, for twitter it's the Hydra that is topics - you block one topic, three more take its fucking place and clutter your TL. Then I check in on some artist I follow, they upload daily, I have them added to a bunch of lists, I like and retweet their content whenever possible. Their content just... never, ever appears no matter what I do. It doesn't even feel like these algorithms are working for what's popular, or what's creating outrage, they're just outright broken.
The only consistent behavior at TH-cam is that whenever they fuck up, it only gets corrected when a big creator points it out, and the fuck up is always an "error". They constantly apply their rules inconsistently, then treat any call-out of that unjust application like it's a one-time mistake, with no indication that they have any plans to fix the underlying problem
They definitely don’t have plans they’re a monopoly grown lazy. Why would they fix anything when there’s literally nowhere else to go. It’s surprising that youtube hasn’t been split by anti trust laws. The only other competitor in the same content type is Vimeo i geuss, and they’ve just been slowly dying.

although I agree with many points raised in corys video i think we need to keep things in some perspective. for this im going to borrow what Andrei Terbea said about the youtube algorithm when talking about leafy: "youtube's decision making is highly dependent on two external factors with one hand they're trying to keep advertisers happy without which the platform could not possibly sustain itself and with the other youtube tries to avoid regulation from lawmakers who will not rest until they put constraints on these huge social platforms they don't even fully understand. away from all the big people in suits trying to co-exist in some fragile harmony there's us the creators (that being you and me) between 30 to 50 million people who are uploading content totheir channels but as we've seen multiple times it's enough for just one creator (whether that might be pewdiepie or jake/logan Paul) to cross a line for this harmony to completely crumble whether that means advertisers getting upset and everybody's income getting cut in half or regulators seizing their chance to put youtube in a corner with stuff like article 13 or coppa and again all of us have to suffer as a result"

It is getting worse. I read on the yt reddit that the Trusted flaggers, the people that battled the bots and flagged suspicious stuff (child pedo stuff) , got their influence and the amount of stuff they could do reduced to a miniscule amount. Hence reporting the bot comments and channels for normal users and TF don’t do anything. TF people don’t matter anymore in Yt eyes. It will keep getting worse and worse
Good to hear big creators highlight these issues. There's a real problem with transparency on this platform, and there's nothing more disheartening than getting taken out of that fun and creative mood due factors out of your control. Nothing worse than TH-camrs losing their passion because of TH-cam itself.

Not just as Creator, but also as viewer, you notice just how much creators have changed, and how the feeling and atmosphere in videos or TH-cam itself has changed. Sure a lot of changes are essential and you have to go with the time, like younger audience, variety of content or whatever, but by now TH-cam feels just so much more boring in itself. Being around TH-cam since it started growing, I never "cared less" about this platform than now, just because you can feel this stiffness and errors all around.
I used to be on youtube any second I had free. Now I barely look at it for more than an hour a day, and it's mostly to rewatch older content. It's really depressing looking at all my favorite creators just losing their identities because of all the pointless restrictions forced upon them.
@@erikasakura7721 a great example of this is the gamegrumps(I still love their content) but since they've been around so long you can see the changes through them. from the no swearing in the first third of the video to no swearing at all in their videos. They new thumbnails have to have faces so you can see their thumbnails use their icons and become less clear on what they are about. same with their titles

I've been trying to keep to an upload schedule of once every three days, but I missed a day once due to a recording error and had to upload the video a day late. This one little slipup cost me nearly 25% of my average viewers, on that video and videos following it, because the videos just weren't being given the same number of impressions. It was shocking and disheartening, the pressure of constantly staying on time and present on the platform can be pretty intense. Also, the notion of feeling like you have to start your video with the title and thumbnail and work backwards from there in order for it to be successful is something I very much sympathize with. You have to be sensational, you have to give just enough information that it's not misleading but withhold enough to keep viewers curious, and it has to feel genuine and effortless or it's clickbait. It makes it difficult sometimes to make videos that aren't necessarily covering the most immediately exciting material without feeling like you're wasting your time or having to play things up for the camera. There are plenty of videos I've wanted to make about obscure little things that I don't know how to package in a way where the videos will be successful and well received, and making unsuccessful videos hurts your numbers, making it harder for future videos to be given traction.
I love your videos, I'm sorry the platform is like that because you may upload in an area of niche, but it's top tier content in that space! Just know you still have fans of your work regardless of how the TH-cam algorithm operates 🖤

There is only 1 way. A mass boycott of the majority of the creator community. It will only make a small 2% dent in their profits, but the defamation will not be good for their PR and a lot of sponsors/brands will pull away. They'll have to take action if not for their Profit, then for their Reputation
There is one way, but nobody considers it viable, because _technically_ it isn't. On its own, it's inefficient, non-viable, very much something that people will get arrested for. Done alongside a much bigger movement to end a lot of bad practices on the other hand? That's doable, and we'll see success. However the problem arises that not a lot of people sympathize with each other in the same way anymore. What I mean by that, is that turning a profit tends to take priority over the moral choice, and due to hundreds of years of systems that have indoctrinated people into thinking this way of living is viable, no-one really thinks of doing anything any more, as if it just isn't possible, or that it's wrong to try fighting for what's actually right. My head hurts. Part of me's baffled we actually allowed this to happen, the other part understanding people are too easily manipulated by media, corporate and government control conspiracies. Even worse is, people that try explaining or exposing this often get pitted into the same hole as the real fringe and odd conspiracy theorists, which is only going to lead to further downfall. TH-cam definitely just needs to be WAY more transparent. Because when it gets to the point of flagging someone's video, and not telling them why, that's when it becomes unacceptable.
I think one of the biggest issues that contributes to a lot of these inconsistencies is simply that TH-cam isn't for adults anymore, they've made themselves a platform that is made for KIDS. They want those clickbait titles and intense energy because kids fall for it and click it. If it doesn't attract children... TH-cam doesn't want it to be seen. And so, adult viewers and more casual mature uploaders don't get given a voice. Us adult viewers are struggling to find content made for us anymore because of youtubers being forced to attract kids instead. Its sad and honestly just confusing. Grow with the audience, those who have been here for years aren't little anymore and we want to see our favourite channels grow up too, but TH-cam is trying to trap them in an immortally young bubble.

actually hiring more people to go over stuff manually to verify flags and reports etc. instead of leaving as much as possible to automation would help a lot in that regard... but, "oh no! our bottom line!" will likely ensure that never happens...

As a channel way smaller than Corys and yours, we go through the same problem, so much so that our views have been affected. We have a lot of Age Restrictions and unmonetized videos while others put up the same ones. It sucks =(

Pretty much screams this: TH-cam does not know what it's doing at all when it comes to ethics. Basically it's being lead by money and algorithms and not some kind of thought-out code. Historically speaking, given that it is relatively new, and new tech tends to go through a 'okay this is unethical/getting people killed, time to reel it in to not suck so badly' period. This whole "guilty until proven innocent" thing that TH-cam has going on is really annoying. I uploaded a simple tutorial video and almost instantly they threatened to give me a community guidelines STRIKE. All I did was link to my Reddit account, which I marked as 18+ and TH-cam INSTANTLY flagged the video as containing "nudity or sexual imagery" I chatted up support about the whole ordeal (they were lovely, by the way) and they basically said "there's not much we can do except wait for them to e-mail you about the appeal" I checked my e-mail and they were just like "oh, our bad. It turns out there ISN'T full-frontal nudity in this Davinci Resolve tutorial" They took back the warning and backpedal'd on everything so my channel is fine, but it was still annoying. I was getting ready to stream THAT DAY and if you get hit with a strike you can't stream or upload anything.

I've never understood why TH-cam Kids isn't just its own, completely separate thing so that regular TH-cam is not held to the same rules when it comes to availability of ad revenue and threats towards content/channel takedowns. I'm an adult--the creators I watch are adults--we talk about and watch/play adult sh*t and curse--it's no secret... So, WHY are we dealing with a level of censorship that should be exclusively an issue for children? Why can't we just have this adult-friendly corner of the internet and the kids have theirs separate from ours? It's like how there are TV networks catered specifically to adults with shows like Family Guy while you have TV networks catered specifically to children with shows such as Bluey. We're not talking about "adult videos" here--we're talking about adult-targeted content. I don't feel like it should be such a hard concept for Google/TH-cam to grasp, and I don't feel like creators on the non-kid platform should have to deal with the "what if" scenarios where children, who either aren't having their internet activity monitored or aren't particularly sheltered from things they shouldn't be exposed to just yet, because that is not our responsibility/fault nor is it for TH-cam/Google. They literally already have TH-cam Kids, so just DRAW THE LINE BETWEEN THEM AS TWO SEPARATE ENTITIES. It shouldn't complicate the TH-cam platform for adults because there is a literal alternative version SPECIFICALLY FOR CHILDREN/ADOLESCENTS.
As I understand it the Made For Kids restrictions are less a specific design decision, and more TH-cam being forced to implement it because they got sued and the FTC decided TH-cam Kids and the age requirements on their main platform weren't sufficient proof that TH-cam wasn't collecting personal data from children. It's not so much "kids are watching this video so we have to restrict it" as "we're reasonably confident that kids _aren't_ watching this specific video, so we can process it like normal", all under threat of even greater fines than the $170 million they already paid.
I really agree with you. You got places like Amazon prime or Netflix doing the same thing. They have kid stuff and adult stuff. They would probably make more money if the have two separate browsers. I wanted to start a gaming channel this year but after how many creators are struggling and these are known creators struggling makes me wonder how worth it it is to dedicate into something that isn't currently stable. I lost 3 creators that are no longer posting because TH-cam is flagging their videos and not even explaining why. So not only is TH-cam discouraging creators we like their worrying new creators as well. like you said you've been doing this for 10 years you work hard everyday providing content that you can't be sure is going to be okay or not. its like having a job that keeps you on probation. its really disappointing to see TH-cam not really doing much to sort this issue out despite it being a big problem for a while. has it come to the stage that TH-cam is just no longer interested in their creators and just want money. TH-cam was really entertaining for the most part in previous years but even as a viewer I'm enough of ads every 5 minutes its like one of those stupid clickbait games now. On the topic of appeals, reviews, and website reps: Tiktok has the same verification/review process problem, if not worse. They purposefully leave their terms of service very vague so they can decide who gets taken down and who doesn't. I know it's a different platform from TH-cam, but it plays into the issue of manual vs automated reviews and other algorithm based flagging and appeals. As an artist who can spend weeks on a very short video, it's so heartbreaking when something just gets smacked down without a second thought. A lot of us have also been through the process of appeals and being ignored by the system. Love that you're speaking out on this.
It’s scary that so many people have this many questions about their “boss”. There is no job safety if they are not transparent with you…. Just like all companies that have employees
TH-cam is not a secure job by its nature and is by no metric what people would associate as a standard job. It’s an entertainment job with a lifespan that is very dependent on popularity which can be fickle, so I’m inclined to disagree with transparency aiding in job safety. Instead I would suggest that not having transparency on *how to do the job as well as a lack of *consistency between instruction and enforcement effectively presents itself like a manager sabotaging their own project while it’s being shipped. This is incredibly unstable (maybe that’s what you were getting at with safety) and causes a rift in trust between employee and employer, especially for smaller creators that literally are doing this for free and have no real ties to the platform.

The biggest issue is a lack of transparency with users. TH-cam needs an explanation of how this works for everyone, both in long legal jargon for the specifics, and in a TL;DR format for those that the jargon would be inaccessible to.

I’ve received info and time stamps on why some of my own videos have been age restricted which was stuff like my thumbnail or excessive cursing. But they kept them age restricted and didn’t give me a chance to clip it out or change thumbnail.
When you get flagged for copyright music you get a chance to edit it out or mute it.

This video echoes my own experiences the past 3-4 months. Lots of videos getting limited or age restricted completely. It's made me far more cautious about which games I can cover safely on the platform and the kind of content I can produce. It's demotivating that's for sure. Hopefully we can get some better transparency from TH-cam and perhaps they can take a second look at how they handle content - especially fictional stuff like videogames. Favoritism is really prominent on this platform. I’ve had multiple creators have their videos re-monetized after using the TH-cam editor the remove “guideline breaking” parts of the video. But when I did it, TH-cam support told me i wasn’t allowed to do that and fully demonetized my videos.

The thing that got me about Mark's "try not to laugh" strike... they struck the wrong video. They didn't check which video had the "offensive" clip; they removed the video mentioned by both TH-camrs, when it was the next video in the series that had the clip in it. It's actually a bit weirder. Here is what happens at TH-cam and why they won't tell you anything:
- Each Creator is actually assigned a hidden "grade" which specifies how safe for ads they are.
- There is a global algo list of words that trigger immediate flags. Certain words and slang used will have higher chances of triggering the flag.
I've tested this extensively as I just do tech content, but I was intrigued by it when I had a video get flagged as my content is about as safe as you can get.
So why doesn't TH-cam tell everyone this?
- The words that trigger the immediate flag could come off as discrimination of many minority groups and is how the entire algo is built to protect the younger audience.
- If everyone knew their "grade" then it could be argued in court that TH-cam willfully sensors content and can control the content on their platform. This has massive legal ramifications that could hold Alphabet "Google" liable for the content hosted here.
This is why we are left in the dark and why they can't tell us much.

I honestly think this is a combination of there being too much stuff to manually check all the time in general, leading to mediocre auto-management with very non-transparent systems that nobody understands (including YT themselves seemingly lmao). Then in the case of Cory specifically, I wouldn't be surprised if it's a group of people going out of their way to flag his content and mass report his vids because A) They just don't like him personally (which is ridiculous because he's a good dude). B) They are racist (even more ridiculous in this day and age, but sadly still common). Or C) A combination of those things.
Whether or not it's just random users going after him or there really are some people within the company itself targeting him (doubtful since so many other creators including non-POC creators having stuff de-monitized/striked for seemingly no reason), this is a bad look for the platform and company as a whole and this whole situation only serves to ruin YT and content creation for the creators, viewers, advertisers, and ultimately YT themselves.

Yes, they SHOULD be able to know what they're being flagged for. But I don't think a company this big is ever going to be transparent in what they do unfortunately. It sounds like they have the bare minimum of rep interfacing with the creators, as if the reps have very little allowance in what they can say. It must be really frustrating to be in that position, and I can imagine a LOT of reps constantly voicing in meetings that they need to communicate more with creators, but to those higher up making the decisions on what is allowed, I doubt they're listening to the reps at all.

There's one thing I don't know if I missed or if it's just being overlooked. It's nice to say you don't want special treatment. The thing is if they treated everyone equal on upload it would take even longer for the review process.
If they checked and reviewed everything the same then they would take more time to get to a lot of the smaller TH-camrs, if nothing else than from the larger amount of videos that would need review.
Not to mention it would lose more money for everyone uploading videos, big and small. Even if they treated everything equal on upload I'm pretty darn sure the review process would still skew to bigger TH-camrs favor because they would be losing more revenue, both the individual and the company.
It instinctually might not seem fair but there are explanations that aren't as...disheartening as the face of the situation presents.

My theory is that you got age restricted later because you get more views, youtube pushes more ads in that short time in the millions, which is quick cash gained there, but Evelyn's channel is smaller, so lesser userbase, so less money made, so hit faster.

They're letting the bigger creators go longer without restrictions and such because they're pulling more revenue and views for the site. And they will probably let it go altogether if no one says anything because money. I'm sure I'm not the only person to have this thought or come to this conclusion, youtube needs to be more fair regardless of views, because it hurts the site as a whole, smaller channels will struggle more because the aren't pulling the same numbers, and larger channel's validation of hard work gets dismissed because they are, not to mention in a world with so much division already do we really need it here as well, by showing bias for certain creators?

Listening to what you were saying specially around 20:00 relates too much to myself. I have been on yt for 9 years and I know what my consistency is. From a few months ago it's been the worst. I have had several breakdowns, burnt out more than I could count, there were days that I simply froze and couldn't do any kind of videos and I second guess everything now, because TH-cam today is that. If it's not a spectacle with huge amount of money given, or 10k to a random who subscribes, or stuff full of hatred, it just doesn't pick it up. No matter what TH-cam is talking right now, that "you should switch algorithm for audience and blá-blá-blá", it's not what is going on. My channel has 2.3 million subs and I am struggling to do 10.000 views on a video. The videos have been getting 70000-80000 Impressions unless it's some new update on a big game and I have also the search helping driving views. My channel dropped 75% reach and I constantly see people commenting that they thought I had stopped uploading because they never saw my channel anymore. I HATE this tiktokzation of TH-cam, and how the creators are treated like we don't matter. And the truth is, we don't matter. I feel that once we could build a community, but now more and more we are just the annoying person with a facecam preventing people from seeing the game they want to see. And if I stop today, it doesn't matter as well. My first baby was born and I took two days off to be in the hospital with my wife and I feel I'm paying for that up to today. It went straight downhill out of nowhere. I fear that my channel will just die and I will lose my full time job without even knowing what am I doing wrong.

This is definitely scary because these companies either don't realize that it's something that can affect people's behaviors and day-to-day lives (or they do, but are too high up on the status level to care, and all they do care about is making more money off of people in the current system). There's an increased amount of people willing to self-harm and/or harm others for the sake of views/likes on social media in general because it's their jobs on the line (such as when people take selfies in front of wildlife and end up putting the wildlife they're with in danger due to the lack of fear of humans).
Stop depending on youtube for your income. If all you cowards would just purposely do videos that get no ads then the advertisers wouldn't get their ads up, therfore they have to bow to the youtube creators "rules". You guys all took the knee instead....your so called "community" is weak and useless. None of you have done literally anything to fight back in any way, shape, or form

I'll do my utmost to try and make my timeline good, and work with this mystical fucking algorithm that probably knows my dick size more than I do, I'll have hundreds of accounts and words muted, but even after all that my timeline is just... slosh. Dumbass celebrity spew, bigotry, people also voicing their concerns, for twitter it's the Hydra that is topics - you block one topic, three more take its fucking place and clutter your TL.
Then I check in on some artist I follow, they upload daily, I have them added to a bunch of lists, I like and retweet their content whenever possible. Their content just... never, ever appears no matter what I do.
It doesn't even feel like these algorithms are working for what's popular, or what's creating outrage, they're just outright broken.
The only consistent behavior at TH-cam is that whenever they fuck up, it only gets corrected when a big creator points it out, and the fuck up is always an "error". They constantly apply their rules inconsistently, then treat any call-out of that unjust application like it's a one-time mistake, with no indication that they have any plans to fix the underlying problem
They definitely don’t have plans they’re a monopoly grown lazy. Why would they fix anything when there’s literally nowhere else to go. It’s surprising that youtube hasn’t been split by anti trust laws. The only other competitor in the same content type is Vimeo i geuss, and they’ve just been slowly dying.

It is getting worse. I read on the yt reddit that the Trusted flaggers, the people that battled the bots and flagged suspicious stuff (child pedo stuff) , got their influence and the amount of stuff they could do reduced to a miniscule amount. Hence reporting the bot comments and channels for normal users and TF don’t do anything. TF people don’t matter anymore in Yt eyes. It will keep getting worse and worse

Not just as Creator, but also as viewer, you notice just how much creators have changed, and how the feeling and atmosphere in videos or TH-cam itself has changed. Sure a lot of changes are essential and you have to go with the time, like younger audience, variety of content or whatever, but by now TH-cam feels just so much more boring in itself. Being around TH-cam since it started growing, I never "cared less" about this platform than now, just because you can feel this stiffness and errors all around.
I used to be on youtube any second I had free. Now I barely look at it for more than an hour a day, and it's mostly to rewatch older content. It's really depressing looking at all my favorite creators just losing their identities because of all the pointless restrictions forced upon them.
Fr, like not saying these youtubers aren't funny anymore its bc of youtube itself now. Everything back then was so much more hilarious.

They new thumbnails have to have faces so you can see their thumbnails use their icons and become less clear on what they are about. same with their titles

I've been trying to keep to an upload schedule of once every three days, but I missed a day once due to a recording error and had to upload the video a day late. This one little slipup cost me nearly 25% of my average viewers, on that video and videos following it, because the videos just weren't being given the same number of impressions. It was shocking and disheartening, the pressure of constantly staying on time and present on the platform can be pretty intense.
Also, the notion of feeling like you have to start your video with the title and thumbnail and work backwards from there in order for it to be successful is something I very much sympathize with. You have to be sensational, you have to give just enough information that it's not misleading but withhold enough to keep viewers curious, and it has to feel genuine and effortless or it's clickbait. It makes it difficult sometimes to make videos that aren't necessarily covering the most immediately exciting material without feeling like you're wasting your time or having to play things up for the camera. There are plenty of videos I've wanted to make about obscure little things that I don't know how to package in a way where the videos will be successful and well received, and making unsuccessful videos hurts your numbers, making it harder for future videos to be given traction.
I love your videos, I'm sorry the platform is like that because you may upload in an area of niche, but it's top tier content in that space! Just know you still have fans of your work regardless of how the TH-cam algorithm operates 🖤

There is only 1 way.
A mass boycott of the majority of the creator community. It will only make a small 2% dent in their profits, but the defamation will not be good for their PR and a lot of sponsors/brands will pull away. They'll have to take action if not for their Profit, then for their Reputation
There is one way, but nobody considers it viable, because _technically_ it isn't. On its own, it's inefficient, non-viable, very much something that people will get arrested for. Done alongside a much bigger movement to end a lot of bad practices on the other hand? That's doable, and we'll see success. However the problem arises that not a lot of people sympathize with each other in the same way anymore. What I mean by that, is that turning a profit tends to take priority over the moral choice, and due to hundreds of years of systems that have indoctrinated people into thinking this way of living is viable, no-one really thinks of doing anything any more, as if it just isn't possible, or that it's wrong to try fighting for what's actually right.
My head hurts. Part of me's baffled we actually allowed this to happen, the other part understanding people are too easily manipulated by media, corporate and government control conspiracies. Even worse is, people that try explaining or exposing this often get pitted into the same hole as the real fringe and odd conspiracy theorists, which is only going to lead to further downfall.

TH-cam definitely just needs to be WAY more transparent. Because when it gets to the point of flagging someone's video, and not telling them why, that's when it becomes unacceptable.
I think one of the biggest issues that contributes to a lot of these inconsistencies is simply that TH-cam isn't for adults anymore, they've made themselves a platform that is made for KIDS. They want those clickbait titles and intense energy because kids fall for it and click it. If it doesn't attract children... TH-cam doesn't want it to be seen. And so, adult viewers and more casual mature uploaders don't get given a voice. Us adult viewers are struggling to find content made for us anymore because of youtubers being forced to attract kids instead. Its sad and honestly just confusing. Grow with the audience, those who have been here for years aren't little anymore and we want to see our favourite channels grow up too, but TH-cam is trying to trap them in an immortally young bubble.

(Unrelated to Cory) Ultimately, if it's not going to affect their image or their bottom line, they aren't going to do anything. Executives are flippant, unreliable, out of touch leeches who only care about how to line their wallets. So you don't really need to ask me "do you really think--" NO. Historically speaking, given that it is relatively new, and new tech tends to go through a 'okay this is unethical/getting people killed, time to reel it in to not suck so badly' period. Thinking of industrial revolution assembly line work conditions, or the shift from apothecaries to pharmacies type situations. Hopefully this is that period for TH-cam.
They really need to get their priorities straight. I hate how social media has pushed this fixed idea on who should and shouldn’t be popular, and silencing anyone who points them out on their algorithm. It’s an issue that they need to be called out on and suffer the consequences for.

This whole "guilty until proven innocent" thing that TH-cam has going on is really annoying.
I uploaded a simple tutorial video and almost instantly they threatened to give me a community guidelines STRIKE.
All I did was link to my Reddit account, which I marked as 18+ and TH-cam INSTANTLY flagged the video as containing "nudity or sexual imagery"
I chatted up support about the whole ordeal (they were lovely, by the way) and they basically said "there's not much we can do except wait for them to e-mail you about the appeal"
I checked my e-mail and they were just like "oh, our bad. It turns out there ISN'T full-frontal nudity in this Davinci Resolve tutorial"
They took back the warning and backpedal'd on everything so my channel is fine, but it was still annoying. I was getting ready to stream THAT DAY and if you get hit with a strike you can't stream or upload anything.
Yeah I lost my whole entire channel over one mistake that I ahd no intention of making with zero strikes before while other people are fine. Small creators have it the worst on youtube

I've never understood why TH-cam Kids isn't just its own, completely separate thing so that regular TH-cam is not held to the same rules when it comes to availability of ad revenue and threats towards content/channel takedowns.
I'm an adult--the creators I watch are adults--we talk about and watch/play adult sh*t and curse--it's no secret...
So, WHY are we dealing with a level of censorship that should be exclusively an issue for children?
Why can't we just have this adult-friendly corner of the internet and the kids have theirs separate from ours?
It's like how there are TV networks catered specifically to adults with shows like Family Guy while you have TV networks catered specifically to children with shows such as Bluey. We're not talking about "adult videos" here--we're talking about adult-targeted content.
I don't feel like it should be such a hard concept for Google/TH-cam to grasp, and I don't feel like creators on the non-kid platform should have to deal with the "what if" scenarios where children, who either aren't having their internet activity monitored or aren't particularly sheltered from things they shouldn't be exposed to just yet, because that is not our responsibility/fault nor is it for TH-cam/Google.
They literally already have TH-cam Kids, so just DRAW THE LINE BETWEEN THEM AS TWO SEPARATE ENTITIES. It shouldn't complicate the TH-cam platform for adults because there is a literal alternative version SPECIFICALLY FOR CHILDREN/ADOLESCENTS.
As I understand it the Made For Kids restrictions are less a specific design decision, and more TH-cam being forced to implement it because they got sued and the FTC decided TH-cam Kids and the age requirements on their main platform weren't sufficient proof that TH-cam wasn't collecting personal data from children. It's not so much "kids are watching this video so we have to restrict it" as "we're reasonably confident that kids _aren't_ watching this specific video, so we can process it like normal", all under threat of even greater fines than the $170 million they already paid.
I really agree with you. You got places like Amazon prime or Netflix doing the same thing. They have kid stuff and adult stuff. They would probably make more money if the have two separate browsers. It’s not our responsibility to make sure our passion won’t effect kids. Parents should be monitoring what kids watch. I wasn’t allowed to watch certain things until I was a teenager.

I wanted to start a gaming channel this year but after how many creators are struggling and these are known creators struggling makes me wonder how worth it it is to dedicate into something that isn't currently stable. I lost 3 creators that are no longer posting because TH-cam is flagging their videos and not even explaining why. So not only is TH-cam discouraging creators we like their worrying new creators as well. like you said you've been doing this for 10 years you work hard everyday providing content that you can't be sure is going to be okay or not. its like having a job that keeps you on probation. its really disappointing to see TH-cam not really doing much to sort this issue out despite it being a big problem for a while. has it come to the stage that TH-cam is just no longer interested in their creators and just want money. TH-cam was really entertaining for the most part in previous years but even as a viewer I'm enough of ads every 5 minutes its like one of those stupid clickbait games now. On the topic of appeals, reviews, and website reps: Tiktok has the same verification/review process problem, if not worse. They purposefully leave their terms of service very vague so they can decide who gets taken down and who doesn't. I know it's a different platform from TH-cam, but it plays into the issue of manual vs automated reviews and other algorithm based flagging and appeals. As an artist who can spend weeks on a very short video, it's so heartbreaking when something just gets smacked down without a second thought. A lot of us have also been through the process of appeals and being ignored by the system. Love that you're speaking out on this.

TH-cam is not a secure job by its nature and is by no metric what people would associate as a standard job. It’s an entertainment job with a lifespan that is very dependent on popularity which can be fickle, so I’m inclined to disagree with transparency aiding in job safety. Instead I would suggest that not having transparency on *how to do the job as well as a lack of *consistency between instruction and enforcement effectively presents itself like a manager sabotaging their own project while it’s being shipped. This is incredibly unstable (maybe that’s what you were getting at with safety) and causes a rift in trust between employee and employer, especially for smaller creators that literally are doing this for free and have no real ties to the platform.
@@cocohamp19 this is something I think a lot of people are missing. I don't think it's great that youtube works in such a way that causes these issues for youtubers but we can't look at this the same way you'd look at a traditional job, it just isn't one and doesn't work like one.

The biggest issue is a lack of transparency with users. TH-cam needs an explanation of how this works for everyone, both in long legal jargon for the specifics, and in a TL;DR format for those that the jargon would be inaccessible to.
specially politically speaking they outright remove videos from the feeds they disagree with, the same with visibility on so many comments aswell they disagree with. afterall you dont have the choice to disagree with anyone or dislike what they say weather good or bad, so sit in the corner and like it since thats all you got and let youtube corporate choose what gets fed to public eyes.

This is less of racism and more of favoritism. The smaller youtubers (regardless of race) are being picked on by YT while the bigger ones remain untouched.
I really feel like at this point, people just need to do the brave thing & change to another platform. TH-cam has ZERO competition, which is the reason they don't care when this issue comes up over & over & over again.

If the system is bad for someone as "important" and profitable to TH-cam, I can only imagine how much of a problem this is for smaller creators. It's like playing a game you don't know the rules for, and just when you think you start to understand, they change on you without announcement. It makes the game un-fun for both those watching and those playing.

14:14 there’s also region flags as well.. sometimes content shared from different areas have different rules, regulations, etc. I know you’re a larger channel, but I’ve seen where smaller channels I can only see some videos where as others say, “not available in your area,” due to different flags
