Ignorance is lack of knowledge. Therefore whenever and wherever knowledge appears, there is no longer lack of knowledge. So it is crystal clear that knowledge removes ignorance by it's very and unique nature. This property of removing the lack of it's inverse (ignorance) is unique to knowledge. And this is why knowledge alone will remove ignorance.
The secondary means will only help knowlegde to remove ignorance, which ultimately has to be dealt with by knowledge alone.

I totally relate to these first metaphors. I feel my devotion and love brought me here, but since I have been given the opportunity to understand my true nature, I have at last found a little bit of peace. Awareness of my nature is being an essential tool to stop the hurricane of anxiety in my thoughts! Thank you Swamiji! Love from Brazil!

Dear Swamiji, you are the funniest guru!
Thank you so much for the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta, transmitted with love,
from the heart and with a deep understanding of this philosophical metaphysical wisdom!!!
By tradition, I will allow myself to cite a few sayings of the teacher of the millennium,
the beacon of jnana, my guru Sri Ramana Maharshi about Self-knowledge:
    769. Self-abidance [atma-nishtha], which shines without defect,
alone will destroy all bondage, which is non-Self.
[On the other hand] discrimination [viveka] which distinguishes the real,
one’s own nature, from the unreal, is only an aid to pure desirelessness.
    770. If you enquire [you will find that] you are not that [the body] which you now take yourself to be.
[Therefore] enquire what you are, drown in the heart
and be directly established as ‘You are That [Self]’.
    771. Knowing well that there is no permanent foothold
    anywhere for the soul
except in remaining merely as the one reality, destroy desires towards everything,
but without aversion [towards anything], and abide in
    the Heart
as one with the supreme existence-consciousness [Sat-Chit].
(Guru Vachaka Kovai - Garland of oral instructions of Sri Ramana Maharshi)
    OM TAT SAT

I Exist. Because I Exist, I AM Conscious. Because I AM Conscious, I Am aware I Exist. Why I AM aware? Because I Exist. Why I Exist? This question does not arise because I Exist without any beginning and end. Hence Existence and Consciousness are not tow but ONE. Not knowing all these at the experiential level is 'ignorance', incomplete knowledge [and not absence of knowledge]. Ignorance is the veil through which we know our Existence and Consciousness incompletely. Half-knowledege is misleading. Swamiji's explanation of these are really like a lightening breaking the darkness of dark clouds. I Am very thankful to Swamiji. My humble pranaams.

    • @Dharmicaction
      @Dharmicaction 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Absolute (shiva) and the relative world (shakthi) cannot exist without each other. Oneness does not mean the relative world is an illusion. There is dharma vs adharma within the relative world. So, action is more important than inaction (Baghavad Gita). So, we should not escape from our dharmic responsibilities by saying everything is "one" and we don't have to deal with adharma. If we are mere spectators of adharma despite knowing that it is adharma, we create karma and reincarnation.

yes.. its true that knowledge is more important than bhakti to understand atman .... but for knowledge we need Budhi (brain power) . Common people don't have that... thats why bhakti more popular way to understand atman than knowledge.. The longest way is Bhakti, and the shortest is Gyan Yoga, i think.

Dear Swamiji - me and my family thoroughly love all your presentations. We really appreciate the passion with which you try to articulate and simplify things for naive seekers like us. Thank you!
Now, I am intrigued to listen to the upcoming presentations on "Atma Bodha" topic - to understand how Atma is not "the Atma", and what it actually is.
Thinking further on the topic for today "light alone removes darkness", i think different religions/faiths in the world today, are nothing but different forms of light (oil lamp, torch, tubelight, candle, bulb etc) - each trying to remove ignorance from people's minds. Do you think this would be a correct metaphor?
Thank you once again for the wonderful experience! Hari Om!

Hi :) your comment made me think of a documentary on youtube called Samadhi. I highly recommend it. I’m not Swamiji but I think your metaphor is correct. In the film they touch on this exact topic, that all religion is connected because it is ultimately the same teachings in different forms. Imagine 8 people blindfolded touching different spots of an elephant. They all think they are touching something different. One is touching a tusk, another the skin, another the tail but in reality is is all the same elephant.

This study of Self Knowledge needs viveka and vairagya. With the proper foundation you will be able to embrace truth and reject falsehood. Religion with it's karmas brings you to your own inner deity. Crossing the threshold into the garbh grha ,one attains Bodha.

Following the metaphor of cooking rice, not only fire is a primary source, but also air (Vāyu), since you cannot make fire without air. What would air symbolically represent in terms of means of knowledge?
