ive been looking for actual genuine critiques of genshin in this community to explore the widespread burnout most players (including myself) have gone through. you were able to bring out so many active issues with both the community and the way the game operates that i am relieved there are people capable of recognizing how predatory the game is, as well as how it has birthed a festering rise of driders. great video and i hope to look forward to your future reviews and analyses i find them very engaging

I started back in 3.4, and despite how much I want to own some of these characters (Yelan, Hu Tao, Raiden, Kazuha and Zhongli are main on my radar) I have a sneaking suspicion that I might quit during the Fontaine runtime. Nothing I saw in the trailers and livestream really peaked my interest aside from Childe being there and the landscapes being nice. I want to say that I'll play for a long time, that I'm looking forward to having X or Y character, but why lie to myself? And the worst part is that the community will never support you on anything; they're so quick to shit on you, degrade you and/or shoo you off. It's reminds me of that episode on South Park about social anxiety where everyone starts wearing bags over their heads so they don't see outside of their phones. It's like this community actively doesn't want to acknowledge the problems or deal with them. It's like being fed day old meals all the time, but you put a fuckton of ketchup on it to make yourself believe that you're eating fresh food.
Unrelated, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Let's say you got the characters you wanted. What are you going to do with them? There will be nothing to do. Therw is no endgame, and whiteknights are scared to admit it.

DE was able to create strong permanent content in Warframe and give you incentives to play every day. In Genshin, you log in, do daily activities, play a quest if there is one, do exploration of a new region if there is one, then log off. Noth more.

I remember that one time where i spoke to a "kazuha lover"... i only mentioned that i don't really like kazuhas char design. the person blocked me instantly and i had a sort of "contact" to this person for over three months... i wish more people would understand, and i say this as person who played genshin for over two years, that the developers of genshin created something big with great visuals and music etc... but at the same time they created a thing wich makes people an unrealistic thinkin behaviour and a dam expensive game wich is not Bad but not good either. not only that. It is indeed a Horrible businessmodel behind all that. Now the following... It was a chinese thing before... now it is a worlds thing. people are isolating themselves and the things go on while rich people milking out money out of weak people. I'm glad you say it like it is, and describe even my feelings towards the game aswell (I quit a couple months ago). Hopefully you remember that all the people attacking you, and defending hoyo like crazy, are the same people who can't seem to separate a good game from a predatory company. A common problem I've noticed is that if you are a part of an online fandom/community, and you dare be even slightly critical about any kind of theme in that same community, other members often seem to take it as a kind of personal attack against them, call you an antifan, do all these crazy reaches just to try and prove you wrong, etc. etc. *Point is*, don't let yourself be gaslit into thinking that there's merit to all the vehement backlash, when it's really just people coping.

For me though, some of your arguments lose a bit of credibility because of the very negative tone you have against people directly, most of whom you've never met, and you act like you know them well enough to judge them. Truly I wanna say something, I love Genshin and I hate it, I enjoy playing it almost everyday and I have been playing for less then a year, some may call me addicted or an utter loser, but no! I am having fun finding ways to build my characters, having fun exploring the world, and making memories with friends, or having a blast paying events! It may sound weird since this game has a lot to work on, a lot to improve, LIKE A LOT, however it can be enjoyed! You just need to know how manipulating it can be, how much it can hook you, making you lose your sanity! Don’t do that, don’t neglect your life because of a game! Maybe if gaming is your hobby (I don’t judge it’s mine too) try another game, but still find enjoyment in Genshin, cause it can be enjoyed! Be above it all, don’t rush, don’t get dependent on the game, realize before you act, sometimes take breaks from Genshin (like I did) and you might return refreshed and ready to get another view of the appeal of this open world rpg that has such a deep lore (just watch Ashikai I don’t know it all)! Every game is made to be enjoyed, this game too, although Hoyo is a pile of shit that only cares for hot waifus, I have seen hope - just look no further then Furina! An amazingly made character with a complicated story that has sufficient depth! There is… a little hope, just a dime of hope, but hope dies last! Maybe Hoyoverse will open their eyes one day like we can already see some progress with the new 4.3 optimizations, like I said - there is hope and even if not - the memories of it all last forever and can make you suck a brighter person! Everything is fine in moderation! I've been playing since the start and I do fully agree and see a lot of people that this guy is talking about in discord servers and I probably am one of those people. Sorry I copied this comment from the previous video of yours I commented on, I just really wanted you to see it 😅 This is just a theory, but I think the reason why Gachas took off so well isn't just because of gacha addiction but because Gacha companies are actively trying to fill in the gaps in the market. Because before Genshin or other Gachas, what did gamers have? They still have f2p games and cash shop mechanics but they were mostly in either mobile games or MMOs. And trust me, a LOT of them are so much worse, from being obsessed to point you to their shops, to boring gameplay loops to blatant power creep, endless level grind etc All of it was so much worse in korean MMOs, regular MMOs and mobile games. And then Genshin and other Gachas come in with slightly less grind, with "pity systems" and with way more interesting looking gameplay than your average mobile game, I mean mobile games are so down bad they have A F K GENRE NOW, WTF?!? 😂 That's not a defense of gatchas btw, I personally don't play em, not sure exactly why, but maybe it's because of my experience with one mobile game called PvZ2 and how, even though it's decline felt weaker aka you just needed to do arena, dailies and penny pursuit and I MAY have gotten further if I just stuck around but I asked myself "why"? Even since Popcap stopped releasing new worlds and added arena I slowly stopped enjoying the game and it felt like a second job, it's like being a student/wagie but you don't even get knowledge or currency for your suffering. So I just... Left. I couldn't justify doing this man, it was so annoying, so bland felt like my soul got sucked by that mobile game, so I uninstalled the app for last time and never looked back(even if I had sunbloom cuz Popcap removed him from gemerald pool, but nah screw em) I also had some experience with MMOs, and here's the thing, I'd argue I played one of the BEST of them, Dragon Nest, sht is FIRAH but even that felt predatory cuz they did have pay2win item, then after several years I stumbled upon private EU community servers that recreate dragon next 1 to 1 up to 80 or 90 lvl cap, and it felt amazing, but even though those servers removed ALL pay2win crap, I still started experiencing same issue of *grinding*, sure I could be 1000h+ gamer to perfectly learn boss patterns to dodge flawlessly so I wouldn't need better gear but like, it's near unrealistic due to my laggy pc and due to the important bosses and events being weekly at best, so I felt like I just doing a second job again so I left, again. Not sure if I'll come back to that one, but I'll definitely won't come back to regular MMOs. So that's what I think is happening. One thing I forgoe to mention is that MMOs experienced this weird phenomenon where most players started playing solo, even though the whole appeal of MMOs was about community content not solo... And look at 90% of gachas, they're solo experiences, so Gachas are basically tapping into the mmo market of solo players and mobile market which desperately needed better games. Hence WHY you see people defend Hoyo and others so hard, it's legitimately the best experiences they had. Also one funny coincidence or evidence is that, Asmongold used to be MMORPG player... And *guess which game genre he eventually started playing, it starts with G* 😂 Edit: Last piece of evidence, in order for many games to take off they need to have atleast some starting loyal fanbase then they use said fanbase to get the casual player. And guess where gachas are SUPER popular? In Japan and *Korea* two countries INFAMOUS for grindy af MMORPG games. No wonder they simp so hard for Genshin cuz average korean mmo is like 100 MILLION percent more grindy, more unfair, you basically look and play like a peasant without spending atleast something, but in Genshin they are basically Gods.
One thing that would fix a lot for me is a god damn skip button for all those useless fuckin dialogs in quests. Fuckin hours of doing nothing but clicking to skip this shit story so I can get a sniff of some primogems. This game is a fuckin prison I swear.

You just need to know how manipulating it can be, how much it can hook you, making you lose your sanity! Don’t do that, don’t neglect your life because of a game! Maybe if gaming is your hobby (I don’t judge it’s mine too) try another game, but still find enjoyment in Genshin, cause it can be enjoyed! Be above it all, don’t rush, don’t get dependent on the game, realize before you act, sometimes take breaks from Genshin (like I did) and you might return refreshed and ready to get another view of the appeal of this open world rpg that has such a deep lore (just watch Ashikai I don’t know it all)! Every game is made to be enjoyed, this game too, although Hoyo is a pile of shit that only cares for hot waifus, I have seen hope - just look no further then Furina! An amazingly made character with a complicated story that has sufficient depth! There is… a little hope, just a dime of hope, but hope dies last! Maybe Hoyoverse will open their eyes one day like we can already see some progress with the new 4.3 optimizations, like I said - there is hope and even if not - the memories of it all last forever and can make you suck a brighter person! Everything is fine in moderation! And when you realize you are burnt out - take a break, the primos are not your life (unlike what others think)!

I love the gameplay and building characters the most in this game even though it's utter crap of an equipment system with gacha within gachas. I've been playing since the start and I do fully agree and see a lot of people that this guy is talking about in discord servers and I probably am one of those people. This is just a theory, but I think the reason why Gachas took off so well isn't just because of gacha addiction but because Gacha companies are actively trying to fill in the gaps in the market.
Because before Genshin or other Gachas, what did gamers have? They still have f2p games and cash shop mechanics but they were mostly in either mobile games or MMOs. And trust me, a LOT of them are so much worse, from being obsessed to point you to their shops, to boring gameplay loops to blatant power creep, endless level grind etc All of it was so much worse in korean MMOs, regular MMOs and mobile games.
And then Genshin and other Gachas come in with slightly less grind, with "pity systems" and with way more interesting looking gameplay than your average mobile game, I mean mobile games are so down bad they have A F K GENRE NOW, WTF?!? 😂
That's not a defense of gatchas btw, I personally don't play em, not sure exactly why, but maybe it's because of my experience with one mobile game called PvZ2 and how, even though it's decline felt weaker aka you just needed to do arena, dailies and penny pursuit and I MAY have gotten further if I just stuck around but I asked myself "why"?
Even since Popcap stopped releasing new worlds and added arena I slowly stopped enjoying the game and it felt like a second job, it's like being a student/wagie but you don't even get knowledge or currency for your suffering. So I just... Left. I couldn't justify doing this man, it was so annoying, so bland felt like my soul got sucked by that mobile game, so I uninstalled the app for last time and never looked back(even if I had sunbloom cuz Popcap removed him from gemerald pool, but nah screw em)
I also had some experience with MMOs, and here's the thing, I'd argue I played one of the BEST of them, Dragon Nest, sht is FIRAH but even that felt predatory cuz they did have pay2win item, then after several years I stumbled upon private EU community servers that recreate dragon next 1 to 1 up to 80 or 90 lvl cap, and it felt amazing, but even though those servers removed ALL pay2win crap, I still started experiencing same issue of *grinding*, sure I could be 1000h+ gamer to perfectly learn boss patterns to dodge flawlessly so I wouldn't need better gear but like, it's near unrealistic due to my laggy pc and due to the important bosses and events being weekly at best, so I felt like I just doing a second job again so I left, again. Not sure if I'll come back to that one, but I'll definitely won't come back to regular MMOs. So that's what I think is happening.
One thing I forgoe to mention is that MMOs experienced this weird phenomenon where most players started playing solo, even though the whole appeal of MMOs was about community content not solo... And look at 90% of gachas, they're solo experiences, so Gachas are basically tapping into the mmo market of solo players and mobile market which desperately needed better games.
Hence WHY you see people defend Hoyo and others so hard, it's legitimately the best experiences they had. Also one funny coincidence or evidence is that, Asmongold used to be MMORPG player... And *guess which game genre he eventually started playing, it starts with G* 😂
Edit: Last piece of evidence, in order for many games to take off they need to have atleast some starting loyal fanbase then they use said fanbase to get the casual player. And guess where gachas are SUPER popular? In Japan and *Korea* two countries INFAMOUS for grindy af MMORPG games. No wonder they simp so hard for Genshin cuz average korean mmo is like 100 MILLION percent more grindy, more unfair, you basically look and play like a peasant without spending atleast something, but in Genshin they are basically Gods.
