    Q: How to get a Statement In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad?
    A: In order to get a Statement In-Lieu of Certificate of Non-Impediment to Marriage Abroad you need to submit a request either by mail or in person. Your request has to include your certified birth certificate if you're born in Canada, or the certified true copies of both your Record of Landing and Canadian citizenship card in the case you were not born in Canada. You also have to make a statutory declaration of your present marital status before a Notary or Commissioner of Oaths. The name and citizenship of your future spouse should be reflected upon in the declaration. If you were married before, you'll need to include any certified documents that prove you either got a divorce or your spouse died.

    Yes, he should get the document in Canada from Foreign Affairs. The processing time is normally a couple of weeks.

    There is no guarantee but there is a chance. It depends no whether or not they need you to answer any questions and also how busy they are. Their standard is 3 weeks, so it is unlikely, but you never know. We regularly see other government departments both beat their stated processing times by quite a lot, and miss those processing times.

    This helped out a lot as I couldn't get the proper information from anyone.. even from Foreign Affairs, Canada. It needs to be properly updated on their site so people won't need scramble everywhere. So, I have my Certified Birth Certificate long form/need to go to a notary or a commissioner of oath for the declaration and then Road trip to Ottawa...(Am I missing anything?) Thanks so much again!!

    O.k I know where to send the documents but can they be photocopied birth-certificate and what kind of form do I send documents with or what kind of cover letter......all it says to do is send these documents but how will I know or you know unless there is some cover letter or form regarding why I am even sending this stuff! Foreign affairs Canada is a days trip from me, so I will be mailing them but how exactly should I present the forms? Do I just say these are my documents for statement in-lieu of certification of non-impediment to marry abroad?

    • @immigroup
      @immigroup  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know the answer myself (I am just the webmaster). I would assume a cover letter would be acceptable but I don't know for sure. The government website is not very helpful as you may have seen: www.international.gc.ca/department-ministere/authentication-authentification_documents.aspx?lang=eng#Statements

      Well thank you for your quick reply :) Yah the site is not very helpful.....It says it's free to have it authenticated, and this other place says it's around $400??? I might just have her come to Canada to marry her here where things are made more simple lol

    • @immigroup
      @immigroup  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      What other place?

    • @jeffarlitt6749
      @jeffarlitt6749 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can't remember the other site that charges $400 but they are like a middle person, so probably not trustworthy......I was told I can just go directly to Manila Embassy with all required documents........ Canadians must appear in person at the Embassy in Manila or the Consulate in Cebu. The non-Canadian fiancé(e) is not required to be present. At the Embassy, no appointment is required during the Consular Section Client Service Hours and the Statutory Declaration can normally be issued on the same day. To obtain the Statutory Declaration in Cebu, please contact the Consulate to make an appointment.
      Requirements
      your valid Canadian passport or citizenship certificate;
      the full legal name, citizenship, and residential address of your future spouse;
      if you are divorced or widowed, an original or certified true copy of the final divorce decree or death certificate. All documents presented at the Embassy must be in English or French, or accompanied by an official English or French translation; and
      the non-refundable processing fee. It sounds like after about 10 days If everything goes through than we can marry.......does this sound correct?

    Does this work for a Brazilians and British ?

    • @immigroup
      @immigroup  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It applies to Canadian citizens getting married abroad. Each country will have their own process. Canada does not have a central marriage registry.
