Like your camera work. Smooth panning and zooming with no herky jerky movement. Allows the viewer to see what you are looking at instead of flashing past everything.

Ray, I enjoy watching your channel. I am new to camping in the southwest and like being able to see places and your reviews. One additional thing I would love in these videos is if you could mention what kind of cell reception you are getting as I work on the road so it would be valuable information to have. Thanks for continuing to do what you do!
Thanks, I use Campedium to check on cell reception. Seems a lot of younger working people use the site so has reviews with specific cell strengths and carriers. www.campendium.com/ Almost all the places I've visited have Verizon service and most ATT as well. T-mobile is hit and miss good near major highways and cities, poor in rural areas. If I was you I would have Verizon and ATT. Places that tend to lack cell service are National Parks and heavily hilled and mountainous areas. Cheers, Ray

I camped there years ago. I enjoyed seeing it again, thanks. The Portal area is supposed to be a prime birding area during the spring migration, especially around the end of April and early May.
Sunny Flat looked like a nice place to stay, you could have gotten in there with a ladder and saw. LOL. Music at the beginning of your drive reminded me of the movie “Chisum” with John Wayne.
The best one we have is Passport America, we used to have a Thousand Trails yearly zone pass but got bored of the same parks. Also, we built up an off-grid power system that gave us more options for camping versus RV parks so canceled. We also have AAA which sometimes gets us 10% off and we have Good Sam which does the same sometimes.
Feel like I’m reliving my trip. Camped in Bonita Cyn cg. One day drove pinery cyn road over to cave creek & portal. The road climbs to 7500 ft & is not for the faint of heart. For smaller rigs the 2nd cg east of the one u drove thru is lovely. Thanks for the beautiful post Ray.
Love your Videos... But I was wondering if there are ways to save on your Diesel fuel , Do you use any special cards , stations or truck stops to save on fuel prices , Ones that you find better then others ?
Thanks, can't say I do much. Most of the truck stops have loyalty cards, but I find they also have higher fuel prices generally so doesn't save much versus stopping at a regular station with a good price. I'm usually more concerned with getting good fuel versus cheap fuel so tend to pick modern looking, busy stations. Paying cash saves a few cents a gallon but paying with credit cards gets rewards from them so kinda evens out.
Wow, really liked this place! It's going on my list. It's very helpful how you show your trips on the topo map and give info on accessibility. My 5er is about the same size as yours, so you make a good canary in the coal mine for me. :)
That is an area that really looks great will try and check it out. Can't beat a good green chile cheeseburger especially if it is made with a Hatch green chile yum.
Ray, you're good at bird watching and probably know the answer to this question. Right in that video clip where you're showing us your campsite, there is a bird (I'm assuming) that has this long almost frog or cicada-type call. I heard it here in NM today for the first time and couldn't figure out what it was. I'd love to know! (Video starts at 4:25.) Beautiful, that Cave Creek Canyon! Lovely. It's about 3 hrs and 15 minutes from where I am. Might be a nice day trip.
They have an excellent birding app for the smartphone - merlin.allaboutbirds.org/ Once you download the regions bird packs you'll be able to use the phone to help identify, it has built-in calls and songs. I had birds come right up after playing their call. :)
Ray, did you note any stretch of the road into the canyon that would be difficult to maneuver a motorhome? I saw a smaller class C in the campground. Great video as always.
Lots of low branches, I would think some crossing of the center line would be required in many parts to avoid them. Always hard to tell height but seemed really tight to me.
Likely depends on temperature, humidity and how much rain. This season the only fly issue we've experienced was at Saddle Mountian near Buckeye Arizona. Heavy rains in the summer and fall had wetted down large piles of dry manure I was told and created a huge larva hatch. I find once the temps get above 80F then more and more insects show up, we migrate seeking mild conditions. Moving up in elevation. I like temps in the low 70s. Cheers, Ray
@@LoveYourRV Sounds like our experience, Ray. We usually had no flies at all, or mosquitoes, in the desert in the Summer, with one exception. We camped in a nice campground at Pacacho Peak in AZ that was near a huge horse farm. The flies almost carried us off and we couldn't wait to get out of there the next morning. Safe travels!
Actually, maybe at this point a little less adventurous. It's a pleasure to drive, quiet, comfortable, not as wide and lots of power. But still has a lot of new on it, afraid to ruin something. :) The old Ford was tough and battle-tested, also wasn't worth so much! Cheers, Ray

Yes, it does a great job, for most shooting, I just place it in Intelligent Auto mode and it figures it out, likely better than I could. ;)

You don't mention it, but we have had bad luck camping anywhere in the vicinity of horses or cattle due to the amount of flies. Was that a problem?
