In this video, I provide an overview and footage from our recent stay in the Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is located in southern Arizona about 60 miles southwest of Tucson.
Camping is free with a max stay of 14 days in a 30 day period. There are over 60 designated campsites, many large enough to accommodate an RV.
The video contains footage of our campsite views and dashcam views of the nearby town of Arivaca and Universal Ranch RV Village. Here you can dump your RV tanks and fill the fresh water for $10 and visit the local General Store for food and propane.
More footage shows off the Pronghorn Loop Scenic Drive and the drive up to the refuge visitor center.
Stay tuned till the end for a surprise visit from an Antelope Jackrabbit! What a treat to see up close.

My first visit Sept 2020 was very wonderful! The Arivaca Cienega Trail was a beautiful paradise that was a safe place. I went to the entrance of 286 to see the Pronghorn. I also drove north to some areas that were isolated and peaceful. I will be back to go camping knowing this wildlife refuge is regulated and safe which I really desire.

Hi ray & Ann. It was delightful to meet you at the visitors center. Thanks for all the helpful info. I was the wee trailer in your video heading to a perfect campsite just down from you. I fell in love with this place. Perhaps because I saw my 1st cougar in the wild (in my car!). Also the soul food restaurant & rv park was awesome. Got to do some laundry there. Th aravica creek trail was so nice too. I want to go back! Btw propane fills are 3 # even if less so around $10 for 3 gallons. That little mercantile has just about everything you would need except firewood. Great video.

I am planning a spring road trip to this area for this coming April, and this video that you made has been so very helpful! I really appreciate how you refer to the map - that helps me to visualize where everything is in relation to everything else. So much useful info here! I am not an RVer, but rather a tent camper who road trips around in my Toyota Corolla. Yet so much of the info that is helpful to RV travel also applies to my tent camping. I am going to look at some of your other videos now, particularly the one about the Kofa National Wildlife Refuge.

I wasn't living with him, but the "ticket" got sent to my mom's address. Bad daddy! He was an odd ole coot, and I loved him muchly.

Thanks for showing such a beautiful area. Is the camp limit 14 days?
Saw your comment that you are in the Wilcox area. Take a drive to the east of town at the Golf Course Lake. There are usually a bunch of Sand Hill cranes there this time of year and a good variety of ducks by the golf course and the big pond. It is an open area so it is best to go when not to windy.
You might also enjoy going south down US 191 to McNeal, AZ and checking out White Water Draw Refuge Area. It has thousands of Sand Hill Cranes. They start to leave about now but there should still be a lot. The evening fly in just at dark can be spectacular if you hit it right. There is free 4 day camping at the Draw and there is overflow along the dirt road to the south if the regular spots are filled. I do not know if the 4 day limit applies to the over flow area.

Terrific video Ray! Looks like a great place to camp.....lots of space.....no close neighbors. That jack rabbit looked like he could be part kangaroo! Thanks, here are the monthly temps, www.accuweather.com/en/us/arivaca-az/85601/february-weather/336895?unit=f you can see this week is much colder than the normal 70F highs expected this time of year.
We are over near Willcox AZ now elevation 4000, normally it's normally also around 70 but today we had snow when we woke up. Was cool though we went down to Chiricahua National Monument and got good video and pictures of snow on the rock formations. Will be posting a video of it later on this month. :) Cheers!

We visited that area after your first video. Unfortunately we turned off the highway at the FIRST sign for the wildlife area. We were towing our 29’ 5th wheel, looked at the big welcome sign and continued down a road that looked great at first but got narrower and less passable. We proceeded because of my stubbornness and ended up in the middle of nowhere hacking our way out of a dead end road and returning the way we went in. So if you go there go to the visitors centre which is not the first road you encounter. The roads on the north end are not passable when towing. A beautiful place but beware.

Beautiful sunset gorgeous time lapse. Seems kinda bizarre to allow hunting so close to camp sights. I know I sure get nervous when I hear gun shots while camping. Personally I think hunting should be outlawed, after all we're in the midst of the 6th mass extinction.

    • @LoveYourRV
      @LoveYourRV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

They have certain hunting opening, it's not all the time and hunters need a permit. They have openings for guns and other times for bow and arrows it's pretty regulated.
Hunting opportunities include mule and white-tailed deer, feral hogs, javelina, coyotes, white-winged, mourning, and Eurasian collared doves, ducks, geese, coots, skunks, jackrabbits and cottontail rabbits. No other species may be taken. Hunters must possess a valid state hunting license and applicable big game, waterfowl, archery tags and/or stamps. Hunt brochures are at the visitor center and brochure boxes along entrance roads.
The season for most species is during daylight hours from September 1 through late February or early March. Please verify season dates and species with the refuge by calling 520-823-2235 Ext 106. Or visit the Arizona Game and Fish Department website for the most recent information and regulations.
      Seasons and Permits
All hunters must possess a valid Arizona hunting license and applicable tag(s) and/or stamp(s). Seasons for migratory game birds, upland game and big game follow applicable Arizona state regulations. Migratory game birds may be hunted from one-half hour before legal sunrise to sunset. Upland and big game may be hunted from legal sunrise to sunset. Guide service providers must obtain a special use permit from the refuge. Check the Arizona Game & Fish Department for more information.
      Access
Hunting is not permitted in high public use areas or near residences. “No Hunt Zones” are posted on the ground and are identified in the refuge hunt brochure. Brochures are available at the refuge visitor center or brochure boxes posted throughout the refuge.
