I appreciate you primarily sticking to the paints available in the starter paint sets for the Stormcast, it makes it much easier for beginners such as myself. Thank you.
I didn't learn anything new, but your manner, humour, and obviously enjoyment of what you're doing makes this one of the better tutorials I've seen, and a brilliantly finished mini. This has inspired me to get on and do my Stormcast like this. Thank you sir. Subscribed.
Glad to hear it! I imagine that for a lot of folks coming to this one there's probably not any surprises, but I like to go back occasionally and cover the simple stuff. :)
Just posting this to say that as a first time painter of anything other than a wall this tutorial really helped. Now I'm two guys down out of twenty nine to go. It's a real confidence boost to find something easy to do that looks really good. So thanks a lot for this video!
I'm glad to hear it helps! It's all well and good having perfectly painted miniatures on the boxes, but I think we can get hung up on things looking 'right' when we just want some painted toys to play with. :D
Absolutely brilliant! It looks amazing and is a good way for beginners to get into edge highlighting I feel. I will also use this because I recently bought a lot of these guys and want to finish them "fast" ish :D
Hey Sonic Sledgehammer Studio, Good day to you. This looks Awesome! Super easy, indeed, especially with your easy to follow instructions. Thank you for sharing your fun creative, informative, and Excellent videos! Take care and have a wonderful week. :)
Thanks for this. Super helpful. I slammed through a squad of 5 Liberators tonight. Just highlights and the basing left to do. One thing I tried and was pleased with was using Skavenblight Dinge for the leather bits. Provides just a bit of contrast when you put the Agrax on. Thanks again for the great tutorial. I may get an AoS army done yet!
I figure it's about time I started putting basing instructions in the description, too; it's the most common question on most of these things that I always forget to record!
Awesome little tutorial - this should keep me busy for a bit whilst still on lockdown. Have had the Warhammer Nightvault boxed set sitting gathering dust for months, finally time to give it some love. Thanks!
There's a few other tutorials out there which cut different corners. I'm always super interested by seeing where people choose to make those deliberate 'mistakes' to save time, since it all speaks to someone's own style. What started as a joke about throwing Agrax Earthshade on everything actually turned into a pretty swank Liberator, so I'm not too upset. :D
I am about to buy some Stormcasts next week and this tutorial is excellent way to learn how to paint'em good&fast, additionally not too much paints requred! Good work^^
Always enjoy your posts! Great work as usual- not that the frequency of great work diminishes my enjoyment in any way! I’m more of a historical & 30/40k sci-fi gamer/hobbyist but I always get something from any tutorials that you do. Thanks man. Enjoy your day
Thanks bud! I'm trying to keep a pretty broad selection of miniatures on rotation since there's folks of all stripes who swing past this way, but I'll admit my first love is always going to be 40k, too. ;D That being said, I try and make sure there's at least -something- worth knowing in each of these things; I've picked up a lot of great painting tips from the historical gaming community and like to share back and forth across disciplines, in a manner of speaking.
Cheers for another great video! Going to do some edge highlighting on my custodies now, since they are pretty much the same colour! Another trip to GW to pick up the paints.
Hey mate, fantastic tutorial video. I absolutely LOVE how you've used agrax earthshade to shade it. I have painted about 20 of these and don't shade them as I don't like reikland fleshdhade, just gives it an ugly orange look to me and takes away from the amazing gold but I'll definitely go back and shade them with agrax. Thanks so much.
i got a reikland flashade with my boxset. seriously considering buying the gloss version. not sure yet though, might just use what ive got. or is agrax better?
Excellent, great video as usual. I want to paint mine as Celestial Vindicators. but I'll wait to see if you make a video on them, meanwhile i'll keep working on my Nighthaunt dudes. Cheers!
This video made me take the plunge and buy some Stormcast, thanks! I want to use green instead of blue though, which green would you recommend that would still work with Agrax Earthshade?
Pretty much any of the green Base paints will work well in the place of the blue, but for something that'd look close to the blue as far as tone and saturation goes, Waaagh Flesh is a pretty good substitute.
@@Baron_Laska Unfortunately you're not quite so spoiled for choice with purple! Screamer Pink or Gal Vorbak Red would be my suggestions, but both are quite different to one another.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Thanks for all your help. I've gone for Waaagh flesh and I've already got Orruk flesh and Greenskin (Army Painter) for some highlights, so let's see how it goes :-)
You can start from black without too much trouble. Retributor Armour covers pretty well, so even if you're having to do it by hand, you'll have a nice bright gold basecoat after two or three coats.
I'm not sure I mentioned the other colours while I was painting them. The Macragge Blue will usually require two coats, but the others were all just a simple one coat over the primer. You may find if you're using Abaddon Black that you will need two coats in some areas, but that's part of why I use the Vallejo Black instead - the finish isn't quite as semi-satin as the GW stuff, but under a varnish you won't see the difference.
I wouldn't say Putrid Blightking is a model for speed paint, I painted 20 of them already, and they have so much details, that speed paiting would only ruin them :v (that's my opinion tho).
@@DaChaosify Tbh, they are quite easy to paint, you can paint the flesh as a pale flesh, or a normal flesh, or like a nurgle decaying flesh, the armor can be green or other colors, to be honest, there is a lot of youtube tutorials how to paint them, and you can use different options to paint them from tutorials :p
It's a slightly older one - not as much editing as these newer videos - but this might help. It's a little more general to 15mm as a whole, but you might find something in here useful. th-cam.com/video/kxn7q5BdxR8/w-d-xo.html
For sure, there's plenty more you could do to pick it up a little. Swapping out the Ironbreaker for Runefang Steel would work as a highlight for both the steel and the gold if you wanted to go that route!
Do you know of a good alternative to Retributor Armor rattle cans? They’re about $30 a can here, which is really expensive. Maybe if I had an entire Stormcast army to paint I wouldn’t mind so much, but I’m really only doing the WH Underworlds stuff. And, I just don’t see myself doing a ton of gold armor otherwise.
To be honest, pretty much any gold spray will do the job, though I don't know of any specific alternatives. Availability will also depend on where you are! Otherwise you can just do a couple of coats of Retributor Gold from the pot over a black or grey primer and it'll do the job.
Funnily enough, some of that stone effect primer for outside use actually works pretty well when lightly sprayed on bigger miniatures like this if you're wanting a statue somewhere. :D
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio I wanna try doing some Stonecast Eternals sometime, buy I was going to go more for an intentionally chalky drydrushed look, with texture paints to create bits of texture. Like Citadel's crackle paints used on the shoulder pads, and the shield, and armagedon dunes lightly used on some select areas, all to help the model really pick up that drybrush. Finish it up with PVA blue mixed with flock to make moss like Black Magic Craft does. May have to get some Liberators to try this out on -even if I should be working on my salamanders- #50ShelvesOfGrey
It turned out really good! You forgot the gauntlets? I don't know if they can be called that, the part that is in his wrist, it's black/leather. I really enjoy your videos man! :)
Whoops! I'd honestly just missed that. I know the Sequitors wear a leather-backed gauntlet, but I'd completely missed it on the Liberators. You've got the keen eyes you can paint it on yours. ;D
I can never seem to get my paint thinned to the right amount... im always worried about it being too thick so i end up thinning it too much and flooding the model XD
Honestly, with most paints you'll find they're pretty forgiving if you don't thin them out 'enough.' Better to err on just a little too thick, since the majority of manufacturers will turn out pretty smooth anyway.
You know your a grimdark painter when what you call "dark" I call bright and vibrant. What has Heavy metal painting done to the 40k/Sig community? There is definitely more then one style to paint a mini. This is not meant to throw shade at Heavy Metal painters/style.
I've been doing these for a couple of months now, at least - I think I squeezed in ahead of WarhammerTV's brand by a few weeks! A decent chunk of viewers have mentioned being parents and having limited time for painting, so these quicker methods have a pretty broad appeal, and I've never really geared this channel toward the more complex side of things, anyhow. ;)
