    I know I’m very late to the party on this - but I’ve probably watched this video a 100 times whilst painting my huge my Nighthaunt army. This video made the daunting task of painting an army of ghost so effortless - thank you 😊

    What I love about these videos and I mean this without any disrespect is how simple and unpretentious they are. Many people seem to have a misconception about how good dry brushing and washing can get models to look but effort in versus result out cannot be beaten. At times I feel ashamed to put my models onto instagram without at least an attempt given to wet blending and NMM such is the snobbery in the hobby these days. Valid skills but totally unnecessary to achieve brilliant table top quality models that anybody would be proud to play a game with.

  • @Templarboi
    @Templarboi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    Just brilliant as always mate, can't stress enough how helpful your videos were in getting me out of the mindset that every model needed to be painted to my highest ability. Sometimes simplicity and efficiency really is the key, and that characters and HQ models are the ones where you can spend that little extra time to add more detail.

      I still struggle with it a little myself, but someone suggested thinking of painting an army as actually painting for your opponent's sake. At a glance, most of our miniatures have different silhouettes, so they're easy enough to pick out from one another on the battlefield, but all you need is to differentiate them in some way from one another. The Nighthaunt cloaks/hoods are a really good example of this, I think - your basic Chainrasps only have the hoods, where the Bladegheists have almost full capes, and the Grimghast Reapers add just a touch of red. "If you're painting an army for the tabletop," he explained, "you're really just painting to help your opponent's threat recognition." That put a really interesting shift on the attitude for me!

    • @Templarboi
      @Templarboi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio That's an excellent way of looking at it, one that I haven't heard before tbh. Maybe now I can finally decide to go for Red trims and crosses for my Black Templar intercessor segeants - as I have been conflicted about that for a while, but it certainly makes those particular models stand out and be easily recognizable for both the opponent and myself. Not to mention it's lorewise correct :D. Can't wait to see more videos from you man, keep up the great work!

      I've been at it for a while! I suppose it's fair to say that I make it look easy, but the techniques are themselves pretty straightforward and hopefully quite simple. Just a little practice is all it takes, rather than years of muckig about; my experience, distilled!

    I went Hexwraith Flame for the part below the top cloak things.
    Nighthaunt gloom for their cloak tops.
    Nihilakh oxide for skulls, arms, and hands.
    Ulthuain grey dry brush.
    Leadbelcher, agrax, typhus compound, ryza rust for the metal parts (sword pummels were B. Gold).
    Dryad bark for wood.
    Almost done. Genestealer purple for the candles is what I'm thinking. Then the bases and stones and other silly stuff. Done. :)
