The classic Roberts square body kicker is used when you need to stand on it while your partner cuts a difficult spot. Usually for a slit around a column. I think Roberts and QEP are the same company now. QEP bought Roberts in 97. I mostly did convention centers with huge floors. (1 million sq ft)
Three years in …. Do you still rate the gold Robert higher? I have been using the red crane for about 6 years now, but up until now I’ve only rated myself as a carpet layer’s useful as my official job title is storeman, but now that I’m starting to do a lot more install than in store i bought an upgrade based on this review and comment thread. Thank you.
I still have to say I think it is the best feeling kicker I have ever put my hands on, it just feels good to use. I no longer have that because I gifted it so I do not know how it held up long-term. I will say that I still have my crane and it is still working good
Been using the gel pro for about 9 months now. Depth adjustment is not working right, sticker and rubber grip is peeling. Not to impressed. Also doesn't span over top of stretcher tubes
Seems to be that the Round pipe handle roberts kicker is the best. The longer the kicker is the better it is and thats FACT. Also you should buy the thicker knee pad replacement i think when you buy kickers they come with 2 inch pad, i bought a replacement pad that is 4 inch thick. so much better the extra length on the knee pad
i love the feel of it to and the extra length as well but i have tried the fat bumpers and i dont like them , always use the thin one, thanks for your feedback
@@FloorsbySouthernboys IMO i think they are the best I have the new GT Roberts Kicker and im very happy with it same exact one that you have I have a crain set of tools i let my helper / helpers use but I'm all about Roberts Tools
@@FloorsbySouthernboys Yw welcome Ruben Maybe you can do a review on tool box next some are durable some are not just depends I personally have Kennedy tool box my dad gave me from 1978' and it still works great but anyway just food for thought my friend
crain 505 been the best ever my opinion and had Roberts gold touch. there's a small switch mechanism pin for the black outer base switch thats brakes because it takes alot of impact
Mine broke once and had it fixed yrs ago and its still going, just have to change the pad now,but its the best kicker for me,you just now it when it first its the rug your like....perfect...
Great video! I bought my Crain kicker used in a set of tools when I started doing repairs about 8 years ago. I really like the round design on the Roberts stretcher and would definitely like to see that in action. Thank you for taking your time to measure each stretcher and completely break down the specs on them. That's how a comparison video should be done! No biased opinion, just honest facts!
Red crain is the e one I learned to install with and kept working with until a year ago I bought the silver Crain 605 and believe me its a whole lot better than the red crain kicker. I still keep on for backup but the silver one is my main one
I use a 12inch wood block with screws for my teeth and at the end of it I placed padding at other side. The combination with my knee kicker and mallet is the best method to stretch set walls. Now, I know ya'll eager to hear my way in power stretching?
I have used this kicker for 5 years of my 15 years of doing flooring.. The shaft of it tho does get a little loose and twists a tad, but I still love it
Great value in your vids Reuben! I like what a few comments back said, it’s a great tool for setting walls. Always power-stretch to save your knees and stretch properly
Ian Wilson No I have never dealt with one, but what I have seen I honestly think they are ridiculous, anything that pushes a wrinkle behind it instead of in front of it is a waste of time, point being is we cannot get any better stretch then using pole stretchers , That goes for stinger tails, crab stretchers, mini stretchers, nothing compares to the traditional pole stretchers
FloorsbySouthernboys Thank you for your reply. I have been fitting carpets for 20 years in the uk. I have been watching your videos and highly respect your opinion. All the best 👍
I use the Crain 525 knee kicker. I like it cause it has the bottom locks like a stretcher has. And the head has 4 rows of big teeth instead of 3. The head is alittle bit bigger. And it's longer
thats what i said in my post. at one point i opened it u pl. shimmed the broken pin and like hot glued it. it still works to this day but i just go crain 505 had mine for like 6 years still
Have you ever tried a kneeless stretcher. It’s the hardest power stretcher to understand but it gives the same stretch as your power stretcher if used right. In really really large rooms I’ll use a crab stretcher with the kneeless
I’ve got an attachment for my stretchers made by Triforce that is pretty much the same thing as the kneeless , And I completely understand how that works, it is effective but you definitely can’t get people to believe it
@@FloorsbySouthernboys I like you. You are a good installer. And I actually retired my straight edge since watching your video on row finding Frizzay and saxony carpets. Well almost. But I have adopted your row finding and cc cutter technique. The gap left in small areas left by the straight edge has always frustrates me. Before I adopted this technique I was the only one able to locate my seams, now I can’t find them anymore 🍺 But that being said it’s not a technique that can be used by an installer who only kicks and doesn’t use power stretcher of any kind. The bubble created by seaming rows that aren’t completely straight can’t be pulled out with a kicker alone. Nothing manufactured is perfect
@@TheSavagedave You are exactly right my friend, you will never see any of my videos where I am kicking in a room, 29 years in and I can’t ever remember kicking in one single room in my career, it just don’t cut it, power stretching is the only way
My favorite is the gundlach
Cool I have never seen a Gundlach one before I will have to check those out

awesome thank you for sharing
No problem my friend
I agree 100% the gold touch is my choice!!!
😀👍
I’ve had and used all 3 kickers. I won’t ever use anything but the golden touch but I put the fat pad on it.
i really like that one to
The golden touch kicker is the creme of the crop
I've been using using a Robert's Golden Touch XL kicker had for a year so far and I wouldn't trade it for anything else
Alex Cleroux That’s awesome, thank you for your feedback it gives the viewers people that read the comments more people’s point of you besides mine
But I am slowly moving towards my power strecther I find it does a better job.
Alex Cleroux absolutely, I power stretch in everything

I use the 4” pad also..some people can’t get used to the recoil from the bigger pad but I find it is much more effective
