  • This a story I captured while in Pakwach. I’m LUO OF KENYA & he’s JONAM. I was in Pakwach for a language comparison but this story got my attention. It entails the WHY & WHERE the luo separated.

    Wajaluo as we called them in Tanzania 🇹🇿 I was born in Tanzania in the 60’s. We had Luo refugees in my hometown( Not many Kenyans know about this) Lous are the most intelligent Africans I’ve met. I was educated by Luo teachers. My Science(Physics, Chemistry and Maths) teacher Mr. Martin Onyango had books saved in his brain, no Google 😂 I live in USA now. I really appreciated what Luo teachers contributed to my academic success.

    I am a Luo from Kenya. Can I know which Luo speaks an easily understood dialect by other Luos and can there be an agreement to adopt one universal Luo Language before we lose our elders with Luo vocabulary? other subsections of Luos can retain their culture but like Kiswahili we can have one language to serve us all. We should not get lost.

      In my view, Jonam is the closest to the luo of Kenya. I had a field day in Pakwach with the Jonam. Jakom in my video is a Jonam and you can see that most times we could understand each other in luo. However, I find padhola pretty close too. The question on adopting a single dialect is beyond me🙈😊

      That lingual diversity is where cultural richness lies. It would be a loss to throw any of that away in a quest for uniformity. Words whose meanings have been lost in one community still hold meaning other communities.

    The Luo are diasporic(at least 20million spread out) and settled thousands years with skilled warriors(e.g Owiny) through conquest, intermarriage and assimilation with tendencies for large families thanks to history of polygamy in the past like all other afro groups;. The Luo conquered several kingdoms in the past through their southward movement and contributed to batutsi southwest movement to present day Rwanda.

      @@KPtravels001 This is great for future generations. In future in each one of this locations you can collaborate with locals and ask for support everywhere including online and build modest affordable museums(start with bigger one at WANG'LE), libraries of luo history, language, cultural, with a language center, computer center where younger people can pay to receive language instruction and also learn the history. This sustains the project over time with employed local staff.So for each Luo group museum, cultural center, language center, computer center, business incubation center and office-share.Other local interests can be added based on context.e.g LUO-PADHOLA HISTORY MUSEUM,LUO-ALUR HISTORY MUSEUM etc.
      And also build business incubation centers with rental office-share support local entrepreneurs in all these locations that you have visited. This sustains the project using local staff. In kenya think of kisumu, homabay, mbita, siaya etc special ancestral locations. Same with UG,TZ,CONGO etc.. There is one in kisumu(th-cam.com/video/JqlhJWV-kf4/w-d-xo.html).LUO THRIFT WAS oginga odinga vision for entrepreneurship and cultural empowerment. The Shilluk Kingdom, dominated by the Shilluk people, was located along the left bank of the White Nile river in South Sudan and southern Sudan. Its capital and royal residence were in the town of Fashoda. According to Shilluk folk history and neighboring accounts, the kingdom was founded by Nyikang, who probably lived in the second half of the 15th century. As the only Nilotic people, the Shilluk established a centralized kingdom that reached its apogee in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, during the decline of the northern Funj Sultanate. In the 19th century, the Shilluk were affected by military assaults from the Ottoman Empire, resulting in the kingdom's destruction in the early 1860s. The Shilluk king is currently not an independent political leader, but a traditional chieftain within the governments of South Sudan and Sudan. The current Shilluk king is His Majesty Reth Kwongo Dak Padiet who ascended to the throne in 1993

    The Alur are one; the location of each group is geo-politically defined interms of constituencies.
    1. Alur from the lake shore- Jonam meaning the Lakers
    2. Alur from Padyere- those centrally located.
    3. Okoro Alur- those extremely placed.
    Language dialect is almost in every tribe but Jonam being a tribe was instituted in 1995 in the CA by the so called opportunists who are driven by selfish motives of superiority and divisionism.
    Otherwise, Alur from Congo are also one with us.
    Alur has one Kingdom called Ker-Alur with chiefdoms upto Pakwach-Jonam and the tribe is Alur.

      Oooh during the Interview I could only remember "mikai" certainly. I was just throwing my chances on "nyachira" while I couldn't completely remember "nyareru". I don't think I've ever heard of that last word in 10 years. Thanks to people like you, I get to learn

    KPtravels do they have tour guides at the Wang-Lei Heritage site that narrate the history?

    • @odochokee9856
      @odochokee9856 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is a spiritualist or custodian at Wang Lee who sometimes gives full narration

      @KPtravels001  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As he said, yes there are elders who understand the history and spirituality and they are helpful. Unfortunately, I was running out of time and couldn't wait because I had to run to Interview Lang'o and Kumam in other locations far from Pakwach
