    . Having problems with the shifting in your 4 l60e transmission? This transmission is very common in a lot of GM SUVs, trucks, vans, and midsize pickups. It's even found in some cars. Dennis video I will help you diagnose to see if your shift solenoids are bad and need to be replaced.     Sir. I have a yukon denali 05 after changing the transmission fluid my transmission don't have first and 4th gear I changed both shift solenoids but the issue is still the same please help me and give me some ideas what possibly went wrong

    I've only tested via the PCM wire harness pins and fuse terminal at this time. The 1-2 solenoid is within spec but the 2-3 solenoid is showing a lesser resistance of 4.2 ohms. I'm confused as to what would create less resistance. Perhaps the ground wire is grounding to something other than the PCM?

    Like the video. Working on a GMC Sierra 1500 4.8l 4x4 auto 4l60e and its having up shift issues from 1 to 2. I'm having to let of the gas to shift. Usually tries 2nd and immediately heads to 3rd
    I can then gas up and get back down to 2nd.
    When really throttling it opens up and drops down to first hard. 3rd will release too when throttling as it tries to drop down and then it revs through the roof.
    Working on diagnosing before I get into it.
    I've just seen one of your vids on testing the solenoids and am stoked I can drop the pan and check them with a meter. Love to know of ove got the 187 pressure issue via diagnostic test.
    My clutch packs may be gone.
    Been reading about a low pressure issue or 187 code.
    I've got some learning to do.

    The video was of great helped, I was wondering if the was a way to check the A,B shift solenoids. I've seen video for Torque Converter Clutch(TCC) Solenoids. I figured since the solenoids look different, on the other videos, I did not think the same method would apply. Actually the methods we slightly different, you used a 9 volt battery and the other used the car battery. Now knowing, I can use a 9 volt battery, I understand even more why the guy said, if the solenoid gets hot it goes bad. The car battery is too strong to hold, the car battery voltage, to the solenoids continuously. Very quickly would work since all we need is to hear the click, which sounds on contact.

    Thanks for the info. 2011 chevy express 1500 AWD with 179k miles. Yesterday, van down shifted to 2nd gear on the highway, and did not hear any noise, other than rpm going up at that time.
    Will not shift into 3rd or 4th gear. No error codes. Will go to a Transmission shop today, b/c I don't have time or the space. I want to buy a new tall roof, extended Promaster but, it's a horrible time to buy, due to shortages.

      @@KollynJ Burnt 3rd and 4th clutches. Had it rebuilt 2 times. Both times lasted just past the warranty of 1 year. I bought a new 2023 Promaster 3500 Ext a few months ago. $57k out the door.

    Hello. I have a 96 chevy caprice.
    It went into limp mode yesterday evening.
    I Went to autozone and oriellys this morning with a check engine light and they gave the same code P1886 for bad shift solenoids.
    I changed out both and Refilled with fluid only to have the same problems.
    And after testing solenoids, they both pass tests.

    Hi Scottie. I have a 2000 model year 4WD 4l60e that came from a Tahoe. The transmission will not shift into third but instead will go from 1st to 2nd then downshift back to 1st instead of 3rd. I haven’t experienced any slipping just the weird shift pattern. I dropped the pan and the fluid is burnt. I checked the solenoids and the resistance is in range and they passed the clicking test. Could this be a lost 3-4 clutch pack?

    I have a 2000 chevy you mentioned having a ground on all 4 wires going to silonoids I only have a ground on one wire in each plug in.

    On my 2006 Subaru Forester 2.5 xt limited. I was getting on the highway today and I noticed my car revving to almost 4000 in second gear when it should have shifted like normal I had to let off the gas for it to shift. Also almost every time when I start driving my car for the day (after letting it warm up) it will shift 1 to 2 then shift to 3 early then shift back almost immediately.

    I have a 98 s10 blazer. I'm not sure if it is a 4l60e or 4l60. My question is I have all forward gears cold or normal driving conditions. But with my reverse it won't do anything until the transmission is warm. What do you think can cause this?

    I have a 2006 gmc sierra 1500 5.3. I'm getting sluggish shifts from first to second. Worse so on slower speeds or less load. Not really noticing it in tow mode. I just threw a flowmaster muffler on it and I don't know if it has anything to do with back pressure but I didn't notice it before.

    thanks that demo helped me. i was looking for something to explain how to check the solenoids. the issue is the vehicle doesnt move forwards or backwards in any gear.

      I believe you are dealing with a AOD trans if I remember correctly. That is a different beast than the transmission shown in this video. Generally if you have no movement I would start looking at the pump. Is the pump not getting fluid? Is the pump not pumping fluid? Or the transmission lines clogged? Something like that.

    Rpms run high
    Shifts down fine
    Sticks on high rpms hard to auto shift up to 2nd and 3rd; reverse is fine. If at high speeds just shoots rpms. No fuel failure

    Built my trans almost two years ago it’s 97 c1500 with 5.7 I did not replace sensors or harness they all checked good but I have a random hard 1-2 shift an it’s like my trans hits neutral in second but my band is good and I’m pretty shure I have correct pin to band play I’m thinking shift so solenoid just waning to know if I’m on the right track thanks lyndan learue

    Hey Scottie I have a 2009 Silverado 4.8 L, I was at a stop light I floored it when it turned green and maybe about a 2000 feet heard felt like a pop, or clunk noise and I let it slow down a lil and gave it gas and was still going but as soon as I stop completely at the next light would not go forward in any gear but reverse works like a champ. Please help no forward gears no check engine codes???

    One question is 20.2 okay still? It's a brand new shift solenoid that's what it tested at and my other one tested at 21.4 does that seem normal? And am I able to check pwm solenoid 2-3 solenoid and force motor with multimeter?

    Have a 2004 4l60 e..changed out the shifter shaft and now the truck acts like its stuck in 3rd or 4th but if i shift it to first manually it has power..shift back to drive and same thing engine revs up real high and truck slowly crawls forward

    Help me please, my truck is a 93 chevy Silverado k1500 it drives fine till I get to operating temp, then it will go into limp mode 2nd gear no speedo and rpms rise what is wrong I've replaced the speed sensor and tbi sensor also not sure what is wrong, some told me to clean the master plate the block plate by your hand or clen it out

    98 Yukon. 5.7L. Transmission has over 330,000 original miles. Still pulls strong. No slipping at all but after the TC locks it feels like it keeps unlocking and locking non stop between 45-65 mph. I know that's not what is happening but that's best way I can describe the problem. Im thinking the pwm solenoid is the issue and found a way to bypass which I may try to do. Any suggestions?

    i have a 07 avalanche and i have to manually shift it to get it to take gear through all the gears put a tuner on it and it's telling me that the computer is telling the trans to shift but it's not doing anything, not even staying in third it just feels like neutral in drive

    I have a 98. Trans am with transmission from a 03 Silverado . 2nd gear works , shifts into 3rd by itself . Reverse is fine . No slipping . No 4th gear . Code po753

    Hey bud, I have a 4l60e from 2007 with PWM. Driving fine, park, come back, no reverse. No first gear. No go from a stop until 2500 rpm, after its going about 20 smooth sailing. Drop shifter in 2nd, exact same result. Drop to 1 and nothing. Did a pressure test and reverse jumping like crazy on gauge. ALSO MOVING IN NEUTRAL. not much torque but it is noticeable power in neutral. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi Scottie, I have a 06 gmc sierra 2500 hd, 4L80E transmission. I have shifting issues only when towing my 4000lb. Boat up a large hill toward the top which is the steepest, then after that hill, no problem. toward top I drop in the 30 mph. Range and it won't downshift, stays in 3rd
    I got a po730(incorrect gear ratio) code many times. And 1 time I got a po757 along with the po730, could that be a shift solenoid. Or a dirt shift valve, being that it shifts fine without towing anything?

    05 silverado 4L60E 300K miles shifts poorly between 1 and 2. Going to try the Sonnax pinless accumulator. wish me luck!! (Never dropped a trans pan)

    hello from Poland Scottie , when I put the meter on shows 21 ohms and it drops to 15 ohms after a second, there will be a good solenoid a and b I have a problem, 1st and 2nd gear and reverse, but in 3rd gear it is neutral .. my saab 97x hat 198Tausend kilometer no mile

    They how's it going? I have a 98 chevy Silverado c1500. Trans went out. So I put a new use one in. Now the new one drag's at high rpm into 2nd gear and then I don't feel it going into any other gears. Replaced 1-2 and 3-4 shift solanoids. Still have the same problem. Did the transmission rest thing and still have the same problem. I also change 2 other solanoids. Still have same problem. I needed my truck for work. Need help!

    Iv been trying finishing someone else's put together I believe. 94 GMC Serria 1500 4.3l tbi 4l60e trans. K case, lockup.
    All sensors on motor have been replaced with new.
    Overhauled tbi,new flexplate,filter n fluid for trans.
    Motor with new oil pump, waterpump, intake manifold gasket ect.
    Issue is wanting to shift out way to early and when prompted with accelerator pedal seems to drop into to low of a gear then right back to 4th or overdrive to soon and repeating its self till higher speed is reached then seems fine. Am I just looking at a transmission overhaul?

    00 GMC Seria no 3rd or 4th gear 1 and 2 shift fine when its time to shift to 3rd it goes to neutral but can get to overdrive if i back off the gas and slowly press back down can get to any sugesstions

      Probably worn out quarters. The check ball in the case to the 3-4 accumulator is probably leaking.

    I have a 06 chevy trailblazer LS, it will go into reverse, 1st and 2nd no problem, but when it go into 3rd it wants to act like its in neutral and revs real high... any ideas what it could be?

    great info. I am having issues with a 2004 4l60e behind an LS 5.3 swapped into a 2006 wrangler. Novak programmed ECM and wiring harness. I drove the jeep and reverse works, 1st works but will not shift to any gear automatically. I can shift from 1st to second manually. Tested the Transmission has same voltage at fuse and trans connector. Any clue what to test next?

      @@bugsbunny4539 thanks for the reply. I have a bidirectional scan tool launch 431x. I bought because of this rig. Got her working. Turned out it was the vss installed by Novak. It was not fully seated and was not sending a signal. Tightened it down and it all works.

    I have a 2003 chevy trailblazer. It wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd. I took off the trans oil pressure switch.( the o-ring marked D3 was disfigured) As I was changing the press switch I removed the shift solenoids. When I replaced the shift solenoids I may have switched them because they are identical. Now I get all the way to 3rd gear and can't get to 4th or drive or over drive (5th). I'm thinking it could be the shift solenoids. As I said the o-ring for 3rd was broken so no loss but now I plan to replace the shift solenoids and I'll write back if it works.

    Got a 2003 silverdo replaced transmission filter and pan then immediately had engine light on. Diagnostic test showed shift solenoid error

    I have an 03 Sierra 1500 HD and when I put it into reverse most of the time it doesn’t back up at all and just revs like it’s in neutral. Sometimes it does but with little to no power very slowly. Do you have any idea what this could be?

    1997 Silverado Z71 5.7L 4L60E... ONLY when trans is warmed up (driving for 20-30 minutes at around 55mph) trans has real hard shift from 1st to 2nd and a somewhat hard shift from 2nd to 3rd, can turn engine off wait 30secs and start engine and trans shifts normally again. 3-4 is good and shifting through PRND321 is good. This only happened after towing a trailer down the highway while in D (forgot to shift into 3 while towing) was told torque converter was toasted.

    I have a 2003 Chevy S10 I taken out the valves with the spring and all that but it does not have the separator that you put in before the solenoid

    2000 Chevy K3500 6.5 diesel automatic transmission is dropping out of overdrive.I can pull over shut off truck wait a few minutes start back up and shifts fine until the next time ,it's random

    How did you know it was a check ball in the accumulator that was leaking like you said around the 5:45 mark and caused the 3-4 clutch pack to go bad? I'm having a similiar issue. 2002 s10 4.3 4x4 with 4l60e. It will shift from first to second, but not to third. The valve body and all solenoids have been replaced as well as the ecm. It temporarily shifted after replacing the ecm, but then went back to not shifting into third gear. Pulling the transmission fuse puts it in third gear "limp mode" as expected.       Only way to test the check ball is by taking the pump off and manifold off. If you drip fluid into the check ball, it should not go into the case.

    I have a 04 Silverado that has no 2nd gear no 4th gear and no reverse. It just act like it goes to neutral. No slipping or anything like that just sound like it goes to neutral. Does anyone have any suggestions

    Hey there!! 1993 k1500 4l60e in limp mode, watched this video to check my bases and rule out whatever I could. Both of my shift solenoids passed the 9v battery test, and they showed resistance anywhere from 27 ohms - 33 ohms. Do you think they could still be an issue given those numbers?? what do you think?       How was your oil pressure on the dash? Did you check the continuity in the harness? With the key on engine off I check for continuity at all of the connections. All connections should either have power or ground. So per se disconnect your shift solenoid A and check for continuity at the metal prongs on the harness. If you don't get any continuity then I would suspect that harnesses bad. What made you chase a transmission issue for a limp home mode? Did you have a code?

      @@ScottiesHobbies Nope, I did not have any code. when I was driving it one day it all of a sudden acted in neutral when I was in 3rd gear and it would only shift every once and awhile and got worse and worse until I had no 3rd gear at all, and I could only go 40mph if I manually went through 1 and 2, so I suspected transmission issue. my truck it OBD I, and I did have a service engine soon light but when I used the diagnosatics terminal to blink a code it wouldn't give me anything!!
      First, I checked transmission fluid level and smell, visually looked at the transmission and all the wiring to it and all the plugs to look for damage... then I ended up finding a wiring diagram from the PCM to the tranny, and checked all 12v wires going to the transmission with key on and off, then I checked the grounds.
      Next, I dropped the pan and found the fluid was a little milky and there was a lot of granules lining the bottom of the pan, which led me to belive a clutch pack is worn....
      I did what you suggested as well and cheked the shift solenoids for resistance with them disconnected and found they had good continuity.
      Anyways, thank you for the information, you video and reply were extremely helpful!!!! I am a broke college student so the cheapest option was spending 3 days at a pick n pull pulling a transmission with lower miles and clean fluid. Hopefully it will work!!

      @@jamesclark4544 did you ever figure out exactly what was wrong? Or just change it out with another? Cause I have a very similar situation, but my fluid was a little dark. With who ever had this truck before me I honestly don't think they did a lot of upkeep based on just a few things I've seen so far 😅 (literally put a damn bolt through the brake shoes instead of the post and spring lmao, among other things) so im hoping its just a nasty filter and fluid issue. I still gave to test my solenoids though so we will see!
      My oil pressure went all the way high the week before sonic changed the oil filter and it worked great for a few trips around town but exactly a week later I was driving and it just wouldn't go into 3rd, honestly felt like and sounded like it was in neutral. R 1ST 2ND and I drive it in od all work fine just wouldn't go up to 3rd and I never got to 4th to see if that's working or not either so idk. I also got no codes and my tran fuse in the cab is working too.

      @chasees chasers I personally haven't and my truck is currently trying hard to fight for retirement 😅 though I did a "tcm reset" and she had zero issue getting into third...... until it warned up, but then if I slammed quick on the gas she would just go into 3rd like there wasn't an issue 🤦‍♀️ but there obviously is cause I can't just be driving around slamming the gas to go into 3rd lol look up how to do that reset and try it out though, it may work for you, never know!

    Is this a procedure that can be done with transmission still in vehicle? I have 00 bravada with same trans AWD and it's slipping between 2nd and 3rd?

      On the 4wd its a little more complicated to get the pan off on a 4wd but yea... you can do this with the tranny in the vehicle.

      @@ScottiesHobbies I have a 2003 Silverado SS AWD and it just started slips when its going to shift between 1st and 2nd. RPM goes high and I let go of the gas then it shifts and I can start driving it normal. Do you know what it is?

    I have a 2001 GMC Sierra extended cab 2 wheel drive 4.8 V8 was driving good not slipping at all then all of a sudden lost drive and over drive

      Can you manually shift threw gears? Have reverse? If you have no movement at all, I'd look for blockage from a bad filter, something in the cooler lines? worst case, pump has gone bad somehow. But fluid is probably not moving if you no movement.

    I have a 2003 Chevy suburban all forward gears work but reverse only works after truck is warm and been driven a while. Anyone know why? If I try and reverse while cold I have to rev up the engine to get it to engage. Any thoughts?

    I have a 99 Tahoe with a 5.7 and 4l60e and it shifts really hard from first into 2nd it is an automatic do you think it could be these shift solenoids or the 1-2 accumulator or what...it only shifts hard from 1st into 2nd

      Really could be either or both. I would plan on getting to the 1-2 accumulator. Wile doing that I would check the shift solenoids resistance, clean the shift valves while looking for debris, check the wiring harness for continuity, and check the accumulator piston and shaft bore. You'll probably find a issue with one of those components.

    Should I replace my pwm solenoid 2-3 downshift and force motor along with shift solenoids?

      if it was mine and I had the extra money I'd get a wire harness with all the solenoids. Change it all at once. The DEX3 is getting to be $27 per gal. you don't want to be draining and filling that trans too much. Also look at the actuator. check the piston and the center hole for oblonging.

    I bought a 93 GMC yukon (2door) that i had to manually shift to get it home...1, 2, D, then overdrive once i got to the highway... my question is with your experience would that pinpoint a particular part or would testing still apply?

      It's hard to point at one thing. For sure check the harness or continuity. But it really could be any solenoid. They are not hard to test.

    I can put my 06 silverado 1500 4x4 in drive and won't go. I can put it manually in 1st it will go no issue then as long as I'm moving I can use drive normally..anyone have an idea?

    I have a 99 Silverado 1500 5.3L 2WD with 195K miles and no error code. it shift 1,2,3,4th fine. Problem is when are in 4th gear driving at 50+ miles constant for 5 minutes it pop out of gear/neutral. You can manually shift 2 gear. To reset, I need to stop and put the truck into park then speed up again. Is problem related to 3-4 shift solenoid. thanks for the help!

    Looking at buying a GMC Yukon 5.3 v8 4l60e 2wd has no 3rd or 4th but has 1st 2nd and reverse and will go into 3rd and 4th some times

      I would honestly plan for a complete rebuild. You don't know how the trans was driven. Or if how long the symptoms were occurring before they stopped driving it. Did and materials make it threw the trans? Just get it all done and know you are starting fresh with a reliable transmission with no worries of being stuck on the side of the road.

    I have a 98 Chevy c1500 with a 4.3 4l60e.
    A buddy gave me a rebuilt trans from a 95 c1500 with a 5.7. Can I bolt the 95 to my 98? Can I use the 98 torque converter? Any help is appreciated.

      Read the metal tag on your current torque converter. If the ratio and what not matches new torque converter then your good

    @Scotties Hobbies so you talk about shift valves at 2:10 how do you tell if the valves are stuck should they push out when you take your shift solenoids out? or should they stay in one place ? i have one that pushs out when i take my solenoid out and the other stays in one place almost like its stuck? any help would me grate thanks

      All your shift valves should move freely. If you have a stuck one. You need to gently free it up. Its a pain in the but sometimes.

      @@ScottiesHobbies ok thank you. woulda stuck valve cause limp mode I'm working on a 95 tahoe I have tested all my wires internal and external I have replaced my ingnishion switch and speed sensor tested my solinoids a and b only thing I found inturnaly was posably a stuck valve and a broken screen on my epc solinoid would a broken screen on a epc solenoid cause limp mode?

    I have no 3 or 4 at all. None.
    If the 3-4 clutch pack was toast,
    wouldn't it smell that way and the fluid be looking on the burnt side of red?

      When i run up to 50 in 2nd & shit to n,
      I coast with less drag
      Than 3 or 4.
      When coasting downhill at 50 in n when I pull it down to 4 or 3,,
      I can feel it drop into those gears & start slowing me down more than I was in n.

    2004 chevy Silverado LS v8. 5.3 4x4 extended cab
    I just finished the installation today 2019 Nov.6
    Ok I put everything back in place battery good
    But starter won't crank nothing I even bang the starter sparks
    I'm not sure why doesn't turn. Over
    Plus on my gears I don't see any the gears moving on my cluster
    I don't know if I have major problems with the transmission sensor switch
    Or the crankshaft
    Any suggestions
    Last time the truck will crank right up
    But the only issues I know was my gears were not working properly
    I'm trying to find the best solution
    Is power on my truck I can switch the Handel the one on the steering wheel but no sign or doesn't felt like is working
    Every time i put the key on switch ignition doesn't respond no crank !!!
    I did install a used transmission from junk yard
    Was trying to save some green bucks
    But still no crank
    Tomorrow I will try to check the starter wires or crankshaft or sensor or something there will see will 👀

    I have a 03 avalanche and it shifts into first just fine but won’t go into second .. sometimes I will drive and I will have to let it rev down to zero then it will shift to 2-4 just fine

    I have a 2005 Chevy Astro Cargovan with 200k miles. Shifts fine from 1-2, slow from 2-3, but fine 3-4 and all the downshifts are ok. Could it possibly be a bad shift solenoid? Thanks Scottie!

      @@KollynJ No, it turned out to be the 3-4 piston. So, you have to tear it apart to get to it. I just rebuilt the whole transmission.... did it myself, turned out great.

      @@freddaniali well the one I was handed down had black atf and slipping issues and debree overflowing on the magnet and pan and the filter dropped right out w the pan. So it might be scrap however I have an 05 envoy donor w a 4l60 4wd/awd Tran that could swap

    I’ve got an 04 Tahoe I put a fresh rebuilt 4l60e in it with new fluid,converter, and neutral safety switch only to find out that the reason I’ve only got 1st and reverse is cause a mouse chewed on a few wires under my fuse box and I believe shorted sumthing I’m sure it’s a long shot but has anyone got any ideas where I should start to try to fix this

    no fwd gears. happened while idling. just as i accelerated i heard a slight thump then sudden lack of momentum. tach ran but no movement. had to reverse gear out of traffic. one suggestion was chk balls could b stuck on trans plate. what say u?

      Honestly sounds like a forward sprag broke or is malfunctioning. I do see where some people in forums are saying you might have a stuck checkball in the valve body. It might be worth taking the valve body apart and making sure nothing is clogged or stuck. If you don't find a problem during that process I would say you are in for a rebuild at least.

      @@ScottiesHobbies My 4L60E solenoids click....one clicks strong the other muc weaker click. Is that sign of issue? Forgot to ohm test. . Will do first chance. Lastly, filter was gray fluid clean lil debris but very clean. When done new filter goin in. Oh 97 chev tahoe 4wd

      Shift solenoids AB about 21 ohms. About the click. One sound weaker than the other. Planning to swap A to B vice versa. The name of solenoids on opposite end of valve body?
