No way in Gods green earth that Josy would ever leave my hands if I had her! She would be my dream mule too! I doubt that she will be anything but big with her breeding. Got Maggie at about 3 years old and now at 6 I can't see over her back...probably 15-3 now. Way bigger than I thought she would be. Calm and sweet. You are doing a great job with your training of her. Well trained and trusting prevents a lot of recks down the road. Wish Mag had all those spots...but she's my dream mule no matter her color. You ride the attitude, you get lucky with the color!

This lady simultaneously radiates such competence and caring that I think I would trust my six-year-old daughter with her overnight without ever even having met her... Plus, maybe my girl would even get a free lesson in mule breaking. Just wonderful... Kudos!

Thank you so much! I can’t believe we ended up with her ❤️❤️❤️ We show her mom in this video, she was a 15.1 hand foundation bred leopard appy, although she looked more flea bitten than leopard. Her dad was a 14.3 hand gaited jack (he was a red color.) Out of 4 siblings from the same cross, Josey is the only one that came out with color ❤️ the breeder had already sold her dad when we went to look at Josey, but he still had her mom and was selling her too… we were tempted to purchase her and breed her again. But we aren’t set up for that with limited pasture. But I’m curious if she would have had more like Josey. ☺️❤️

Hey! Great question! We run them barefoot almost all the time. Occasionally I run front shoes on the white mule if we are riding in a lot of rocks. We do use a farrier, but he has been helping me learn how to trim mules hooves so I do some of our own as well and eventually will do all the trims myself ☺️
If you lean your shoulder into her just a bit just before you ask her to lift her foot, it will give her more stability and confidence, and it acts as a cue. But release the pressure as soon as you are holding her foot. It’s not ok for her to lean back.

Depending on her individually, if she seems like she is maturing than we will start her with a rider at 3. But we don’t do any steep mountain rides or long rides until they are conditioned with a rider which is usually closer to 4 if not after they turn 4. We plan to have her for her lifetime so what’s the rush ☺️❤️
Great video watching now why does it take so long to get them ready to ride or pack are all mules the same are horses harder or easier to train I've read extensively about the natives being able to just get on a horse and go thanks kray
We want to make sure they are comfortable with the process. We want them to be confident and trust us before we move on. It’s like training a dog or a child going to school, they have to learn things step by step. Kids have to learn their abc’s before they can read and spell and it takes years before they are able to write in complete paragraphs and use more complicated words… it’s the same with equines, we have to progress one step at a time so they don’t get frightened or shut down. ☺️❤️

@@kraymississippi4388 that’s one way to do it lol you can force a horse into submission and that’s how the old cowboys used to do it, rope them, snub them to a post, blindfold them, tie their legs up, saddle them and just get on and ride them out… but you can imagine that would be pretty traumatic for the horse, and not a good way to build trust and confidence in the equine. ☺️

Prowler keeps a strip of chest hair almost all summer. Its gotten less but when i first got hom i actually sent a pic to my vet asking why does my mule have 1970s sexy chest hair??? Haaa. She said its the donkey in him. Haaa. I dunno but its like upsidedown fringe. I also shave djs mane like a stegasaurus . Looks bitchin when we do mounted archery.

@@MTN_BUILT never done pistol but it looks fun except for the noise. Archery is quiet. Lots o practice on the ground . Dj figured out the game and really enjoys taking me past the targets. No reins. They start to understand. Its really a cool trust builder. I'm way out of practice but both are a really cool thing to use all the horsemanship skills for. Kinda triggers a soul memory from past warrior lives.😮😆

As we say in the video, we choose to trim our mules manes as do many mule owners. You don’t have to agree, but that’s what we do! ☺️👍🏼

It doesn’t seem fair to ride her, as she’s not large enough. To ride a horse their shoulder should at least be as tall as your shoulder. The recommended weight they can carry is 20% of their own weight. She shouldn’t carry a grown adult.
I am 71 An broke a lot of mules and you young lady are as good as I have seen you should be proud at what you have done

Wait till 4 to do real riding?
Depending on her individually, if she seems like she is maturing than we will start her with a rider at 3. But we don’t do any steep mountain rides or long rides until they are conditioned with a rider which is usually closer to 4 if not after they turn 4. We plan to have her for her lifetime so what’s the rush ☺️❤️
Great video watching now why does it take so long to get them ready to ride or pack are all mules the same are horses harder or easier to train I've read extensively about the natives being able to just get on a horse and go thanks kray
We want to make sure they are comfortable with the process. We want them to be confident and trust us before we move on. It’s like training a dog or a child going to school, they have to learn things step by step. Kids have to learn their abc’s before they can read and spell and it takes years before they are able to write in complete paragraphs and use more complicated words… it’s the same with equines, we have to progress one step at a time so they don’t get frightened or shut down. ☺️❤️

@@kraymississippi4388 that’s one way to do it lol you can force a horse into submission and that’s how the old cowboys used to do it, rope them, snub them to a post, blindfold them, tie their legs up, saddle them and just get on and ride them out… but you can imagine that would be pretty traumatic for the horse, and not a good way to build trust and confidence in the equine. ☺️

Haha I know you’re not!☺️ Yeah some people use force still today, there are SO many methods to training equines just like there are dogs. We want to be our equines partners and we also want to make sure they feel comfortable and confident ☺️👍🏼

Prowler keeps a strip of chest hair almost all summer. Its gotten less but when i first got hom i actually sent a pic to my vet asking why does my mule have 1970s sexy chest hair??? Haaa. She said its the donkey in him. Haaa. I dunno but its like upsidedown fringe.
I also shave djs mane like a stegasaurus . Looks bitchin when we do mounted archery.

@@MTN_BUILT never done pistol but it looks fun except for the noise. Archery is quiet. Lots o practice on the ground . Dj figured out the game and really enjoys taking me past the targets. No reins. They start to understand. Its really a cool trust builder. I'm way out of practice but both are a really cool thing to use all the horsemanship skills for. Kinda triggers a soul memory from past warrior lives.😮😆
@@jennyrosd2003 that’s awesome!! I’ve shot compound a bunch but only trad once, I loved it! We’ve been talking about getting some trad bows for fun and I’m already planning on trying to shoot off of Clyde with it haha I bet he wouldn’t care!

@@MTN_BUILT yeah I was surprised when I noticed he was cluing in . Cuz I'm thinking of something completely different and he has to do his part. He also likes when I hit the target cuz I say good boy. Haaa and he has to stop after a few shots and stand to wait for me to gather arrows. Just all sorts of cool stuff they learn to do with a reason behind it. So much stuff we do has no immediate reason. I think its kinda magic. They are so intelligent and like to be part of it.

@@johannakuster1564 protection from what? Bugs? I could see that being a point if we had cut her tail. Mules don’t grow much of a mane to begin with, especially an appaloosa crossed one. As we say in the video, we choose to trim our mules manes as do many mule owners. You don’t have to agree, but that’s what we do! ☺️👍🏼

It doesn’t seem fair to ride her, as she’s not large enough. To ride a horse their shoulder should at least be as tall as your shoulder. The recommended weight they can carry is 20% of their own weight. She shouldn’t carry a grown adult.
