      That refinished Zack Wild guitar reminds me a little of the natural you have or had. I think it looks good like it is now but I'm sure he lowered its value. You can still see some of the old finish from what I've seen where the neck meets the body.

    • @clarkbabin9799

      From far off the PRS looks like it has a display showing the peeks and lows through out the octaves. I would've been more impressed with the 335 if the area that was not so flamed and active would've been on the same side together. Being the top lacking flame near the f hole so when you looked at the back of would be right behind the less figured part of the top.

Looking at the hardware the original paint job wouldn't have faired well so that guy decided to strip it off the the natural wood underneath looks good. Instead of repainting the bullseye and people claiming it is a fake he just made it into a natural finish guitar.

  • @garagebandvibes1523
    @garagebandvibes1523 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Look man, guitars aren't usually meant to be stored away, never played in a case somewhere. The whole purpose of a guitar is to play it and use it. Why can't you respect someone - who clearly loved that instrument and played it, and adjusted it to his specs, what if they don't give a crap about the guitar's resale value and collectable status, and at the time when he bought it, those guitars probably weren't even rare anyway. And plus, I've seen some way worse mods done to vintage Gibsons. It's not sacrilegious, It's just a bloody guitar at the end of the day.

    I’m willing to place money that the refinish came due finish damage or wear that made it a point of no return.
    Chances are that guitar sounds amazing and goes into that realm of “looks like hell, but sounds like heaven.”
    The fact they went with jumble frets and such tells me they wore the old ones out and didn’t want that happening ever again.
    Look at the high frets, that thing has been shredded on. Bet you if you snagged it and played it you’d fall in love and not care one bit about what it was.

    He could have sold it and spec'd out his own CS or Murphy Lab LP. I suppose if he really loved the guitar but was weary of the finish and electronics, it makes sense to him. He didn't cheap out on it and even maintained the COA, so there is that. It is worth 3 Gs or so.

    • @LuckyStrike01
      @LuckyStrike01 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah you’re right it’s gold with different things mixed in like copper or palladium and that makes it react and reflect differently. You can get it with like a red tint or green or silver etc based on what’s added to the gold. Gold leaf is 23 or 24 karat so very soft and won’t oxidize but with streaks of another metal you get the shine of the gold with less of a yellow hue that slightly changes with materials it’s on. Pretty cool stuff. To use similar stuff with a silver color you’d use palladium because silver oxidizes even if you seal over it on a car door. Variegated leaf is a different animal to apply as well but like with anything the more you use it the better you can apply it. Looks great on glass especially or with a pattern burnished in.

    335 Tops.... I have a sunburst '95. It has a 'quilt top' with a small dead spot. It used to bug me. Since it can score an easy 97% (especially the 60s profile neck), I don't mind the dead spot anymore. I don't play it much, but it sure is nice to look at!

      The laminate top, back and sides?
      That is how they have been built since the very first ones in the late 1950s.
      To produce/build those like a carved arch top would more than double the price!
      Even the Gibson ES-175 that was first produced in 1949 uses the same laminate construction design for the top, back and sides.

    • @johns6095

    • @hughjarrse
      @hughjarrse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@johns6095 I find it strange you don't like laminated tops, have you heard the music and tones that have come from laminated top 335s in the last 65yrs? Carved tops make no sense and a 335, all the hardware pickups and controls mounted on the top would negate any "superior" tone a carved top might have, also carved top acoustic jazz guitars wouldn't have a maple top anyway,

    • @hkguitar1984
      @hkguitar1984 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@johns6095 I'm right there with you, I'm not a fan either. If I ever feel the need to own an ES style guitar I would instead purchase a Japan made Tokai as their price more closely reflects the construction method.
      I totally understand the Gibson premium costs, and I own a few Gibson and am very pleased with them. I just wouldn't personally pay extra for a laminate construction Gibson.
