I’m currently completing my senior preceptorship on an L&D and just accepted my first nursing job as a new grad RN on an L&D unit! So glad I found your channel💕
You can do it! i'll bring more content on nursing soon . L&D was such a great place to start for me , gave me a lot of foundation but never get stuck in one specialty if you can help it . venture out do PRN from time to time on other floors . get a variety in nursing so you're able to go and do anything ❤️
@@princess287love Hey! At my school we had to rank our top 5 preceptorship specialties and there was a box where you could add additional comments about why you wanted a specific speciality. I just talked about my passion for women health, my eagerness to learn, my desire to become a nurse midwife and I had a an A in my maternity course which I think helped (😂).
Thank you for sharing when the man is not supportive. That needs to be talked about more often! I definitely was not supported while I was giving birth but the nurses changed that for me and I’ll never forget how amazing my nurses were.
it is very important to talk about . having a baby was the hardest thing i've been through. anxiety overcomes you and you feel alone even with 5+ people in the room . having a great nurse who listens and understand is the best feeling
Youngest granddaughter is a L&D nurse at a Major Houston hospital. She also delivered her son and fellow nurses decorated her room. When her son turned one she had a major blow-out and all nurses who were not working came to celebrate his birthday.
Hi! I am a new(ish) grad who just started working as a L&D nurse in September. I relate so much to your video! It's also so refreshing to see another WOC working in L&D! You seem like a great nurse and I hope to grow into my role with the same confidence and competence down the road!
Thank you!!! I was just offered either med surg or L and D and you’re confirming my choice to go into L and D! I appreciate your honesty on everything.
I love this! I'm an LVN going to school for my RN pre reqs rite now so i could get into a bridge program. I became a nurse because I had my daughter a few months after I turned 16 and had no support the entire time I was pregnant... I moved out on my own and started working my butt off making crap money trying to get by... and by the time I went to school I had 2 small children under 3 and was being cheated on and no vehicle because it was impounded by my ex... during both hospital stays for my labors I had 2 of the most amazing nurses and I wanted to make people feel the way they made me feel like I was a momma bear and I can do it and my life is my own and I'm amazing and even if no one else supported me they were there even for that short time and I just love your video your so positive you make me wanna work harder... things have been tough on me I have 4 kids now and have been trying for that RN so I could get into labor and delivery this is my 2nd attempt at my pre reqs and 11 years since LVN school... like I said theres just something about how positive you are. Thank you.
Ashley Ashley i love to hear labor stories that are great and amazing for mothers . i've become friends with so many women that i've labored. it's the best thing ever to witness life especially with everything going on these days . thank you for your service as an LVN. i promise what's meant for you will be for you . get it out the way and get that RN so your kids can enjoy you . they will understand in the end 🤍🤍🤍
I’m a current GYN nurse, and I’m transitioning to the OB side of nursing. I love women’s health, so I’m super excited to see what comes. This video calmed the few nerves I have about the change.
Nyresha, thank you so much for being so informative and honest. I’m starting college in January to become a L&D/NICU nurse. I can’t even begin to imagine how rewarding it must be to have that opportunity to help patients though the laboring process as well as witness it all happen. I love building strong bonds with people and think I would absolutely love it despite of the emotional stress that can come with it. Like you said there’s always going to be those things you don’t like about any job. Definitely sounds like the pro’s outweigh the cons! 😊💕
After having two amazing deliveries I am confident that the l&d nurses really make the experience. I will never forget their names and faces and the moments I had with them. I am actually in nursing school right now and can't wait for mother/baby quarter! Definitely a specialty I would like to consider.
Just coming up to 30 years in Women"s Health (25 in L&D). I am done. Compassion fatigue to the max. No one really talks about it in our area. It's usually ER or ICU. I loved L&D for the first 25 years. I felt like I really made a difference to women"s lives. Watching variables for hours. Dealing w moms w ZERO pain tolerance. Crazy family members and unrealistic expectations. We just started Electronic charting. That new dynamic has made up my mind and pushed my retirement up 3 years early. Now it is just anxiety, depression and dread about going to work. And yes, Cord prolapse or abruption 30 min before the end of your shift, is just awful. It is unpredictable, uncontrolled and real" life and death" ,stuff. But I would say "Go for it!"
congrats on the early retirement, i can't wait until it's my turn lol. and thank you so much for all you've done in the women's health community 🤍🤍🤍. it is very stressful and daunting on one human being working in any part of nursing but we do it because we love to see people happy / better .
whenever i think of l&d i always think about it being happy medicine but i honestly forgot about the fact that death still happens even on those units. that would honestly be so heartbreaking. as much as i think i would love delivering babies idk if i could do it going thru baby and mom deaths no matter how rare it is :(
death STILL HAPPENS and it's a hard pill to swallow, it's scary and it's sad . but ultimately this was one of my favorite and most prized positions that i held as a registered nurse.
I’ve watched a couple of L&D youtubers and something that I’ve noticed is that you guys all agree that you play the role of multiple different types of nurses. But none of you guys mention feeling like a psych nurse. I’m not an OB nurse but when I was in my OB rotation in school I felt like my nurses applied a lot of psych principals. Was this just unique to my experience or is this just something that you guys just didn’t think of? Either way OB rocks! Literally have yet to meet an OB nurse who isn’t amazing!!
i definitely felt like a psych nurse as a L&D nurse, it's very important to understand that you won't be in just ONE role when getting into L&D / OB . i know people love the thought of working with women and babies but there's so much more to it . thanks for mentioning the concept of the experience of this speciality . it hers real 💪🏾
there's a lot of hands in the pot. one thing i can say when working in L&D no nurse was ever really alone with the patient, if you needed help everyone came running, sometimes i'd have to comfort mom while things were happening emergently or vice versa
I want to be a night shift labor and delivery nurse when I finish nursing school 💕 can a FNP work in labor and delivery?? I plan to get my FNP one day and I only want to work with babies..
T kay you'd have to be a midwife that's an advanced practice registered nurse. FNPs don't deliver babies. Women's Health NPs deal with women in their pregnancy sometimes but mostly just promote women's health
Simone Wade lol. i honestly can't even tell you the name, i got it about a year back from my local beauty supply store . it's still good after a nice wash 😂😂😂
can someone explain what the L&D nurses role is in the delivery room? what do they do? also who else is in the delivery room and what roles do they have/ how are their roles different? like is there nurse and a doctor, or a np?
Please answer! Lol. I just finished my OB clinical (day 1) and some of the girls are saying that they get sent home against their will and don’t get to complete their 36 hours/week. Is/was this true for you?
postpartum is very chill & relaxed , i've never worked there but have been floated to help. postpartum the baby is now the focus. in L&D it's the mom & safe delivery. so one in the same but certain tests that babies need i would have to be taught. i'm truly an L&D girl lol. hope that answered your question 💕💕
There are so many black labor and delivery nurses, I love this black power
Anjellica H yesssss ✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾

labor and delivery was my baby... however i wanted to experience management before becoming an FNP so i left the bedside 😩😩😩 i hope you love it
