Apparently the game director at Capcom said they wanted to make the game less scary because many casual gamers found RE 7 too frightening and off putting to play. From what you're saying Mack it sounds like Capcom have made the game too safe and full of dumbed down casual horror for the casuals.
Capcom should just make a difficulty option that says I am a casual gamer/pussy. Removing what was good in your game is beyond stupid, just add settings option to make it less scary is the correct approach.
well it happened to me when I played doom 3 for the first time, I needed a stress break every 45 minutes. The sound in that game was scary as fuck and the fact that you had to hold the torch instead of the gun really kept me stressed.
That's relative I guess, I didn't find RE 7 scary, just boring with scripted nonsense. Could not get myself to keep playing it too far. Sadly I bought it in deep sale and still felt ripped off.
Well then your missing out. I just finished it & It’s easily one of the prettiest & most ambitious RE game to come out this year. This guy has no clue what he’s talking about
Main Character Franchise Syndrome. There's probably people playing this who've never played RE before, just because The Tall Lady became a meme, so Ethan has to act scared and wimpy as the audience would (or should)
I mean several years have passed since re7, I know he's been military trained but has he been fighting BOWs since then? Plus, re7 was much smaller in scale and had way less shit going on
He's been living a peaceful life with Mia for 3 years since RE7. Then one day Chris busts in, kills Mia, and kidnaps Ethan and his baby. Before he can even come to terms with that going on, he wakes up in a car wreck and makes his way to the village. He barely catches a glimpse of the monsters before he's pulled down there by one and sees the pile of dead bodies. Yeah man what a pussy
60 seconds from a 12 hour game, oh no. A whole one hour sequence that is up there with some of the best horror moments in modern video games? He didn’t bother mentioning that.

I played the game blind . I didnt look at reviews or anything. I didnt want anyone trying to make my mind up for me. I really enjoyed it. Very good game.
Worst thing is, there is no tension. There are no stakes, if you as a player never know if the character is seriously hurt, or if he will heal anyway in 10 seconds because apparently it doesn't matter if he looses limbs or parts of his body get ripped into shreds. You can't release a horror game like this. There is no horror. No tension. Nothing at stake. And saddest of all, it means there is no atmosphere. Plus, the character is completely out of touch with the setting, his writing and VO doesn't fit his actions. Additionally they tried to include like 10 different themes, but they don't finish a single one of them. This is a patchwork gone wrong, sadly. What were they thinking.
Marking everything with yellow is both insulting and immersion breaking. In the Moreau section, there's literally an arrow pointing up to a lock that you have to shoot. Brilliant game design.........
Fanbases are dumb, all of them. In a parallel universe where Capcom listened to survival horror nerds and made 30 RE games with tank controls that takes place in mansions and police stations, the fanbase is complaining they don't innovate and keep releasing the same game over and over again. Survival horror franchises died or became action oriented for a reason. There's a limit to how many times you can put an average Joe in a foggy town or a mansion that looks the same as the previous 3 games but the moment you tweak the formula just a bit the nerds start throwing tantrums.
@@Ocean5ix "takes place in mansions and police stations" thats exactly what Re7/re8 is but with retardedd vampire/lycan monsters, pathetic puzzles and a very boring main character. So maybe they should have listened to their original nerds instead of the zoomer nerds?

What it is old boy, is its us older gamer who had the privilege to play classic games back in the day, we aren't who they cater to anymore. Gamers today are shallow and have no knowledge of substance or quality. Its all about how good it looks and that about it. Its sad.

Just to mention some great games. Why would you spend £50 on this game that's made for 10 year old kids, last for about 10 hours when you can get all them for half the price and last for hundreds of hours.
I had to quit out of the demo when there weren't proper DS4 prompts on Steam. There's a mod for the full game because of course there is. If a game releases on ps4/ps5, and clearly pc gamers use that controller, why not just throw in what's already programmed? Seeing YXBA is aggravating.

They wanted to create a sequel ‘that anybody can feel comfortable jumping in and playing’…..’so that players aren’t in constant fear’. Ahh bless.£50 my arse.
Its funny because I read that interview too and couldn't help but remember Fatal Frame received complaints about it being "too scary" and instead of dialing back the scares they double-down in fatal frame 2. This is was for max profit not for the well intention of reaching a wider audience, and even if that is the intention its still deliberately motivated for maximizing profit.
It’s sad really. Gaming has peaked. There’s a reason why post 2014 it went down hard. Microtransactions and suits took over the industry. It will never be the same again.
The problem, as you have pointed out before is, the damn bar is just set so low now. It's amazing what gamers eat up and love. I am waiting for the day when a company sells a game trailer for $60 and gamers call it game of the year. They were smart to advertise old big boobs. It got basement dwellers jerking so hard, it sold copies.
Just got out the castle after 3.5 hours, shocked at the lack of atmosphere and there's so many cut scenes but what is shocking is its actually easy and there's not much skill involved
maybe on normal, but most games these days require no skill on normal mode. normal has become the new easy, because nobody wants to admit they need easy mode so developers drastically nerfed normal to keep them from complaining. this is why those of us who enjoy a challenge never play any modern games on easy, we usually start on hard and if there's a very hard we'll do that on the 2nd playthrough. re village is pretty challenging on hard, and village of shadows is just insanely difficult.
That's what I read, too. It's a shame (and quite obvious) that these alleged "gamers" are probably the 12 year olds who shouldn't be playing M-rated games in the first place, but WTF does Capcom (or any gaming company) care when it comes to increasing sales, right?
It's just like how CDPR claimed that they shortened the campaign of Cyberpunk 2077 because people complained Witcher 3 was too long and some people didn't finish it. It's like who the F*** cares what those people think! these games aren't meant for short ass attention span, can't handle real horror asses. they're the minority!
I gotta say...people do seem to make Horror Genre into a standard fps shoot-go next area-boss-repeat-cutscenes Which is why I kinda sceptical on Horror games...people call them horror for just the looks or jumpscares isn't really a horror game..it looked more like Tom&Jerry Hide&Seek kind of thing with lots of puzzles & maze of hidings🙄

At first they didn't have the note in the game but then they concluded that having the solution outside the window was too much thinking outside the box/room. So they added that note.
@@leto1178 Dunno, AFAIK games have a couple of methods to show the solution for a pass or key (the usual search for a note or search in the environment...having too look at the window is nothing outside of the box if you played more than three games of this kind), being in a small room doesnt help either. Imagine those people playing a classic point and click adventure then...true horror. RE puzzles never were too hard, i get it (specially if you compare them with..dunno Silent Hill, that's outside of the box)...but this one is borderline insulting.

The game runs beautifully for me in ultrawide. I’ve had a blast playing the game. There are some stinker puzzles when the game spoonfeeds you but a couple of the puzzles were just right for RE. It’s a fantastical adventure if a bit of a casual experience. Great fun.

10:10 The chase scenes were exactly the same in RE:2 and 3, where the save room is.. A safe room. As it should be. Imagine saving, and having a giant murderous Amazonian vampire gnaw your face off 2 seconds after you load the game. 11:00 Again, exactly the same as in 2 and 3, where you can only bind 4 weapons. Hardly any games nowadays take full advantage of PC capabilities.
Ok so the performance problem isn't just me. I play on the same settings you do on my RTX 2060 to get the frames to be acceptable, and even then many cutscenes lag behind on audio noticeably with a slo-mo feel to the framerate. I thought I couldn't max it out due to my 6GB VRAM limitation, but from what I am seeing, you have to run it at the same settings I do on your OP GPU to allow the game to be playable. This is something else. Did they allow a higher bin of features to slip through the graphics settings that the console port wasn't designed to efficiently handle?
Did Ethan get super human powers from Re7? He still got his hand cut off before getting powers. It's super unclear why he isn't dead other than him wearing plot armor.
I don’t understand how people played RE 7 and missed the whole point that Ethan was infected in that game. He reattached his hand and hallucinating Eveline at the end of RE7. And people complain how game start to force fed info for numbskull player.
Like many other Re fans, I've been playing RE since the 1996 and the series has been one of my all time favourites ever since. "RE village" unfortunately was quite a let down on so many levels... I pretty much fully agree wit everything said in this review. RE Village is basically the same as when your parents you to say to "I'm not angry with you, just dissapointed..."
I don't understand this game. Basically every antagonis has a chance to kill you, but continuously puts you in a situation to escape. It's like watching a bond film
@Strexxin the fact you’re completely fine with another generic concept in horror games and movies because it “happens a lot” shows that game companies, don’t need to be original to please you. I’m guessing the people giving this positive reviews have the same mindset as you.
I love watching the other reviews then watching yours. It's a great way to contrast and compare. As well as seeing who's really being honest with us. Thanks home 👍
The irony..lol if Mack was being honest, he'd award this game a positive review and tell you how fun it is, praise the additional combat improvements over the awful RE7 and not prpduced a 14 minute comedy skit slagging off other reviews, that ironically do a far better job on this ond
@@MorrisseyMuse na bruh even dream cast guy had issues with the game. If you can't scare that dude then you're "horror " game is a failure. You're mistreating a good technical game. For a good game of the genre. This is not a true re game homie.
If your character can easily recover from danger, it becomes nothing more than a health point system. The player needs more meaningful consequence than that in order to be scared. Supply and demand, or rarity, can be used to allow for recovery to an extent without ruining the experiences of risks and danger...But, it is better in a horror game to have mortal danger, because the possibility of loss is part of what is so scary. That red plank thing is ridiculous. The player isn't supposed to be shown where the danger is! They are supposed to use their own intelligence in a game like this. Choreographing danger to the player ruins the atmosphere, the immersion, and eliminates almost all risk. That fish monsters should be chasing the player along the entire course of that plank level area, smashing the large platforms, etc.
I get you want to rant against AAA gaming and often they shit the bed (most of the time these days). But this a good game. I have never seen a Transylvania setting so wonderfully realized and as a horror fan, it was great to explore.
I don't think he is shitting against Triple A gaming per se. He is shitting against everything he doesn't like or rather thinks it's not worth the price. Triple A games being much more pricier than indie games and having much more hype surrounding them, naturally, they are more often critisized. In regards to Resi 8, I agree. The level design is great sometimes and the set pieces are gorgeous. Sadly, that's the only thing the game got right, in my opinion. But to each his own. :)
Yeah, and his obsession with twisting a jump scare moment into justification for him to shit on the puzzling is disingenuous at best, twatty at worst. I played this game on Xbox Series X and it ran beautifully throughout, so what we're left with here is a review full of Mack's own agenda and criticisms based on the fact his PC is wank. I absolutely loved this game, but even if I didn't I'd be able to pick apart what he's saying as just fake news.
Look a simp, a wild one at it...- its disgusting because Capcom made it clear that this game is targeted for literal none gamers that complain over the smallest crap like the blue check marks on twatter, so you saying that this is good...really speaks volume on what you think is an actual good game lmao, i'm wheezing because this isn't a scary game at all Capcom already also established that they couldn't make it scary because a group minority (pussies) complained about reboot r7 being too scary when it wasn't xD.
@Strexxin I agree that this isn't as scary as 7, but the statement (WAB's not the only one making it) that it isn't scary at all along with "and I scare really easily!" makes the eyes roll just a bit
Agree with all these points. The problem with puzzles nowadays is that if people don’t get them first time they just give up and google the answer online. So it’s almost a waste of time to make them complicated. Sad but true.
My problem with the RE puzzles was never that they were complicated, but that in the end, most of them were nothing else than fetch quests and that most of them do not make _any_ sense even within this universe. 1.284 steps and 392 items in order to open a door in a _police station_ that is supposed to be passed by dozens of people every day? With the items having arcane symbols on them and the puzzles making references to things that happen(ed) in places and to people with zero association with this or _any_ police station? Hmhm...
@Furzkampfbomber Well, it wouldn't make interesting gameplay if it was just, walk and shoot. Also, the previous games explained the reasoning for the puzzles' existence. In RE1, the mansion was made to be a deliberate death trap to guard and hide the lab that was making the tryant. In RE2, the police station was originally an art museum that was renovated by Chief Iron's, who was an Umbrella lackey that deliberately created the puzzles in the police station to undermine the police and ensure he kept ammo and medical resources for himself if an outbreak occurred.
Hey now, I'm not here to start anything with anyone. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that. I've enjoyed Mack's content for years, and that's never been based on his or any of his viewer's opinions. He's just a solid content creator with a great personality.
You mean journalists not actual gamers, most actual gamers would love re7s horror, it’s journalists that don’t because they complain about everything because there bad at games, because them now re8 got dumbed down which is a shame.

You'd be surprised how many fans trash the remakes because their nothing like the first remake lmao

@@MorrisseyMuse na bruh even dream cast guy had issues with the game. If you can't scare that dude then you're "horror " game is a failure. You're mistreating a good technical game. For a good game of the genre. This is not a true re game homie.
Waited for this exact review. Thanks
It may not be worth a buy but your always worth a view.
@@THRILLEX I can tell you are just a upset casual baby gamer...yeesh
Yes!! Been waiting for this Mac daddy!!
The big McD
C'mon Mack, the trader room has garlic hanging in it, it's immersive (;
@Strexxin She isnt a real vampire though. She has a blood disease and needs blood to stay alive so garlic does nothing.
The game didn't scare you? At all? Not even a certain part in the doll manor? Hmmm...
So true.
Last good Resident Evil game was 4 .... after that, the series went downhill...
Why did the notification of this video make me burst out laughing 😂
I'm enjoying it quite a bit actually.
I'd play re2 remake or any other resident evil game over this anyday. If you enjoying that then your easily please or blinded by a vampire woman
@@JP_LDN582 Neat, thanks for your opinion.
Me too. People on this channel just love to shit rules.
This channel is basically satire at this point. He’s unable to approach any review without an extreme bias.
Hey now, I'm not here to start anything with anyone. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I respect that. I've enjoyed Mack's content for years, and that's never been based on his or any of his viewer's opinions. He's just a solid content creator with a great personality.
Dev's said that RE7 was too scary for some players to play so they made it,...well boring
You mean journalists not actual gamers, most actual gamers would love re7s horror, it’s journalists that don’t because they complain about everything because there bad at games, because them now re8 got dumbed down which is a shame.
This is more Van Helsing game than Resident Evil, there is no virus here, no zombies, no characters from series ( besides Chris but he is only one mission Rambo style at the end )
Yes, there is a virus, weren't you paying attention?
@@samsherrington7423 this mud from res 7 yes, but this is shown only at the end in last mission, whole vampire/werewolf/steampunk shit from whole game dont even match - but shooting was ok :p
Mr. X couldn't go in safe rooms either.
Thank God
I feel like he looks for shit to cry about
@@elJossu That's the gimmick, no need to make clickbait thumbnails and titles when everyone just knows that's what you do
Every time before buying a game I always watch you because even though the game looks and sounds good before playing it there are so many problems. I remember buying the division 1 and watched you before I bought it, I though “nah it still looks good what are you saying”. Maybe 4 hours in I was so disappointed and regretted buying it! You are the man bro!! You have saved me from buying so many “popular” games that turns out to be disappointing. Watch dogs legion was on my list but I had to throw it away after watching your review. I’m turning down REV now :D.
I completely disagree with almost everything you said about this game. But I absolutely love your videos lol 😆. I love this game so far
He haven't play old RE's, he dislikes 7. He prises remake of 2 due to it's graphics while hateing 7, 3 and 8(same RE Engine). It's just sad that lot of people here haven't got their own brains and will skip completly good game cause of this review
@@Denethill yeah I've played all the main line series games except for 5 and 6. I've loved them all
@@tedahwooga same mate. 5 and 6 waits for me having someone to go with through them. I'm on horror side of fanbase
So the game takes place in Romania but everyone has an American accent LMAO
Yeah... because accents have always been insanely accurate in video games, ESPECIALLY in the Resident Evil series lmao
"Dead body?... Wait there's more." LMAO mate that is pure satire
Got to admit if anything this game made me want to play RE 2, remake, and holy fuck that game is atmospheric.
@Mable's Fatal Fable It did alot right but for me it changed way too much.
I got so anoyed by the roaming Mr.X, i could not enjoy the atmosphere most of the time.
Then this complete trash Chapter with Ada with fucking wallhack "puzzles"? and of coruse again Mr.X.
Then a scripted chase scene... by the Alligator.
And after wandering around for an hour in the fucking Sewers i dropped the Game.
And RE4 isnt a Horror Game, its pure action and does it alot better then the Titles after it.
So iam all for a RE4 Remake, but do it like the RE1 Remake, stay close to the original.
Re2 remake was a fluke just like re4, just wait until they remove most of the bosses, enemy types and areas in re4, people will be pissed
RE2 remake was zzzzzz I much prefer the gameplay loop of RE4 and RE8. It was also less than half the length of RE8 and RE4. Sorry, I just prefer action over your boring "atmosphere" that you're somehow experiencing looking at a computer screen LOL
@@thevomit5851 That;s fair I suppose just that 4 and 2 are two different styles 2 is a classic Survival Horror Experience with the feel of a old Romero Zombie Film. While Resident Evil 4 is a Action game with it feeling like a Action Movie.
this is the first review I see where someone can actually aim and hit their targets. Everyone is complaining it takes too many bullets to kill anything, well ya.....if you miss more than half your bullets then yes.
I mean he is playing with a mouse. The gunplay on console is a travesty, or at least it was in the demo.
While you were struggling with this trash I kept on playing Blade of Agony. Great fun. Thanks for covering that Mack.
Blades of Agony is riveting gameplay!
This is why I follow your channel, you're not afraid of giving your opinion in a world where everyone gotta love what everyone loves. As someone who adored Resident Evil 8 and as a diehard fan of these games since my childhood, I completely understand all of the points you've made, especially about the obvious puzzles, I'd say when it comes to that, to me I never found the puzzles in Resident Evil games to be all fantastic, same with the boss fights, but it all comes to give the players optional stuff to do. This game kinda fails when it comes to giving obvious clues about the solutions, on the window puzzle we already have seen the numbers so I don't understand why they added the note xD. Good video as always.
I just don't agree at all. Right in the beginning he starts claiming that it doesn't graphically look very good LMAO. Resident evil 2 fucking blows in comparison imo. So many unique areas vs waking around a police station for 8 hours.
