    The ftr is my first bike and I absolutely love it 💪. Such a unique bike, I can't imagine riding anything else honestly. Don't want a cruiser or crotch rocket, the muscle bike with comfortable stance is next level. Already added a full exhaust and tune and it truly feels like an old school muscle car into a bike. What a beauty.

The FTR can be a monster if you want it to be but like any other bike if you ride with common sense you'll be just fine. It's a very predictable bike especially after the tune. Stop light to stop light is a blast and a few pulls on the interstate gets a big smile on my face, it accelerates fast as hell but . I have a wife and kids so I can't be stupid on the thing. @@Killer12340000 I ride the heck outta my '19 FTR. It does a lotta things really well. I put Pirelli Angel GT IIs on it and it's a different machine. She hugs the rode now. I've seen ppl drop knees on Continental Road Attacks and my Pirelli GTs but I don't have the balls to drop a knee on her quite yet. Gotta get some frame sliders first. 😅
      Had to replace sprockets, chain, rear brake, and rear tire at 5,000 miles. I wasn't doing proper chain maintenance and was riding her the way she was meant to be rode so I fucked my rear sprocket.
      I will say, comfort wasn't a high priority in her design. She's AWESOME up to an hour in the saddle. Any more than an hour and your butt is gonna start arguing loudly with you, especially if you're a heavyweight, like me. But honestly, I doubt you'd find a more capable go anywhere, do anything really well bike as good as the FTR.

      The ftr is really really fast. It’s also got a hell of a lot of torque at low rpm and requires a steady hand. A whiskey throttle would definitely not end well. I wouldn’t suggest it if you’re that new. I rode a demo for like ten minutes and wanted to see what it would do. My everyday is a 79 Cb750k making about 85hp and this thing had me puckered lol. It feels like you’re hanging out over the front of the bike and it pulls like mad right from a stop. Ergos are pretty aggressive imo; I couldn’t spend much time on one. You MIGHT be alright unless you turn the traction control off. Demo riders were instructed not to for any reason. Many riders have looped them before leaving the parking lot. But with a 1200 twin the low end torque is high and the throttle touchy.

      i'd say he completely missed the mark on what riders would be crossshopping: 1200 monster S, R-nine T, thruxton R/S and for the budget minded a xsr900 or kawa900rs (the only one in the video). Power-to-weight ratio is not really the factor as much as the style and riding experience. Modern tech, retro styling, great sounds and gobs of torque. Farily simple recipe really, and with the '22 model the FTR jumps to the top of the list.

    Nice.. I have a 2019 ftr base model. I agree with your synopsis..
    I like the ftr its fun and keeps you on your toes riding it quickly .. It feels playfull like a super motard untill you start riding it quickly and its weight and wheel base reminds you of its limitations.. But if your not trying to compare times or against others then on It's own it is a joy to have a blast on.
    Ps i swapped out the tyres to avon trailrider to keep the off road look but nice on road profiles for lean angles , a big improvement ( Dunlop dt3 r are bit dangerous in my opinion , but also fun trying spin them up out of corners- its just 3 x they did when i wasnt trying , never has this happened on my other bikes (Over 30 years or riding,) with no real warning. So i got rid of them at 2700km). Conti and Pirelli make good tyres options too. Tkc70 may have been good with rear center solid tread. My leading edge of tread on the avons shows wear after 250km , i specifically bought them for softest in class compounds .. Always a trade off aye.
    The American muscle car analogy is perfect.. Strangely ive never been into them but until you try it you dont know what your missing.

    • @someguyontheinternet7165
      @someguyontheinternet7165 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Give it a year or two and that'll fade. The 07 is IMO all the motorcycle any street rider needs. Its an awesome machine that you could enjoy the rest of your motorcycling career. Punchy and playful.
      That said I think Yam made the FTR sound scarier than it is. IMO, if you're not trying to find the limits of cornering grip, the FTR is actually more approachable than the MT09. Sure the tires are trash and its heavier, but the brakes have more feel and the throttle/suspension/chassis are all better. Get comfortable with what you've got and when you're ready start trying any bike you get a chance to swing a leg over.

      @@David-fd6db I would say the Buell is a beast that wants to go, and go hard. The ftr feels more like an excited dog that can easily keep up if it wants to.
      I'd say you'd have to "push" the ftr a bit more in corners, but only a little bit. It kind of reminds me of a classic bmw-gs handling. When people say the Ftr is bad in corners I roll my eyes.
      The one thing I don't like about the ftr is I burnt my right boot on the exhaust, but that might be my big feet. Its right next to the brake lever. Feels like it could use some protection. The exhaust is also very hot on the thighs, but the buell used to lick my thighs as well, so... :)
      I liked working on the Ftr a lot more as well, but that might just be because it was new. maintenance wise.
      Ow, and also the Ftr has this electronic throttle (instead of cable), so the response is a little weird that might need some focus at first.
      Also, if your ftr throttle does not respond like it used to: its worth trying the reset procedure (ask at a dealership; they''ll show you).
      The one thing I'd change is some luggage racks or something, but Indian does not make it very easy (Unless you have money aplenty). So a long trip might not be great.

    I have an FTR...I've had nothing but problems out of it and Polaris absolutely sucks with their "support"... It's been mechanically totaled many times over based on replaced parts and labor costs but they refuse to replace it even though its obviously a lemon.

    Hey @Yammie, Im close to getting my first bike and I was looking at the FTR because it fits my height, 6'5", better but after this I worry I might to green for it. Am I correct in that assumption?

    Wish they would make a 750or 900 road version. I test rode the 1200 it was great but frustrating. I couldn't use the power anywhere, took some of the fun away. Like having a hot girlfriend who your not allowed to f*ck.

    I 100% plan to off-road my FTR. I’ve been looking at wheel setups very intently with the intent to hit some trails. Probably just going to go with some 80/20 or 70/30 tires for now as the DT3-Rs really do suck. They’re good for hooning and that’s about it. The rear is about ready to go as well at 4100 miles. However, the bike is more than capable with its clearance and 5.9” of travel. No, it’s not some long travel suspension like a true dual sport or ADV bike with 9-12” of travel, but a competent rider can make it work for sure.

    I test drove this bike and the 22 carbon with 22s that I ended up buying. Even for intermediate riders, the vastly improved handling on the 22 was the way to go. I could not disagree more that it looses character as a result.

      But what’s the fun in being predictable and safe? 😏 We ride motorcycles after all, hardly safe in comparison to 4 wheels and a cage.

      @@twistofthethrottle it’s more fun to feel like your on rails and power out of a corner than pogoing and wobbling out, it just feels good. Like the meme of the guy going “aahhh” putting on aftershave. Or hitting the sweet spot on the bat in baseball. 17s feel good

    • @twistofthethrottle
      @twistofthethrottle 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@monkmoto1887 I love the 19/18 combo. I plan to off-road my FTR and that would be awful to try on 17s. I definitely don't feel like I'm pogoing or wobbling, but I also don't corner like Rossi either. I'm sure for street ability the 17s are fun, but if I wanted a street-only oriented bike I'd have gotten another Monster (which the new one looks super enticing).
      That being said, the tires suck and I wouldn't mind the narrower handlebars.
