I own a 2019 FTR RR.. but I have added those wheels and bars with 50-50 tires to play on gravel roads a little!! I find the FTR a very FUN bike!! You'll love it
Got a mate with an FTR it’s his adventure bike and he takes it places the GS crowd wouldn’t dream of, spends a lot of time on one wheel too. Very capable machine.
I had one for a year and a half. Absolute hoot to ride. Sounded mint (I had the Remus can and link pipe). When new did 80, maybe 90 miles to a tank. After 4k miles that increased to average 115 miles. Biggest pain is filling it up with the neck shape to the fuel tank. I toured Wales twice and Scotland on it. Cheap to service too. Way cheaper than my Thruxton R. You'll like it.
Would be my absolute 1st choice in the FTR lineup Looks awesome!! Lets see you ride some fire/gravel road and light off road. I think that’s what sets it apart from the rest! Tire choices is pretty massive as the rear is the same as the Tenere 700 and Africa Twin while the front is the same as the 1250 GS and 750 GS I’m sure you’ll have loads of fun on this bike!
I recently got my motorcycle license and casually looked at this FRT Rally for my first bike. I was (thankfully) advised against this as a "beginner" bike, and actually ended up going with the Triumph Trident 660, which you also owned. We must have similar tastes. Still, I think this FTR Rally is one of the best looking bikes out there. I'm looking forward to more content about it!
Grats man. The trident is definetly a better beginner bike, being smaller, lighter, with more managble power. I would never recommend a new bike for a beginner(mostly for you to figure out what you like and dislike in bikes without swapping new bikes like my dad did), but that might be down to budget for me. I ended up with a Yamaha GTS atm, which is something impossible to find as a new bike too(you motorcycle nerds should google it if you havent heard of it).
Yo MOTOBOB, Looking forward to your upcoming videos on daily use of this FTR. You Meet the Nicest People on a Honda Valkyrie. Keep the Shiny Side Up. Hello from Mid Michigan USA 🇺🇸
When the FTR came out I loved it, but I've cooled to it over time. But this is by far the best looking FTR! I'd definitely have that one! I love the colour, the stance, everything! Even looks great with luggage... Awesome! Lucky git! 😅
I cooled to it as soon as the production model dropped It ended up being a sad American attempt at a Ducati monster The prototype had me so excited and then MEH 😑
I also have a 2022 FTR Rally. The scrambler look w/ the wire wheels work really well. I went from "Hey, there's a scrambler version of the FTR!" to owning one in a 6 hour period. Road biased is the word. Yes it looks off roadish, but without a proper bash plate, one needs to be mindful of the limitations. The OEM Scorpion tires are decent, but not great. I'd love some Michelin Anakees (or similar) later on if they make them in the required sizes. I hated the OEM mirrors. I'm a larger than average person, and I got sick of seeing just my elbows. DoubleTake Adventure mirrors are much better and I think they go nicely with the scrambler aesthetic (YMMV).I tried some bar end mirrors, and they didn't really do it for me. IDK if your dealer reflash for the exhaust helped the cold running or not, but these are cold blooded bastards in the morning. Since it sounds like your's is a loaner from Indian, I don't know how much latitude, if any, you have in these matters. With a Dynojet PV3 reflash from Fuel Moto, things are noticeably better in the morning and power delivery overall is a bit smoother throughout. Opinions vary, but I find the rear cylinder deactivation rather annoying. It's quite noticeable and feels like something just went wrong. The seat that comes on the rally version is decently comfortable for longish rides. You will find the range disappointing, so you won't have a lot of time to get uncomfortable on the seat. Of course the design is excellent in that it keeps you from sliding off when you get a bit too enthusiastic with the throttle. Not sure if it's good or bad, but I can pretty much guarantee you will need to factor in extra time when you are out and about. People will want to talk to you about the bike. Enjoy.
For me, this bike seems the perfect synthesis for those of us who have come from the Cruiser world, the naked world, the sport bike world, and the dirtbike world, which also includes the adventure world. I will definitely be watching for future videos, as this is one of the few bikes I would consider laying down some serious cash on.
On the tyre thing regarding on/off road. People always say things like "good for fire roads". Thing is... I can ride on fire roads and dry mud trails on my Michelin Road 5s. Knobblies get muddy, but not great mud shedding doesn't make them bad. You still have the tread to push yourself through wet mud. As someone who has never had knobblies but is a fan of weekend wild camping in the summer... those tyres are off-road biased.
Looking forward to regular updates on this. My favourite FTR is the carbon with the red frame, just makes it pop with the red/white colour combo. Have fun.
Very good choice. Terrific Indian Head emblem on the Tank. Fire trails and gravel roads would the limit for me with a bike that size. Reminds me of my R100GS size wise.
I bought the new S model. It's got decent rubber and handles like a dream. I really don't want knobblies on the road and I actively dislike off roading, so that isn't an issue for me. As far as riding position goes, I fitted the rally bars and the upright posture is spot on.
I have the 2019 S and I couldn't wait to bin off the Continental Road Attack 3 tyres that I had fitted. Excellent rubber, incredible response, feel and grip, but I hated the look. This is supposed to be a Flat Track Racer - so I replaced them with the tyres you see here, the Pirelli Scorpion Rally STRs. Doesn't feel like a block tread in the slightest - slightly slower more ponderous steering, but after 50 odd miles I'd adapted and never looked back. Incredible tyres and they look so aggressive. We differ, because I will frequently green lane and take the bike on unsealed hard packed dirt surfaces and loose gravel. Given that the STRs perform so well on the road, the option to take the bike off the asphalt is an added bonus. One of the best changes I've made.
Interested to see what this is like as a fun daily rider. Great choice going for the flat tracker wheels, not sure how they effect the handling but they really do look smashing.
I owned the FTR for all of last year and highly recommend the Michelin Anakee Wild tyres. Ended up selling and getting a Ducati Scrambler for the kilogram savings.
I want one really really really bad it’s an absolutely beautiful bike I do believe it’s my absolute favorite bike ever but being disabled now I don’t know if I could ride again but i think I can but this is the bike I want to have to maybe enjoy a little bit of life again but Indian has always been a amazing bike and they really got me wanting to buy one if I can actually afford one but I really do appreciate your videos here in the USA 🇺🇸 I kinda have to live through others eyes and experiences now and for that I thank you
Looks like a great choice, stylish and capable. Interesting that for distance and m-way rides you’ve gone for a naked, would be interesting to see some comparisons with wind protection added and your thoughts.
I agree completely. I understand why Indian changed the design of the FTR but I don’t really like it…..as much. The Rally version retains that original tracker vibe. I think it looks cooler too😎
S&S do a button kit to change ride modes with the base model and it just plugs into the left button housing and they do alot of other sick things for the FTR because FTR 1200s are used in alot of types of racing now
Love the FTR 🔥🔥🔥 I have the Base one (2019 model) as still owning the A2 license here in France but not sure if I will sell it or keep it …just amazing bike ! Congrats 👍
Why are we doing this anymore? You can ride most every bike on compact dirt or gravel. This bike is considerably more capable. It handles mud and fairly challenging trails just fine. If wont handle Moab trail, obviously. It's absolutely a scrambler for 99% of people while also having enough motor to not be something you want to sell in a few years, if ever. This is my choice driving in Wisconsin where I guide people to remote hunting spots but then need to hop on the 75 mph highways to get back home.
Yeah it is - you do it incrementally, but it's also a relatively small tank, so less capacity. It puts a few minutes on at most. No real cause of concern.
I remember last year looking at the red/white fast FTR last year, I noticed a rusty cotter pin on the rear axel nut. Just looked cheaply built. I also hear the tires are not safe.
i wish they made it in a 650cc and lower the cost to that $8k range. But got to say, its nice to see American bike companies making modern bikes again.
The original FTR base model was the best. I don't like TFTs. Too expensive if they go wrong. The FTR is heavy on petrol. Hang on! Innertubes on a bike costing this much?
I've toured quite well on my Rally, while range isnt great the bike is comfortable, the taller bars help and the wee headlight cowl does seem to offer a little something. mines a 2021 so not sure what the differences are. The tyres are better than expected tbh. Looking forward to your thoughts
As you get more into touring with it, I would be interested in what you have to say about comfort with the riding position. I'm a taller rider and I did throw a leg over at a dealership and felt a bit up on my wrists on it. I really like it but wonder if it's for me. Also I've heard that the current S is much more friendly than the original. Anyway, very much looking forward to the content.
I suspect for tires youd be well served by the all the Starbucks spec ADV tires in 1250GS sizes. Things like Shinko 705/704, Anakee Adventures, Battleaxe A41.
Don't rate the Shinko, or like the look of the Anakee - and the Bridgestones would look terrible on the 'Rally'. I have the 2019 FTR S and have spent time and money attempting to get it looking as close to the flat track racer that it originally purported to be pre-launch. At first I fitted arguably the optimum rubber on it for this bike - Continental Road Attack 3, but in my opinion it looked shit and I wanted something more in keeping with the spirit of the bike. I chose precisely these tyres in the video. Reasons? I've ridden them before, I very much favour Pirelli, they look brilliant and although they have their limitations off road (mud), they are surprisingly capable on sealed/paved surfaces. In fact I've dragged my knee several times since fitting. Excellent tyres, great aggressive looks and incredibly forgiving on the road for a block pattern. One of the best changes I made. Completely transformed the look of my bike.
Nice motorcycle, looks awesome Hope u upgraded the balls,it's gonna burn, rear cylinder deactivated or not this one gonna make lots of heat, please wear some protection.
It is a sin that you didnt let us hear the bike
Best looking FTR (IMO). The engine sounds like a beast. Looking forward to more vids on this bike 🏍
If you got the money the FTR R should be your weapon of choice. I ve done 1000km on it and its a bike for the ages. Sublime.
I own a 2019 FTR RR.. but I have added those wheels and bars with 50-50 tires to play on gravel roads a little!! I find the FTR a very FUN bike!! You'll love it

I am planning to buy exactly the same version, 1 is still on stock in local dealer. Thanks for this video - it's so far the best one on the youtube.
Would be my absolute 1st choice in the FTR lineup

Ayyyeeee, GR represent! Haha
i bought the '22 Carbon last year ... absolutely love it !!
Hey Bob I really like your videos! I can't wait to see and hear this thing run!
Magnificent machine! Original sized wheels too. Will watch for updates with interest.
When the FTR came out I loved it, but I've cooled to it over time. But this is by far the best looking FTR! I'd definitely have that one! I love the colour, the stance, everything! Even looks great with luggage... Awesome! Lucky git! 😅
I, too, have cooled to it.
I cooled to it as soon as the production model dropped
It ended up being a sad American attempt at a Ducati monster
The prototype had me so excited and then
MEH 😑
Beautiful bike. Without riding it (yet) this would be high on my list for a daily, absolutely love the vibe!
I also have a 2022 FTR Rally. The scrambler look w/ the wire wheels work really well. I went from "Hey, there's a scrambler version of the FTR!" to owning one in a 6 hour period.

This thin looks like a beast! Can’t wait to see more of it.
That thing is gorgeous, looking forward to seeing more.
Love the minimalist controls.

I really like the looks of this bike and am seriously considering getting one. I look forward to more videos!
Nice. Shouts from New Zealand. Cool looking bike. Nice review. I'd love to take one for a spin.
I bought a '22 FTR Rally. Man, I love the bike. I think I'm gonna hold on to it for a good while and put lots of miles on it.
That’s the first FTR I’ve seen that I’d actually want to buy…. Lookimg forward to some more riding on this baby! 🤩👊
What a beauty. Congrats
What a beauty! Enjoy man!
For a short guy like my self with low confidence, experience and useable 'talent'. I do wish they did the flat track racer 750cc for road use.
On the tyre thing regarding on/off road.
People always say things like "good for fire roads". Thing is... I can ride on fire roads and dry mud trails on my Michelin Road 5s. As someone who has never had knobblies but is a fan of weekend wild camping in the summer... those tyres are off-road biased.
I’ve been saying the FTR would be my next bike, and here in Southern MO, the FTR Rally would be perfect!❤😊
FTR Looking SICK!!
Looking forward to regular updates on this. My favourite FTR is the carbon with the red frame, just makes it pop with the red/white colour combo. Have fun.
The spec of this bike is just amazing!
The exhaust looks much better than stock. Nice looking bike overall.👍🏻
Congrats on your new ride. Enjoy.
Very good choice. Terrific Indian Head emblem on the Tank. Fire trails and gravel roads would the limit for me with a bike that size. Reminds me of my R100GS size wise.
Saw one today for first time in the red frame looked very cool sounded very cool too

Wonderful bike 🔥❤️ Bob 👍. Fan from India
Wow congrats man… well deserved!!!
Great intro to the Indian...would love to have heard it roar....🏍🦁
Nice bike , looking forward to your review Bob, hope you enjoy the Indian
Interested to see what this is like as a fun daily rider. Great choice going for the flat tracker wheels, not sure how they effect the handling but they really do look smashing.
This bike is so beautiful. Damn, can't wait to own one of these. Very nice.
Looks a great bike. Quality intro too.
That is one good looking bike! Enjoy and look forward to seeing more vids about it👍
Great to see you taking on more adventures with alternative motorcycles. I think your travels will be great!✅
Get the scorpion tires you mentioned. Love them, tip in steadier and slightly lighter feel on the bars of the FTR.
You sold the trident??
You really do have the best job in the world. “Here take this cool bike”. I struggle to borrow 1 for an hour 😢😭😭😭😭
I owned the FTR for all of last year and highly recommend the Michelin Anakee Wild tyres. Ended up selling and getting a Ducati Scrambler for the kilogram savings.

Question, how do you get on with the retro helmet/goggles as a glasses wearer? Love that vibe but concerned they'll crush my glasses into my face.
I think it looks cooler too😎
To high on the mufflers. Should be into 1 and lower.
Your right about Cruz control on motorcycles in general.
Should be standard equipment.
S&S do a button kit to change ride modes with the base model and it just plugs into the left button housing
and they do alot of other sick things for the FTR because FTR 1200s are used in alot of types of racing now
Love the FTR 🔥🔥🔥 I have the Base one (2019 model) as still owning the A2 license here in France but not sure if I will sell it or keep it …just amazing bike ! Congrats 👍
Lovely looking bike, looking forward to seeing it out on the road. For a 1200 I was surprised by the relatively low HP number.
The price is unaffordable but it’s soo damn cool!
Lovely looking machine! Hope you get lots of miles on it 👍
Master piece
Motovlog with the FTR. Day 1
love the rally, only wish it kept the red frame

Very nice bike
Excellent review! Can you "Flat foot" it when on it?
Blimey, handsome bike!
Love the FTR 👌
I love all the features of the FTR Carbon but the rally looks better. Such a conundrum.
I’ve heard fuelling is very slow due to placement of the cap vs tank location. Your experience with that would be appreciated. Gorgeous bike.
I'll publish more of a riding/ownership type review soon, but yes it's slow to fuel up
Yeah it is - you do it incrementally, but it's also a relatively small tank, so less capacity. It puts a few minutes on at most. No real cause of concern.
but still way faster than ...charging your bike with electricity...😉
I thought there would be more videos with the rally
You're gonna get covered in crap with that silly front mudguard!
are the footpegs still positioned as aggressive as the original '19 version?
Looks great, I was always interested in these bikes. Crack on dood!
I'd love to hear that acropovic exhaust, I've hear an ftr without a cat..curious to see how it sounds. Love your channel, cheers from New England! 🇺🇸
Is this your new dad bike?
Nice but did you say tubed tyres?? ATVB
Look at this thing 😍
SERVICE intervals ?
Can dual rear givi panniers fit on that bike as is?
Don't think so - I can't find any dual pannier solutions
Lovely looking bike……I really like this one. Absolutely needs a tail tidy though..1st mod and essential 😀👍👍
Hello from Greece , do you know if the rally 24 coming with ride modes in Europe?
I remember last year looking at the red/white fast FTR last year, I noticed a rusty cotter pin on the rear axel nut. Just looked cheaply built. I also hear the tires are not safe.
Great looking bike.
Again why do manufacturers only go with Akrapovic?
i wish they made it in a 650cc and lower the cost to that $8k range. But got to say, its nice to see American bike companies making modern bikes again.
Thank God I will buy one for myself
The original FTR base model was the best. I don't like TFTs. Too expensive if they go wrong. The FTR is heavy on petrol. Hang on! Innertubes on a bike costing this much?
I want one.
Great review - have been eyeing this bike for some time.
Question: I'm 5'8" - would this bike be a bit too tall for me?
I got this bike your going to like it..
I've toured quite well on my Rally, while range isnt great the bike is comfortable, the taller bars help and the wee headlight cowl does seem to offer a little something. mines a 2021 so not sure what the differences are. The tyres are better than expected tbh. Looking forward to your thoughts
I love the look of this bike. And it is a beast. However it could definitely do with a bigger fuel tank!
The FTRs have always looked pretty ugly to me, but THIS? It looks fantastic, I'm so surprised, haha! The colour scheme really works, too.
The single cylinder shut off is causing mine to stall at idle.
Great content, but sort those studio lights out, every bike looks like it has honeycomb patten,,,,
I suspect for tires youd be well served by the all the Starbucks spec ADV tires in 1250GS sizes. Things like Shinko 705/704, Anakee Adventures, Battleaxe A41.

Nice motorcycle,looks awesome
Hope u upgraded the balls,it's gonna burn, rear cylinder deactivated or not this one gonna make lots of heat, please wear some protection.
Non-adjustable forks for $17k?
