I am a computer engineer for almost 30 years and I've just enjoyed watching a man fixing shoes for almost an hour. Craftsmanship is a wonderful thing to watch!
Same boat as you, man, and at 44 I'm seriously thinking to switch. The amount of mental stress our work brings is enormous and very difficult to understand unless you've direct experience of it.
I was in IT for over 40 years, since I was 10 years old. I've held nearly every job in the field and the last was a C level director. I was burned out! Walked away and became a handyman contractor. My only regret is not doing it sooner. I'm well into my 50s.
... working-class hero ... no computers clean desk and manicured nails ... Bedo I love to spend with your work every minute ... is a privilege to watch your dedication to your craft ... and keep on going coz not too many as you left on this world ...
I’m recovering from the virus after being in hospital. And it’s my birthday today I just wanted to say you cheer me up and make me feel better. Love your work you are a skilled master of excellence. Carol x
I can see why these are your favorite shoes. I’ve never owned one or worn one, but just the sheer amount of options and creativity you can do to make these shoes look amazing must be fun as hell.
There's hope for humanity when there's folks like this that do high quality work. Integrity is when you do the right thing and you know no one is there lookin' (but you).
I am having the best time watching all of your videos! I found you about two weeks ago and have been binge watching ever since. *** I love the way you talk to the camera like we are sitting in your shop with you, instead of you talking at us like a lecture.**** I cannot believe the life you bring back to these items. Especially the handbags, it's amazing! Now, I'm on the hunt for a used LV or Gucci, etc., handbag to get restored! It totally irks me the way people talk about having a bag restored like it's not a "real" luxury item anymore. IMO, for most people we save up to buy a luxury item like that and use it faithfully every day. THESE ITEMS USUALLY HAVE SENTIMENTAL VALUE AND IF YOU CAN BRING THEM BACK FROM THE DEAD THEN I'M ALL FOR IT! Like you say, "to each their own".
Sorry you are under-the-weather; easy to say "take care" but you are there for us and are needed. Your family support is most important of all and helps us as well. Enjoyed every part of this upload. Humbly said, "I think this turned out pretty good". Hammertime!
Hi, I enjoy watching a true craftsman work. I don't care about pricing, people who own quality footwear know what they're getting. It's great to see there are true craftsman still in business. Good luck and Godspeed!!!
I like that there is such immense pride in making subtle improvements, such as ditching fibreboard heels for leather, add that to the actual skill involved in repairing each job. Your car a few episodes back made me a little jealous, but you having Zeus with you for company at work warms my heart. Stay safe, and people please support your local craftspeople.
One of the reasons I love shoes, clothes, and watches among other things is the craftsmanship behind every detail. If my local cobbler surprised me with that kind of work, I would probably stare at them for a few days.
Back in 1991, I worked part time at a cobbler shop, and the owner had a Rottweiler named Mars. German breed dogs named after Greek Gods for the win! I did minor repairs and finish work, and worked full time as a shoe shiner at the courthouse, commissioned through the shop. Also, inspired by watching your videos, I just replaced the rubber heels on a friend's boots. One of the factory heels fell off, and she lost it. So I replaced both. It wasn't the most beautiful work I've ever done, but pretty good for having just a French hammer, a cobbler's anvil, a utility knife, and a Dremel rotary tool. And I've been using Master's cement for years, too!
I agree. It’s called “customize”. That’s the work of art and I support it. It makes you different from the others, paying attention on details which I am looking for getting services done too, make customers satisfy and happy then they willing to pay even higher price, remember trying to stay “ No one can beat your work, not the price ”, quality is number 1. If you guys could pay attention on all the luxury or brand name products, they always put small details on their products to make it different.😉
thanks so much for the great work you do and the enjoyment you give. i am across the pond in the UK and watching your work listening to you fun comment and watching your dog give me a great deal of pleasure.
Now I'm in my mid forties I would love nothing more than to apprentice under somebody like this, shame I wasn't as interested at a more appropriate age. Absolutely magnificent outcome. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. You've definitely got a subscriber for life, I could rewatch this video again thirty seconds after it finishes and learn something new with every viewing. I have never seen a work of art in progress until now!!! As for the results??? WOW!!!!! I'd want to send you a pair of my shoes just so that the finished product is put on display. Phenomenal work!!!
Masterful as always, Steve! It warms my heart to see those lovely soles. Reminds me of when my black pebble grain Imperial wingtips were brand new in January 1982. I still wear them regularly, but my cobbler can't come close to your skills. Thanks again, please stay healthy and please continue to make videos!

As some who works in engineering and ballistics this was truly fascinating. What a craftsman. Never thought I would spend a relaxing hour watching a man fix a pair of shoes.
What can be better than working on a pair of your favorite shoes? How about 3 pairs of them (actually 4 but that fun comes later). What you do to the bottom of shoes is definitely art and no way are customers ever not going to want that. You do present a dilemma for your customers in that they probably don't want to wear them and ruin the art!! Really enjoyed the video, all three came out beautiful.
One of the best thumbnails I've seen in my literal life. My heart skipped a beat and the mouse practically clicked by itself. I need to own a pair and send them to you Steve.

Wow, I'm old. It doesn't seem like so long ago I could walk into a shoe store on Main Street, Johnstown, PA and buy as many pairs of Flosheims as I could afford. A pair of black wingtips and a pair of cordovan bluchers were mandatory as were what we called "Old Maines", a moc toe demi-boot made of heavy waxed leather with thick soles. They were my favorite but they went away along with USA shoe manufacture.
In the 60's and 70's I used to buy this very brand. Alot of money for shoes! But, from working class guys to lawyers, etc. back in the day, everyone took their shoes to craftsmen such as yourself! A true Artisian! Best to ya',,,,!

Beautiful shoes from a more elegant era. I remember seeing businessmen wearing them when I was a kid. I always thought of them as a "work boot" for executives because of how heavy the soles were.
Great stuff, Holdfast you are an artist, and once I stop buying Sketchers I'll be looking you up. I've actually started going to 2nd hand stores to look for shoes that would fit me, that need your touch.
I just LOVE watching you build and "re-build" Shoes, Designer Bags, Boots and more!!! I can tell you that I never took interest in this before the COVID-19 Pandemic, but I find myself watching all of your instructional videos now. They hold my attention for hours and are quite interesting. As a New Yorker who always had a nice Gucci or Louis Vuitton Bag, I was under the impression that I had to send them for repair to their respective Repair Departments. Now I know that is not true!!! I have a pair of dope Gucci Boots where the "GG" fabric has separated/frayed at the crease of the right boot on top. I will be sending them to you for repair!!! Big up to you AND Zeus!!!
I found you yesterday surfing through TH-cam and binge-watched you for 9 hours, with a few breaks to shovel snow. Pride in craftsmanship always impresses me. You are an accomplished pro. One question, how long did it take you to re-sole the brown pair?

It totally got my wife. She said, "hmmm, interesting", and then followed up up with "aww crap". Then we both laughed hysterically. It's weird we watched a shoe repair video together. Neither of us have anything besides throw em out walmart shoes.
Steve?!?! You DRINK Fiebing's Leather Dye??? (What? You believed that question?) Back atcha brudda. Solid rebuilds on those. I used to do carpentry, and there's nothing I disliked more, than to have to tear apart my own framing. When things are solid, it just feels right. Between shoes, boots, slings, holsters, and such... I've burned through at least half of one 16oz bottle of the Bick 4 (I ordered two bottles). Haven't even gotten to my Tahoe's upholstery yet. Great conditioner for all of those types of items. I still prefer the Saphir Renovateur for maintaining an already cared-for fine leather good... but, for thirsty stuff, lovin' that Bick 4. Get healthy, and extra cookies for the Zeus unit.
These are wallstreet investment banker CEO shoes. Lol. They are beautiful top notch American craftsmen quality with the touches that the old school master cobblers would do. And to me, that's the difference between a guy "fixing" your shoes and a true craftsman that is the cobbler working on your shoes. You sir, are a craftsman! And dare I say, artist.
I fell for the "coffee welt" and then laughed out loud when you revealed the joke😁great video as usual, loved it as usual 👍stay safe. Love, respect and best wishes from the UK,👍
Steve, you are truly a shoe wizard and my highest compliment that you are a true craftsman! I just love watching a craftsman at work, and you are one of the very best. I completely agree that the shoes are a real work of art when you are finished. There are fewer and fewer of people capable of even doing what you’re doing. I do think they would look better at the end if you had them bar laced with shoe trees in the shoes. Thank you for your work.
I appreciate you so much for taking pride in your work. It takes so much precision, being a cobbler is really a lost art. You love what you do, and I’m grateful you share your craftsmanship!
Your jolly personality and master skills are amazing, the only hour long video that I watch with joy in TH-cam. We all feel like you are our friend. Stay safe and wish you a good health.

the price of the restorations have never been of much interest , its the quality of your workmanship and your nature that interests me, i think we were all hot heads given the right stimulus for me it was bullies id get them for the sake of their intended victims, protecting them and so one thing led to another and for a while it became my job in society to keep the peace. Steve try high strength olive leaf extract your annoying throat issues etc will disappear Fast, speaking from 19 years of exp.
The sad thing is Steve have to basically rebuild the shoe because the cheap way the shoe was made. Sad because the Brand Name was once a great, well made shoe. The client would be better off to buy a new shoe, or buy a used shoe that needs just a little bit of work to have a better shoe. What he is doing now is spending just to have the Brand Name.
Steve. The lip on the edge is probably one of the most important parts that sets your quality work apart from just normal. Topping of with the wax is Beautiful.

I appreciate you so much for taking pride in your work. It takes so much precision, being a cobbler is really a lost art. You love what you do, and I’m grateful you share your craftsmanship!
I'm a simple man. I see Zeus, i upvote.
I won't lie, I though the crashing sound was Zeus tipping something over.
Your jolly personality and master skills are amazing, the only hour long video

Respect for your craftmanship, my grandfather was a shoemaker just like you 55 years ago here in Denmark, love your work.
the price of the restorations have never been of much interest , its the quality of your workmanship and your nature that interests me, i think we were all hot heads given the right stimulus for me it was bullies id get them for the sake of their intended victims, protecting them and so one thing led to another and for a while it became my job in society to keep the peace.
I have a Shepherd. His name is Moose. Always at attention. When he sets his ears at a closed door like yours did, it means something.
You are an excelente craftsman with great work ethics I thoroughly enjoyed watching you work. My fathers favorite shoes are these.
I'm never usually 'that' guy, but the left burgundy pair at 57:20 looks like they're missing 3 nails on the heel..
I'm always 'that' guy. I'm only in the comments to see if anyone else noticed. You win. 👍
