    I just have to say that super organized shelf of piano books is amazing. And those big bright windows and the warm wood on the walls is so inviting. Along with all that, in the middle, sits your lovely grand piano. What a a beautiful room!

      Ahh, thank you, yes, I love this room!! I have to move house a lot for my partners work, and won't be here much longer, but I've loved this cozy little room with its views out to the garden. At least I can take all my piano books with me haha. If you look at my very old videos (exhibit A: th-cam.com/video/P6FeVMttgqc/w-d-xo.html ) you can see the same bookshelf looking comparatively bare. 9 years of collecting / hoarding later and there is overflow that I have to store elsewhere 😆

    After finishing the adult series, my teacher and I went on to the 3B collection and I am enjoying it. I also still continue to select pieces from the Adult Popular and Classic books 2 as supplemental work- the arrangements are wonderful and still very much in my range of difficulty.
    A note of thanks. I reference your videos often and they have been immeasurably helpful!

      That's my fave group of people to teach piano to - it's so lovely watching people rediscover piano! Especially if they are open to exploring genres they haven't previously played - can be really fun.

    Zelf heb ik de Nederlands talige versie van Faber piano aangeschaft deel 1 tot en met 6 de lessen en techniek boeken en ik was erg teleurgesteld in vergelijking met de Engelstalige versie. Blijkbaar lopen we twee boeken achter. Bijvoorbeeld. Boek drie is begin boek twee 😮😢 en boek 6 is gelijk aan boek 4 naar mijn gevoel.

    Thank you Beth😀. A nice big list of books at this level. Wow. The analysis paralysis was worth it (for us). And the sight reading recommendation is soooo good. I feel like that will help.

    Thank you for this wonderful list. I will talk to my teacher to pick some of those up after we finish the piano adventures. Especially the ones by Naoko Ikeda, the adventures lesson books and the keyboard essencials :)

    Hi, Beth! One of my returning piano player goals is to be able to sight read better so that I can just sit down and play lots of music. I actually really enjoy easier pieces. The Faber 1, 2, 2.A, & 2B books, for example, have great arrangements. There's a lot of fun to be had at this level. I realized that I personally don't enjoy spending months on a piece. When pieces are too hard, I can become frustrated. I would rather take my time, play a lot of music that I enjoy, and gradually level up.
    I used to be at the sonatina level but it has been a while. I hope to get back to them but I will enjoy the journey in the interim. I'm working through Faber's Adult course Book 1 and having a terrific time. I'm also supplementing with Journey Through the Classics edited by Jennifer Linn. I have several Faber performance books, too.
    Your channel gives me so many great ideas for music.
    I hope your wrist feels better soon. Thank you for inspiring me.

      Yes!!! I truly believe that the sweet spot of enjoying piano is getting to the point where you can instantly play any grade 2 piece that you want, and it's a very achievable goal. It just means playing a lot of level 1, level 2A, level 2B, level 3A (grade 1) and level 3B pieces (grade 2) until all of the patterns at those levels become instantly identifiable and decodable without barely having to think about it. Unfortunately a lot of people make it much harder than that by only working on very few pieces for months at a time, thinking "harder is better", but the trick is really enormous amounts of easy pieces, just like you're doing!!! 5-10 a week and you'll be vastly improved in 12 months time.
      Not sure if I mention it in the video, but Faber also has other books outside of the piano adventures series, at the method book level. PlayTime (level 1), ShowTime (2A) ChordTime (2B) and FunTime (3B) are Fabers themed books - popular, jazz, disney, hymns, rock n roll and others, that are a lot of fun and well arranged.

    I would love to understand what was said about sight reading in lower level books. What a surprise to learn that to improve you don't need difficult materials just mastering what you can, in time one will become better at sight reading. I wish to experience and trust that it will happen, Edward.

    • @PianoWithBeth
      @PianoWithBeth  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you give it a try you will see results relatively quickly. I have had a few adult students go gung ho with this and the results they have been able to achieve in 6 months to a year are huge. The real sweet spot is grade 1 pieces. Get to a point where you can learn 5 grade 1 pieces a week and do that for a year, and I promise your sight reading (and playing) will see significant improvement. It's just about putting the time in wisely.

    All this time I assumed you were in Canada! Mike Springer Jazz books are great. Different difficulty levels, fun to play and easier than they sound. The first one is called "Not Just Another Jazz Book". Some of his pieces are in the RCM books as you know. Foggy Day Blues I believe is level 4.

    • @PianoWithBeth
      @PianoWithBeth  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ha, nope, very Australian. And yes, I do like Mikes stuff and should buy one of his collections. Too many things I want, and not enough shelf space!! Another composer I really want to buy more of who appears a lot in the RCM books is Christine Donkin.
