    Great video, perfect editing! No long introduction, no heavy breathing into a microphone, the video did all of the explanations, playback speed was just right. Nice work!

    Great video.....but what if i change my chainring to a bigger one and my rear sprocket to a smaller one will that make me go faster?

    Did you bike come with an alfine hub or did you buy a wheel and fit it yourself ?
    I enjoyed the east to west video very much, thanks. The only trouble was it made me a bit dizzy because of the phone moving about when taking the video. I had to go and lie down afterwards. :) Subscribed.

      +HRH Bucket it came with the hub its a ridgeback world journey touring bike, I find the hubs to be perfect for me.
      Kool glad you enjoyed it, yeah I didn't take a tripod but I did take one for my camera which helped in newer videos. I'll keep that in mind thanks ;)

    I done this but somehow now my gears won't change properly, the cable gets very tight about gear 5 and can't go higher without feeling I will snap something. Any idea how I screwed it up?

    • @hippyswift
      @hippyswift  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Normally it should feel just like it did before, did you adjust gear cable at all? If not its very odd, just play about with it and see if the cable is caught anywhere too, and it could be corrosion in the cable housing if it's an older bike.

    • @ben6089
      @ben6089 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@hippyswift Thanks buddy for replying. I didn't adjust it at all and normally it was perfect. I've probably jammed it or done something dumb. I guess I'll take it all off and start again

    • @hippyswift
      @hippyswift  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, hub gears are great and it's probably something simple to be honest, I know mine went very stiff at one point but I just played about with it and it worked. However make sure the gear cable that goes into the shifter is seated correctly inside as my one came out once which made it feel too tight as you described

      @@hippyswift Thanks, I had another go at it with no avail but I'll look into what you said tomorrow, it's almost midnight tomorrow. I need to get this thing going in about 48 hours or else I'm stuck riding my fixie on my biking holiday haha

      For what it's worth, I think I moved the shimano cj-8s20 cassette joint, so I taken it off, blew it out a bit and installed it again following the manual (basically matching the colors). I think the wrong cassette joint position made it hard to put the cable shifter into it's housing again, but since it was my first go I didn't know how hard it was meant to be!. Thanks

    how do you rate the gear hub?

    • @hippyswift
      @hippyswift  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Zook500 best thing I've bought bike related, 10/10, no issues in three years at all. It dies feel Luke there should be a gear between 3&4 but that's picking lol

    • @Zook500
      @Zook500 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      hippyswift thanks! was is expensive? and what sort of maintenence does it need?

    • @hippyswift
      @hippyswift  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Zook500 three years I havnt serviced it yet but that's fiddly, for maintainance simply check to see if two little yellow markers line up correctly on top of hub through a little plastic window, other than that. No twigs or grime to get out of sprockets so a simple toothbrush to clean it works well, I check all my bikes 3-4 times a year but never any trouble from the hub, I would like the Aldine 11 speed hub shimano does but they are £380 just for the hub. You can get a bike second hand like mine for about £700-£900 but that's more than it should be so I'd reccomend making a bike from scratch with frame and hub of your choosing as if you spend that sort of money you want it to fit you perfectly, revolution bikes and another brand do them but bikes are heavier but cheaper

      @alexmorgan3435 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stick with the 8spd Alfine hub, I believe it is more robust and reliable than the 11spd, but what do I know I'm a Rohloff cyclist.

    • @hippyswift

      +Alex Morgan haha yeah I am dude I have several bikes, hubs are amazing no matter the brand

  • @slugworm00

    Good video mate, the book that comes with the bike says don't take the back wheel off you will need technical help to put it back on. l think they mean strap it on back and take it back to Halfords to sort it for you ( at a cost ) Now you have shown me how, it looks a piece of piss, just wires, nut bolts, -- your not taking the hub apart are you?...uk

    • @hippyswift
      @hippyswift  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Michael Boulton thanks buddy ;) indeed they just want your money, no I don't take it apart with what I done, you can oil bath them but you can do it yourself, I would reccomend getting a proper circlip remover though as it has a tricky one, peace

    Nice work but get some nitrile gloves to avoid mucky hands. Always have some of these in my panniers, but with SMP+ you don't need to mend punctures so only need to change tyres when it is worn out or you are going over a very different surface and need a different tyre..

    Bikes with gears are a pain in the behind to change, I changed the tire but couldn’t get it back on, I lost it and threw it into the street. Someone took it, good riddance. Getting my kid a single speed bike, easy to change tire.

  • @phinhager6509

    Can’t see how you unhooked the cable

    • @hippyswift
      @hippyswift  ปีที่แล้ว

      There's a small hole on the underside, I placed a small hex key in it and turned the gearing to release the spring tention holding the cable hook. It's fiddly first times you do it as the cable end has grooves/ flat spots that slide into the hook a certain way
