Bruh - had several E38s in the family - V8s and V12s. Best looking sedan apart from Jaguar XJ6 / 12 Series III. They are a sublime highway cruiser. Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada out on empty roads... no better place to spend 4 hours behind the wheel.
Never owned a W140 but driven several. Would take an E38 every time. Currently in 05 CL600.

W140 is a great car but the e 38 had a edge on the s class. The e 38 is the best 7 ever
