  • Back in the garage with finally showing the Raptor some love again and sorting out the 12v auxiliary power installation with a dual battery installation. There were a few ideas with how to do this project, I finally decided to go with a basic simple system.
    The gear
    • Itech world 54ah lithium battery
    • Itech World dc-dc 25ah charger
    • Pirate Camp Co Tub switch panel
    • Drifta LED strip lighting
    • Wiring to suit
We decided to mount the battery in the driver side under seat storage in the back. While it was slightly too large for this location it still fits and works well. Secured by a cam buckle strap that runs under the plastic tub
The DC-DC charger is straight forward to wire, everything is well labelled. It has Anderson connections that I repined to minimise wire joins. The most important thing is ensure you have adequate gauge cabling. We ran 6 BNS cable to the charger and from the second battery to the rear fuse block. For the charger to the 2nd battery, we used 8 BNS being only a short distance. All power cables are running MIDI fuses and lug connections.
Getting power from inside the cab to out was relatively straight forward as there is a grommet in the back wall that can easily accommodate large wire. We ran the wiring down the passenger side of the tub and into the back factory location where the 12v cig socket is. The factory panel was replaced with the Pirate Camp Co Tub switch panel. This houses 2 Anderson connections, 2 cig style sockets and has 3 switch locations. We added 2 dual USB switches one with a voltage gauge built in and a blanking plate in here.
The busbar fuse box is also bolted to the back of the Pirate Camp Co power switch panel, this keeps everything close and all the wiring to a minimum. We also installed 2 Drifter white / amber LED strip lights either side of the tub.
Overall this is relatively straight forward and the Next Gen Raptor Ranger now has a dual battery system that always keeps the beer cold and camp lights shining. And that is what it’s all about!

Good info mate. Trying to pull the trigger on my 12 volt on my 2 week old Raptor as we speak. Keep up the vids. Love the content 👌

Thanks mate 🙌 there are definitely a lot of good options around for dual batteries these days

Hey mate. I am on the fence at the moment. I have a 21 Y62 with extra sauce. But have been wrestling with doing the same as you and getting a Raptor. Do you miss the big girl at all. What's the fuel usage like compared to the Patrol. Have you at any stage gone gee I was I was in the 62 again. Appreciate all your hard work and hope to get a response Thanks.

Great video mate, definitely helped me figure out my dual battery setup. Was a little confused with all the wiring initially, I decided to go with a redarc dcdc charger instead of the itech one, though, wondering why there is so many negative outputs on the itech one, did you just join them all together and earth them?

Thanks mate. Power from the car to the charger has + & -, that one is earthed to the car. From the charger to the second battery + & - to the terminals. The solar input just lives under the seat + & - on an Anderson plug. Then its just one 6bns + wire to the power panel in the tub to the busbar fuse block to power all the outlets and i made a negative busbar for all of them as well so i only needed 1 negative wire back to the car.

@@HappyGoTravel I bought the pre-wired cabling from KickAss which was great, long enough from the back of wagon and AUX battery/DCDC charger to the battery under the bonnet. I don' think I earthed it to the car though, but the negative in the car battery. Have I stuffed it LOL?
