Not sure which part you may be referring too, but “Top Tier” certified gasoline stations will save your wallet in the long run (that’s if you plan on keeping your vehicle long-term; not leasing a vehicle).
All gasoline sold in the U.S. must adhere to the EPA's Least Additive Concentrate (LAC) mixture, requiring a minimum amount of detergents present in the gasoline, regardless of octane rating. Octane rating is adjusted for after refineries meet the EPA’s LAC guidelines.
However, gasoline sold at stations that are certified Top Tier fuel, are a high-quality alternative that go beyond the bare minimum of additives and detergents that EPA’s LAC requires. Non-certified Top Tier gasoline stations, especially those stations that are typically the cheapest in town, are certainly low-grade quality fuel.
There are many who have done testing on the standard gasoline compared to Top Tier gasoline, and they always show that the non-certified alternative will have excessive amounts of buildup on vital engine components, which will lead to greater engine wear for less efficiency and performance.
Those who continually go after the cheapest alternative will eventually have egg on their face when their engine has too much buildup and are stuck at the repair shop. 😂
Below are links to AAA’s research on this issue and Total Seal Piston Rings’ TH-cam channel showing their own testing.
