This pinned comment is where I will put things that I forgot to say: 1.) On the ATC Chatter portion, I remember that you have to click the "Controller Folders" radio button. 2.) A minor correction: For the convo I had with Dave the dev, I was inquiring about FSLTL and how Pilot2ATC worked with it. He was watching my vid to see the interaction I had a question about, but he caught that tower wasn't handing me off to center for flight following and fixed it, sending me a beta to test. Just want to make sure I tell that story right. 3.) *AIRAC 4.) Concerning Amazon AWS Polly voices, configuring an AWS account isn't trivial and that took a lot for me to work out, again, with no payoff in the end. Ivona and Cereproc voices install to your system and become system voices which makes them readily available. Cereproc voices would be the ones I would say are better. Pilot2atc just uses whatever system voices are available to it so you actually have as many options as any other text-to-speech program and there are several producers of AI voices for that purpose that you can purchase. 5.) Apparently they have added a VR Best Practices PDF to the documentation you get. Bonus! Additional Voice Options: nextup.com/attnv.html nextup.com/ivona/ www.cereproc.com/
Thanks a lot for this video. This made me realize what a great app we already have and that I shouldn't replace it at this moment. I need to read that documentation about VR that came out recently.
It took me a moment to find it. Its in the download folder from the install of the app and not on the website, fyi. Its basically how to use overlays to improve the experience. I gave it a try and using Steam it was pretty smooth on a 3080. They have alternatives for non-Steam users.
and yeah, it works amazing well given that its not AI driven and has been around for a while. It surprises me all of the time with its maturity. Fortunately it gives us an alternative until Beyond ATC comes out. The prices just came down on that and its looking very attractive assuming they nail the traffic which is still not in the beta yet. But they are working hard on it. I would guess we'll get it by fall, but fortunately we have this in the meantime.
It's not a bad piece of software. My hope is though, that beyondAtc will take this to the next level. The voice recognition demo shown in the pricing Q&A video over at overkill looked extremely promising.
I am dying to see a better demo of where they are at with the traffic. I'm was a little worried when they took all that on, though I understand why they had to. It would have had all the problems of the others if they didn't, but if that isn't robust, it could take the voice stuff down too. Here's to hoping! (also those delays are brutal on responses)
Great news! On the AVSIM forum, someone has informed me that an additional PDF was added by Pilot2ATC that explains how to best use the tool in VR, so you'll get even a bit more info from the site. I was unaware that they had added to the documentation since my purchase.
I appreciate the video and showing some things that not everyone may know about, including myself. Personally I made the jump over to SayIntentions until BATC comes out because I was super frustrated with P2ATC and the speech recognition. That said, SI has it's own set of issues that's for sure, but it has been far easier to deal with and use in VR. I think once people figure out the mix and match options for BATC that it will really be a game changer for $60 and last a lot longer than folks are thinking. But as you said P2ATC is a great alternative if you get it working right.
Agreed. I will be the first to move on from Pilot2atc if BATC nails the traffic. I am still waiting to see a full working demo of ALL of it. If it doesn't work out, I'll get a couple of voice packs likely and stick with this. I would love to know when they think they'll be releasing as well.
@@fauxflights77 is BeyondATC at FS-Expo in Vegas? I'd be interested if they do a presentation on one of the two presentation days (Sat. / Sun.) or if they did it Friday. If they did it Friday, I will hope that they have it available on TH-cam. I want to see what improvements are coming.
I too have been using P2atc across multiple platforms for a long time. I'm going to look at Beyond atc, but it must work in vr and be able to show interaction texts. What I do like is the traffic integration Batc is supposed to have. I can see a $60 purchase for the base product as thats what p2atc costs. The base voices should be just fine, possibly a touch better. The verbal interaction may be smoother as well. I'll wait and watch until it hits those standards before I purchase. Until then, P2atc works just fine for me as well. Thanks for video!
Thanks Rex. I've enjoyed your vids for a bit now. We have similar setups and interests in terms of VR and our Brunner setup. The biggest problem I have with syaintentions and what I've seen of Beyond is the delay. I don't want to wait 20 seconds on responses all the time. I also have noticed that they haven't shown us their traffic solve and I'm worried that if they get that wrong, it will bring the great voice stuff with it. Hoping they get it right, that the costs come down in time, and the delay time gets tightened up. Till then, pilot2atc is working for me. Thanks again for the content and for the comment.
Thanks for this. I have P2A and really haven’t given it the attention it deserves. This video and more importantly your other videos in which you use P2A clearly demonstrates that it is quite capable. So again, thanks. During my limited use of the app I have yet to figure out how to get it to warn me of nearby traffic. Clearly I’m missing something in the setup…I’m just not sure what.
I haven’t been in congestion for some time. I’ll see if I can put together a demo of it over the next week or two, and if I find it’s not working at the moment, I’ll work it out with the dev. It should work fine but it’s been a bit since I’ve had to encounter it.
Thanks for the response and the kind offer. I wasn't expecting you to go that far, but it is much appreciated. It is likely a simple matter of pilot error on my part 🙂
@p I'd like to be confident that its not broken and that I'm not making false claims ;) There was a point in the past that it wasn't working for me but I thought I got that all working again, but its been a bit.
I tried p2a years back with xp11. Iirc it was installation that seemed overly complicated and kept me from using it. (even watching the video it seems like too much DIY for a $60 program installation wise. ). I ended up But I may try it again as I wait for batc. I appreciate that it is an option.
@@bluebrus first, people shouldn’t be using simplaza. Addons take time to make and Devs deserve their compensation to put food on their tables. And yeah, you need to run maketaxiways anytime an airport changes if you wish to use that airport, and as you say, then run the TaxiMnt for taxiways and gateways. Hope you found the vid useful and cheers.
@@bluebrus Yeah, I understand a lot of people use it that way and buy what they like which is preferable to not buying at all. I still feel that’s a decision a developer has the right to make as to trial periods. Certainly a lot of garbage addons out there and the vetting isn’t great. Seems like something is missing in the system but I have no hope for an alternative. I get what you’re saying.
P2ATC allows flight plan edit from its ui, which also shows a live flight plan map with traffic! Beyondatc lacks this. For now ill stick with P2ATC, its editable, reliable and the only thing it lacks is AI traffic control, since you can get cleared to land with traffic approching/on runway and then get a late go around call! 😅
I’m definitely waiting for at least for basic VFR services. P2atc works pretty well for me and while I am very much looking forward to better voices, I don’t want to trade a fuller atc experience for them. At least for now, BeyondATC is better in some respects but certainly not others. I probably won’t play around with this early access version and just wait for the slightly fuller implementation which looks like it will be exactly what I want…. just in 2025.
@@fauxflights77 Couldn't be a wrong-er guess . It's the "robot voice" that puts me off. When MFS has connection problems and switches to that garbage voice is enough to end my flight. @fauxflights77 BeyondATC's responses/instructions are not AI-generated, they are "canned" and based on procedures. AI is used for the voices themselves and the voice recognition. SayIntentions has a delay in response because it uses ChatGPT to respond.
Yeah no thanx, that's not what I want to hear when talking to ATC. I will wait for Beyond ATC. Even Beyond ATC's offline voices sound better than that. That sounded like a bad ATIS recording. I'll wait lol. Like the saying goes, you get what you pay for. I'd rather no ATC than listen to that.
Yeah, its not for everyone. I too am hoping to jump to Beyond ATC but I've not yet seen their traffic implementation and that could be a weight around the neck of that thing. The delays in SayIntentions is too much for me and the default sim ATC wasn't cutting it for me. I'd rather have prompt and generally correct directions with my taxiways/SIDS/STARs actually matching what I''ve got loaded and none of the others I've seen could deliver on that.
