Behind the Scenes with My Shelly Controlled Solar Swimming Pool Pump

  • In this video I am showing you my solar swimming pool pump installation. It consists of three 310W monocrystalline solar panels and a 72V DC, 11.5Amp, 16 cubic meters an hour solar pool pump. The pump has an in-built regulator, to regulate the power to 72 volt. It is plumbed in parallel with the old AC pool pump, so I can use either of them if I want. But since the DC pump is running on free solar energy, I prefer using it most of the time. I use the AC pump on cloudy days when there is not enough energy to run the solar pump, but that is very rare. I wired a Shelly 1 relay switch to the pump which allows me to connect to it and control it remotely via the Internet using the Shelly app and Home Assistant. I use scenes to automate the running of my solar pool pump. My scenes run as follows: at 11AM, turn on the pump and send me a notification on my phone. Then, at 5PM, turn off the pump and send me a notification on my phone. During the summer, these times change, since the day is a lot longer and more sunlight is available.
Thank you for watching my video. Feel free to leave a comment or a question and I will try to help. Don't forget to like and subscribe for more videos.

Cool if you live in a sunny part of the world.

Hi great system. I have a similar system and want to add a timer. I have a control box (with printed circuits inside) that the solar panels connect to and regulates the pump. There is an in off switch on the control box. Can you suggest a timer I could attach to the switch. Just want a basic timer don't need an Internet one. Thanks!

Hi, can you please send me the link of solar panels you purchased? Much appreciated.

Pamela Burroughs, I purchased three 310 watt monocrystalline panels, I don't have a link to them anymore. Manufacturer recommends using the pump with four 250-280 watt solar panels. I use three 310 watt monocrystalline panels because of lack of space and it works well most of the time. When it is very cloudy, the pump will run slower, but apart from that, no issue. So just get any four 280 watt panels if you have space to install them and you should be fine.

Hello, Can you advise on electric parts you bought for security on internet like amazon ?

What type of security, are you thinking about alarms? Sensors?

@@zoltar99 I'm thinking of human security during working on panels or on the pump (plumber) , just circuit-cutting ?

@@wildjumanji You could buy a little waterproof electrical
box and install a DC breaker.

@@zoltar99 Is there an installation notice in the kit on amazon...do you have an electric notice please ?

@@wildjumanji you only connect it to a 12 volt transformer, you can connect it either way, it will still work, no need for installation instructions.
