    Love it! Do you have it running through the filter? Or just recirculating?

    Perfect! I will be installing a 4m x 8m pool in a few months and wait to purchase a solar power system. I was told to wait for the pool and pumps to be installed before installing a solar power system. This would mean I'd need both AC and DC pumps; like yours. Our electric bill (in Thailand) is already too high and adding a pool will be more expensive! A off-grid (no batteries) solar power system seems to make (cents) sense.

    I know this video is a year old, but I'm looking to do a solar set up for my pump. Looking at the solar pump also. My question is, what keeps the pump from getting too much charge/ power from the panels?

    • @netwrench6570
      @netwrench6570 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was wondering the same thing, since there is no separate charge controller. Keep in mind the breaker will trip if there is too much coming in from the panels. I wonder whether there is a built-in controller on the pump. The other issue is sags/minimum pump voltage.

    why would you need to run pumps at night? I have a 40,000L 10566 gallon pool, and I only need to run the pump for 6 hours a day summer and 3 hours in winter.
    do you have a link to the the pump you purchased please?
    I have 3kw of spare panels I can put to use doing this.

    Hi I live in CA and I have a pool that takes 39,000 gallons, my pool is about 19'by 38' and rectangler. right now our electric bill is over 500 a month. I do have solar but only about 10 panels, but I have been wanting to do this to my pool, I like that you don't use a converter. but I don't have the wall that you have but I have a make-shift patio, but would like to know the cost but I also know that I would need more than 3 panels I would really like to do this have any ideas of how many panels I would. need. you did an awesome job and I need to do something like this. thank you so much, Rafaela Sandoval aka Thumper

    Confirmed my need for a proof of concept, thanks. I have recently replaced the house solar system with a new system after 11years. The system worked fine and has more than paid for itself, I just wanted a more modern and more efficient system with WIFI monitoring.
    What to do with the old system? Run the pool pump DC to DC from the old system's panels. I have 14x190w panels or 2.6kw to play with and a roof that faces in the direction to get midday to late afternoon sun so it all seems to stack up as a good plan.
    I am just checking with the ENERGY provider to make sure that I will not break any laws etc and incur their wrath. I've been told by the recent solar installer to check with them first because if they notice a drop in my usage and then perform a photo audit of my rooftop and see the extra panels, even though the extras are DC to DC for the pool pump, the energy supplier will remove my generous feed in tariff and then ask questions later. Then I will get audited and faf around to prove my innocence. Its a mad, mad world.....

    Hi from Spain. I am really impressed with your practical knowledge, application and how hard you work. You are fortunate in the US that electricity costs "only pennies" off peak. In Spain right now I have to pay 0.32 Euro / Kw. ( 35 US cents per Kw.) off peak, the high tariff is 0.54 Euro /Kw.( 60 US cents per Kw.) Electricity prices have increased nearly 3 times in the past year. It is now very expensive to run a pool pump and that is why I was interested in your presentation. Thank you for being so honest at the end, at the outset I thought 3 was insufficient, I have been told I need 6 and the capital cost in total about Euro 7,000 (8,000 US). I need to give serious thought to Solar Panels for the pool pump. In Spain we also experience very high Summer temperatures very similar to the 111 F.(44 C) you mentioned. Kind regards, John.

    At Video marker 6:09 - 12:26 I reference the positive wire routed to the positive terminal and the negative routed to negative terminal on the pump. However, after having a great conversation over the phone today with Michael, the owner of solarpool.com, Somehow I missed the instructions on wiring the motor in reverse polarity as the impeller inside the pump needs to run in the opposite direction for proper water flow. DC motors can turn in either direction by simply changing the polarity of the wiring.

    I am attempting to set up a electric generator system attached directly to my inground pool filter pump water outlet side. I want to use it to generate enough 220v 60hz current to feed back into the system to slightly offset the cost of running the pump during filtering of the pool.... Or.... generate enough 110v 60hz current to power an electric heater to help heat the pool cutting down on propane pool heating costs.
    So, what I think I need:
    1. is to find a reasonably priced high-volume/low resistance water pump (possibly centrifugal),
    2. tied to or mounted on a pump motor or car alternator and somehow converted to a generator,
    3. Run that current through an appropriate inverter that can also output either the 220v or 110v AC at 60hz.
    4. Then use that current to either run an electric pool heater at 1500 - 2000w or
    5. Used in conjunction with 3 or 4 car 12v batteries,
    6. back-feed the captured current back into the system.????
    Any thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated!!!!
    I am trying to do this on a budget.
    I also realize and understand energy loss and entropy and the 1st and 2nd Laws, so I am only trying to recapture a portion of energy that is currently wasted.
    So far, I have thought about employing the use of a "jet well pump", or a centrifugal pump and running them in reverse of designed flow???

Is it wise to buy a 2 speed motor to replace the one speed motor for energy saving when I just want to circulate my chemicals in the water???? BTW. I have an 8 jet spa and when valved off the spa has one separate jet that acts as a pool a overflow water fall while the pool is in valved for circulation and skimming. I also have a return separately valved for my polaris pressure side cleaner that i run as needed . In this 15000 gallon pool with a 10 person spa.

Can the panels ever produce more power than needed?

    • @TheRainHarvester

      well, even with our high californian electricity rates ($0.43/kWh in worst-case scenario) running a 200W pool pump for 8 hours a day costs me ~$.68 per day. If I run it full year in the same mode, it will make $4000 after ~16 years -- this is a pretty long break-even period. But actually winters require much less circulation, and I doubt the solar pump can work 8 hours per day full year at full 200W, so the real break-even period will be easily >20 years, probably exceeding the panels lifetime.

    • @TheRainHarvester
      @TheRainHarvester ปีที่แล้ว

      @@onebronx a 200W pool pump is very very small. Are you sure its not really 2000Watt?

    • @onebronx

      @@TheRainHarvester 200W is not an installed power, but the power consumed at the most economic low RPM. I have a variable-speed pump and I run it at a lower speed but longer time, which is the most optimal mode.
