I've been at a Walmart DC the last 4 months jam running the conveyers but might try to move to a yard driver position down the line, or maybe maintenance.
Cool. Good info. I was trained for reefer OTR but have an application for yard driver on property with Walmart. Do they train on backing their way ? Hope you still with it.
Yes. They will surely train you on whatever you don’t know. But if you know how to work a reefer unit, then that’s just less time you’d need to be watched or monitored.
I know someone who had a CDL & was a lease owner/operator with his own truck for awhile. Does not have an active CDL now but is interested in this kind of position. QUESTION: So, is having truck driving experience the only qualification... or ... "is a CDL required?".
To my understanding , no knowledge is required! Ever DC is different and have their own qualifications as to who they are willing to accept. I would say, apply where you can and see what happens!
@@MusiqSoulBoii thank you....I'm gonna look into this next summer. I'll have 2 years under my belt Class A CDL holder. I run OTR/Regional/Dedicated Routes.
Yes. It sounds crazy but I assure you, you’ll be starting off very well. No. Experience doesn’t reflect pay. I started at $17 three years ago. And we get bonuses multiple times throughout the year as well as yearly raises.
How do raises work? How much of raises have you obtained since hired if you can state the dollar difference please! I am a yard driver at Fedex.. would like to know if they offer you OT or others take your place once the job is done. Thanks ! Like the informational video
Thanks for viewing. For the DC that I work for I’ve been blessed to receive atleast a $5 raise (all together) over the past two years. We do have seasonal bonuses during peak season like the holidays and new year’s. We’ve even had pay incentives to influence others to come to work. As far your personal raise, you get 3 in total. One at 6 months , 12 months and 24 months. Each DC will vary as to how much, depending on your region. As far as OT, during the peak season, it won’t be a problem, but during regular months it’s strictly being monitored. I’m blessed to receive unlimited OT only because I work second shift and no one else wants to work outside with me. I usually work 10-12 hours nights. 4 days on 3 off. With you having experience already, like myself as a former OTR driver, it should get you in the door quickly. Just depends on what location you are looking to work for. Really good money to be made that’s for sure!
Really good. In my opinion. Depending the area you are in and the demand, you looking at starting pay around $18.00/hr. You also get full benefits. Paid time off (once you’ve accumulating enough) and warehouse incentives!
@@MusiqSoulBoii what I’m looking at on the website says off property and city. I’m assuming you don’t do that? Also has a list of duties like custodian and maintenance do you have those duties? Thanks for the response. That you know of is there (where could I find it) a general recruiting number?
I am a local intermodal driver looking into target or Walmart yard driver. I’m in California and the only yard positions is called “yard driver/city driver” I’m not trying to drive in the city. Some amazon yard guy told he gets paid 17$ an hr smh.
Yeah. The pay will most likely start around 17$/hr but with regular raises every 3 months. You could be at 20$/hr or more after a couple of years. I would suggest you still apply for the job and when you get a call just specify that you want to stay on the yard. I apply for another position and actually got this one.
If you wanna work for target, over here in socal, Ruan and lazerspot has the yard, I was with Lazer then made the jump to Ruan(way better), Lazer pays $18now, Ruan pays 19.50day/ 20nights

That's awesome man!! I hope that you would embrace the journey and fight thru the hardship to get to your goal. Be safe out there, keep me updated. How well can you back>?
Not necessarily, but it’s a good idea to work at a quick pace ahead of the loaders inside so they are not waiting for you refill the dock doors with another empty trailer. There is a specific time each trailer must loaded tho. Normally it’s a 6 hour window per truck, on average they are loaded within a few hours.
What the heck is a yard and city driver? Just saw it online and it sounds like some bs to me. Being a yard dog and making local runs smh that's terrible
Well being a Yard Driver is self explanatory! You only drive on the property! A city driver is someone who delivers from the a warehouse to a particular store within city limits.
