I’m not an Emo, I’m a Thrasher but *respect if you want to be respected!* now go the fuck away and cry with mommy and don’t come in ‘ere and don’t come and get our minds full of shit! It’s just like an expired vegetable! When you put an expired vegetable next to many fresh vegetables what happens? They also get expired and poopy! That’s the same shit with you! We are fresh and beautiful, but then you come and we get fucked up! Respect other cultures and don’t come here just for that and hate people! Cause then you get hated! What you do, you get it back!

      @Ephedr1n 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

well, he actually put them into the correct ranges - what was missing was a recommendation for beginner guitars (below 200 bucks I'd say). The 400 version was his recommendation for the first "next level" guitar - and you won't see a lot of options in that price/quality range.
I liked the point about the versatility of a strat, by the way. I actually started with a 100€ strat by a no-name brand more than ten years ago. When I got better, I started replacing the parts..another neck, other pickups etc, piece by piece whenever I was able to afford something. The only thing left original is the body (which was okay from the beginning)..and I love this thing until today. I've got one or two better guitars today - But this is the guitar I'm enjoying the most.
Too bad I'm just a bad player ;)

I record my own music, so whenever I buy a guitar, I think of these categories, and what the guitar I want is in:
1: humbucker, conventional. Stuff like SGs, 335s, Les Pauls, PRSs, basically. They're in my opinion the most versatile, since you can play anything from the blues to grindcore, or shoegaze, or whatever it is you want.
2: single coil, conventinoal. Your strats, teles and jaguars. You just can't get that single coil bite with a humbucker, so naturally you'll want something that can deliver that kind of a tone.
Guitar one or two is going to be "the one." It's a guitar that lets you play the most comfortably, and gives you your favorite tone.
3: the workhorse. Something you won't lose sleep over when it gets dinged up, and you can just throw around without worrying about it getting stolen. Mostly for gigging and rehearsing. It's the Les Paul Studio for me.
4: acoustic. Everyone needs one. It's great for songwriting and performing, especially since you can play both alone or with a band unlike an electric.
3:the "weird" one. Anything from a djent stick to a danelectro 12-string. Just something that does something crazy and weird, that allows you to express something you just can't with a regular guitar.

Yeah, I think my actual list would be something like this:
    1. Something that has fairly high gain capabilities, and humbuckers. Possibly also get something with a coil split for added versatility, with two volume and two tone knobs.
    2. A strat type guitar with single coils. Doesn't have to be all single coils, could be an HSS or it could be three single coils. Just so you can get more of a bluesy or strat type sound.
    3. An acoustic electric with a cutaway. Recommend the cutaway for better playability, and acoustic-electric for if you actually want to use it to plug into something.
If you just get those three guitars you have like 90% of your bases covered, you can cover just about anything you'd want to cover, and you could probably get all 3 for under $1,000 if you buy used.

Yes, those 3 cover a lot and the addition of some kind of nylon string acoustic and a bass make for a bullet proof top 5. I also think that for at home guitar players at least, everyone should consider purchasing a mandolin before going for a 3rd or 4th electric.

    You know why.
    #2 - *Les Paul*
That heavy sound and feel, you just need it.
    #3 - *Mustang*
A short scale guitar, tuned a half step down and loaded with .10 gauge strings, sounds raw and "twangy" at the same time. Unique.
    #4 - *A Superstrat/Floyd Rose Guitar*
Cause I know you love metal, don't try to fool me xD
    #5 - *Jaguar*
Are you going to surf? Mine makes me feel in the 60's. Pick up a Surf Green one for extra power.

My list of essential guitars for rock players (in no particular order, and from my collection):
    1) Fender Telecaster - that's where it all started. The working man's guitar with that classic twang.
    2) Fender Strat - Fender's 2nd masterpiece. From Hendrix to Yngwie, it's versatile and timeless.
    3) Gibson Les Paul - I can still hear the sustain from yesterday! Plus, no guitar screams "rock star" more.
    4) PRS Custom 24 (core series) - just a masterpiece. I have never picked up a guitar that felt more natural to play.
    5) Ibanez Prestige RG - super shred machine! Alternatively, any Jackson or Charvel USA made guitar, but I had to put the Prestige up front because it's an amazing value.

    • @oliver.7400

This is so true^ but I’d add a gretsch hollowbody or a semi like a 335 instead of the Ibanez

    • @Remmy0930
      @Remmy0930 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

For ROCK and METAL players I would recommend...
1.ESP Horizon (NOT LTD...the Japanese built ESP's) in place of a Fender Strat
2.ESP Eclipse (NOT LTD...the Japanese built ESP's) in place of a Gibson Les Paul
      3.Ibanez RG Prestige
      4.Gibson Flying V
      5.Jackson Rhoads 24
These are contemporary takes on classic guitars...aimed at metal players. Don't scold me for not including Fenders or a Les Paul. There are certain guitars that are better suited for metal players in todays era...Fender Stratocasters, Telecasters, Les Pauls, or PRS's are not the best guitars for metal anymore...there are modern takes on these classic designs that suit the rock and metal players better. ESP, Ibanez, Jackson, and Schecter are at the top of the heap today for these genres of music.

Easy answer really, whatever guitars you like. I'm an SG and Stratocaster guy I dont really like les paul's, PRS guitars etc and really I dont NEED them. Now im not saying dont go out and buy different guitars if you like them, but dont make the mistake I did where I thought "ohh i need a p90 guitar, a 335, a gibson acoustic and a guild". Simply because you may only play it once for one song or a few times for years and years, then even if you do sorry to say, there is no magic tone there, you just end up sounding like yourself (I did anyway). So just make sure you like the guitar you are buying and that you will play it often. If its a cheap guitar then thats fine but if you are splashing out dough please consider how much you are going to actually play it, and if you actually like it and not because it has p90's you have to get it. You will be kicking yourself for basically having a very expensive wall feature.

    • @FletchForPres08
      @FletchForPres08 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Well put. You like what you like, even if it's only one thing. Don't get something just because you feel like you should. You won't end up using it. And besides, these days, with the nearly endless array of guitar, amp, and pick-up configurations available, you can make anything sound like anything anyway. So play what you like.
It's also worth noting that what you're into can change over time. For years, I wasn't an SG guy (I had owned a few, but I always ended up selling them), and one day, I found a used one, and it just clicked. I now play that guitar more than my LPs, and if you had told me even a year or two ago that that would happen, I would have said no way.

really depends on what styles of music you want to play eg punk blues rock country = a telecaster will be pretty good,, rock blues anything else = a strat,, heavy rock metal a gibson lp or sg or ibanez rg ...... but to be honest you can play any style on any guitar so my advice is to try as many as you can and pick whatever not only sounds best to you ( sound can be modded by pedals ) but what feels best ,, if you lift a guitar and it feels easy to play ,, buy it ,,you can swap out pickups ,,
mim strats and teles are less than $500 new and are good............. also consider good condition 2nd hand gear ,,,, hope this helps a bit

Recently I finished paying off and took home my Fender Vintera 50s modified strat, beautiful guitar and my first full size strat with all single coils.

I've really learned that you don't have to spend thousands on a great guitar. Guitarcenterused.com etc love me. I buy mine super cheap and build them up. Most guitars can come alive with just little changes. Proper set ups, maybe upgraded pups, or a upgraded bridge etc.

My issue with the CE is the thin neck. I like the neck on the S2 much better. Also the S2 line has a nice variety of guitars, with the CE you only have one choice, the CE. Speaking of "choice" If the the CE is a bolt-on then they should offer a choice of neck profiles.

Awesome video, as usual. My needs are a little different though. As a non rock star working musician who needs to keep working, I need to cover a wide spectrum of sounds. My recommendation are as follows
1- Fender Telecaster. Much more versatile than a Strat IF you know what a tone knob is. My main is a custom build specked after a late 50's tele.
2- Fender Strat. Stuff comes close, but nothing sounds quite like a Strat in the "in between" positions. Again, my main is a custom build that's a copy of an original I owned when you could afford to own and work with originals.
3- Gibson Les Paul. I have a 2007 classic that's my main, but really any humbucker with a maple cap will do. I also use slightly under wound pickups in my Les Pauls. I like the way the highs sparkle with them.
4- Gibson SG. I find it just different enough to warrant owning one along with a Paul. Again, I'm not using stock pickups but customs that are slightly under wound compared to the modern stuff. The year is 2007 on my main. I like the necks from that year.
5- Gibson 335 or 345. I like both. I own a 335 but I like the varitone switch on the 345. A producer I worked with had a vintage 345 and really got me in to them. Stock Gibson pickups in this one. I only own one 335 but I'd love to pick up a 345TD in the future.
I also have two acoustic steel strings, an Eastman E10D and P, and other instruments as well like a lap steel and some mandolins. There's also a few more Starts and Tele's and Paul's floating around, but those 5 are my mains.
It's interesting to read theses posts and see how Subjective it all is. Everything in my post reflects the needs of my circumstances and should certainly be taken with as much salt as needed.

When I was a 7 yr old kid i played a chinese strat imitation. When I was 10, my dad bought me a Gibson SGJ 2014, which I use everyday. It wasn't really expensive, but levelled me up massively. Like 4 months ago I realised I have ENOUGh money to buy a strat. I found one on OLX which was a mexican 2018 strat. It was in a Lombard. I bought it, it's polar white finish. It's just GREAT. I first wanted to play u2 on it, but Hendrix, John Mayer AND practice routine won. With my SG and my strat I'm the happiest pearson living.

I have 13 guitars out of them my favorite is my SG, but my Les Paul and stats are very versatile. When playing rock or metal (and not my SG or LP) I have a Jackson Kelly Pro, a BC Rich Warlock, or my Dean Angel of Death Dave Mustane Signature series II. For newer guitarists on a budget I'd recommend either Epiphone or Squire, they are good quality, sound and playability for the price.

Based on over forty years of experience playing in bands, worship services, and as a solo artist, if you want to be a well-rounded guitar player with a versatile arsenal, I would recommend the following (with my personal guitars in parentheses):
    1. A quality steel string acoustic with solid wood construction. (Gibson J45 and CL20)
    2. A quality nylon string acoustic with solid wood construction. (Ibanez AE 450)
    3. A solid body humbucker electric. (Gibson Les Paul and SG)
    4. A single coil electric. (Fender Strat and Tele)
    5. A hollow-body, or semi-hollowbody, electric. (Gretsch 5120 and Epiphone Wildkat Royale)
I have my favorite brands, but there are so many good manufacturers these days that it's hard to go wrong if you buy from a reputable dealer. No amount of money spent on an electric guitar will make up for a crappy amp, but a good amp will help a mediocre guitar sound a LOT better.

Here's my top 5, along with the reasons why you need them:
1: Strat (you *obviously* need a Strat; case closed!)
2: Les Paul (you also MUST have a Les Paul, Gibson or Epiphone; end of discussion!)
3: Some kind of Super Strat with a locking tremolo (I have a Schecter Sun Valley Super Shredder but you can get an Ibanez RG, an ESP M-II, a Kramer Pacer; whichever's your cup of tea. This one is for your inner metalhead... or if you're playing at an 80's-themed event.)
4: Some kind of hollow/semi-hollow guitar (I got a Fender Modern Player Starcaster, you can get an Epiphone Dot, Casino or Rivera, an Ibanez As-123, a Gibson ES-335; whatever you like best. One of these is *essential* for crystal-clean Jazz or slow power ballads.)
And 5: Some kind of crazy-shaped guitar (my favorites are the Gibson Explorer, the Schecter Avenger & Synyster Gates model, the Jackson Rhoads and the Carvin V220 but once again, you can choose whichever crazy-shaped guitar you like best. Why would you need something like this? Sometimes you're gonna wanna stand out onstage; what better way to do that than with a crazy-looking axe!)
Also, honorable mention: Some kind of 7-string (this one's only an honorable mention because I understand not everyone needs a 7-string; they are fun though.)

I have an '84 rick 330 that I've owned since 1990. It's brilliant, and is the one thing I own that I'd run into a burning building to save! I sold a Jap Squier Strat and a mid 60s Eko semi to get it and while I've bought and sold other guitars since (Fender Jazzmaster, Telecaster, Gordon Smith, Hofner Verythin, Dean Sarasota) I will always hang on to the Ric. It's more versatile than people say, metal is the only thing it really can't do as the pickups aren't high gain enough for full on shredding, and the lack of tremolo arm if such a thing is important (I haven't tried but suspect it doesn't djent). I'm primarily an indie rocker from my youth, but I've played blues, funk, jazz, reggae, country, lead and rhythm with it, including a passable Santana impression at a local pub jam.
A lot of Rics, like Gibsons and PRS's, are wallhangers for lawyers and doctors, but not mine, it's got 3 decades of bumps, scratches, chips and fret-wear to prove it. The only downside is a refret, which my guitar seriously needs, costs a fortune because of the heavily lacquered fingerboard.
Still can't figure out the point of that stupid 5th knob though.

Save the money, meanwhile study the music theory, staff notations, etc. when you have enough money, just get a well built guitar, no need for any expensive stuff, I'll suggest go for a used one if you can. If its not setup properly check with any local luthier and get it done at an affordable rate. And get a good parametric eq pedal if you can before going for an amp.

I wouldn't buy any of those (except maybe the Danelectro) for various reasons (don't like single-cuts, sharp edges on body, lack of arm carve, volume knob too close to pickup, overpriced, badunkadunk too big (PRS S2), etc.). Give me a Tele, a SuperStrat (Charvel San Dimas, Jackson Dinky Pro, etc.) and a Strat with the volume knob moved away from the pickup.
