      Thank you. I have tried to keep things as real as possible in these videos, and film the successes and failures. That's why I pulled out the camera when I was grumpy and made that video. Looking back at it, I do seem a little over the top, but it was the heat of the moment. I'm still glad I did it because It's an accurate snapshot of that pont in the project.

    Back in the day ( 70's to late 80's as far as I know) every back yard bike mechanic would use bits of old guitar strings to clean carbs. if it had a hole in it then we were shoving hardened steel threw those brass and aluminum holes........we ruined a lot of bits and pieces and even whole carb body's........we didn't have the internet, we had the guy down the street who had a friend who had a cousin who knew everything and it's what he recommended...... and everyone was doing it from the Harley guys down to the mini bike kids.......at least we didn't eat laundry soap

      The much older, better known trick is using old throttle cable strands since there were far fewer musicians than bikers. Must be a regional thing. Old car guys bought and used guitar strings for cutting out used auto glass (held between vise grips) which works well with practice, but every biker had used cables to cut up.

  • @leiningermd

    Awesome videos sir!!! I’m a huge KDX fan. They’re great bikes. I’ve had both a 91 and I currently own a 02 220. As one motor cycle fan to another if you ever get around to swapping the crank seals on that engine I wanted to pass on a little knowledge I’ve picked up along the way. Kawasaki made a tool to wedge between the counterweights that keeps the crank squared up as you put the cases back together. Factory guys told me that they did not actually use this tool putting the engine together in the factory when they built the bikes. This info came from factory race team crew chief back in the late 90’s. He said the best way to wake up a Kawasaki 2 stroke was to true the crank or put a new one in but to use this tool. I had an issue (my failure to put the air box back together correctly after putting new top end on the engine) with my 91 that resulted with a large amount of sand going through the bottom end. So after a second new top end and a crank the thing ripped way harder on the top end. I’m sure you can use you Macgyver skills to make or find this tool and I’m sure you can figure how to correct the runout on original crank when you get to doing the main seals. I’m sure you’ll do them one day but I wanted to pass that knowledge along. I really enjoy your videos. Please keep it going.

    I use chinese knock off from time to time for small engine repair, 70% of the time their carburetors work fine, both 2 cycle and 4 cycle. The reason the chinese ones jet was different size , is so it's not just like oem for legal ressons. I bet if that carburetor could have been adjusted a little richer , it probably been good. Good video btw

    THOSE JETS ARE ALL WRONG!!!! So is the needle clip position.
    Start with 42-45 Pilot jet and a 155 Main jet. I used a 42.
    As far as the needle I used a Sudco CGK 017.018 they also make a DGK 017.030. Most guys use the CGK one though, it has the best overall performance.
    Google the needle clip position. I can't remember the best spot.
    Sudco sells everything. You will have to change it up a little depending on altitude.

      You could try making a nitrogen generator to run it on. Maybe you could connect it to the 12v output and see if it could create it's own gas. I don't think that's how physics work but you could try it. And if not you could use a solar panel or something.

    I realize you really would like to know which carb gives the better performance and/or fuel economy. But to do that, each carb has to have the exact same jets in place and a metered container that runs for longer then a few seconds. A long run after each carb has been turned for the engine and the engine warmed up, would offer a much better comparison. Too easy to make wrongful assumption with such quick tests like you're presently doing. JMHO But I do like to watch you make such experiments all the same.

Great video I have enjoyed them for the past five to six months starting with your portable generator rebuild. I do truly enjoy the banter between husband and wife. Thanks

    I'm spending a lazy Sunday afternoon in my bed and I roll over and pick up my phone and go to TH-cam . You may ask yourself, "self , why is he going to TH-cam?"
    Don't worry about it.
    But I Digest.
    I stumble across the 2 of you with the cow we project.
    And for some strange and bizarre reason I am transfixed watching the 2 of you.
    You're camera presence, humor, and just straight away tweaker ingenuity have me considering the 2 of you like watching a car wreck...you just can't stop looking. Easily an hour and a 1/2 is past and I'm still in bed . I've also subscribed to your channel and requested notifications of your ventures. Has anyone got the piston yet? Cause I will drive out there and dig it up right now if nobody has claimed that. The fin is my prize.

    Here in brazil, you have 3 options:
    get a NOS genuine, for an exorbitant price;
    get a rebuilt one, made like a frankenstein of rebuilt parts;
    and my favorite:
    get the cheapest knockoff you can find and throw genuine parts at it (needle valve, jets, whatever cheap genuine parts you can find).

    love that i found this series, currently rebuilding my 2003 ktm 200 mxc right now, ground up. top and bottom end rebuilt, frame head both side covers powder coated, rock guard on on the swing arm and sent suspension out to be rebuilt but hey paid 500$ for it in total but Ive hit the slump of waiting on parts but this series give me hope one day it will still kick over once again and it will rip fire roads at 60 lol

    Very good video indeed. I have been fighting with a kdx carb problem for months and your video here helped me to figure it out at last. I just got one of those Chinese knockoffs and have been wondering about such things as this was about. You saved me a lot of work and showed me some details about the kdx and carb that I have yet to ever see. You are very good at finding solutions to get measurements. You can work in my shop anytime.
