That tach is designed for a 4 stroke. It’s designed to sense an ignition event every other TDC. Since it is on a 2 stroke, which ignites every TDC, it thinks the engine is running twice as fast as it really is. With the resistors you have set up, it may show correct at a certain speed, it will be exponentially incorrect as it speeds up.
should be fine as long as the tac is a linear based volt meter and it seams to be. what he did with the 2 resistor is half whatever voltage the circuit is putting out aka exactly what your talking about accept in the analog side instead of digital. Or to put it another way he did the equivalent of changing the range switch an old analog meter from 5 to 10v range. One thing I would recommend he glue thous resistors down for vibration ressons but other than that its fine.
I don't think he's honestly that bothered about it. I think it's more for cosmetics than anything else. It moves roughly with the engine speed that's all you want on a run-about two stroke right?
Well it's ABOUT TIME! Been watching and waiting for what seems like years. So glad to see it finished. Glad camera girl has stuck with you. She's a keeper. Looking forward to the next project. It's been a fun ride. Best wishes to you and yours. Thanks for sharing.

I offered to make you a little circuit to fix the tach problem, and you solved it with a couple resistors, impressive, most people wouldn't have bothered trying that. What you made is a voltage divider, and the fact it seems to have worked at two different engine speeds (3000 and 5000 rpm) so that tach is linear, if it wasn't that wouldn't have worked. And because you used two resistors the same value you halfed the voltage going to the needle. Really well done overcoming your problems.
Awesome job man..i grew up with a kx 80 to a kx 125 then the kdx 200..watching you through the process of finding fixing and modifying your bike spending time doing what you love with who you love takes me back to a better time
I just got to drive my uncles KDX it was the first model that came out and it was a pain to start but my god does it go. Watch out for 2nd gear and try not to pop he front up to high.
Inside the instrument tack gauge there should be an adjustable variable resistor so you can adjust the speed of the tachometer. A resistor resists electrical current and dissipates the current off in heat. Thus equaling a minute voltage drop as well as overall current drop as well. Lowering the response of the needle in this case. Should of used another adjustable resistor in line with the ground or the hot wire, not stabbed in between the ground and the positive lead. That only reduces the resistance by half then. in series the resistors add together in parallel they should be half but able to handle more current, than in series.
DAMN!....I am hooked on your videos! You had me hooked from the start to the finish, and the process is absolutely amazing! I did a quick search and you can get 2 stroke tacho's most seem to be digital but not all of them.
should be fine as long as the tac is a linear based volt meter and it seams to be. what he did with the 2 resistor is half whatever voltage the circuit is putting out aka exactly what your talking about accept in the analog side instead of digital. A single cylinder 4 stroke also fires every rotation. It’s known as a wasted spark. So not sure that’s the answer.
I don't think he's honestly that bothered about it. I think it's more for cosmetics than anything else. It moves roughly with the engine speed that's all you want on a run-about two stroke right?
I was a worried about that, but it reads good all the way down to idle, So it should be reasonable accurate. Thanks for the comment.

At 1:50 when he said that he wanted to heat up the aluminum i thought he was gonna do it with his truck exhaust lmao idk why
