    Mr. Davids, first of all, thank you so much! I want to play this song so badly, but I find myself completely lost here, looking at the tabs and trying to follow you... I am a beginner and if I had any money, I'd throw it at you and your courses... But alas, TH-cam videos is all I have. What am I missing here? I've never had so much trouble understanding any other tutorials. Maybe you made this one for professionals?

      I like Paul David's videos a lot, and I'm watching them all, trying to learn what I can. But there's surprisingly little practical material presented that actually is useful for beginners. Even when he calls something easy, it's almost always not.

    I would urge anyone who's struggling with this to persevere, as it sounds and looks a whole lot more complicated than it is, and is so so much fun to play. If you can play it slow, you can play it fast!
    I've been following the other channel for years, and will be following this one, as I mainly play acoustic fingerstyle. If you read this Paul, thank you so much for all of the truly amazing teaching work over the years. I would recommend the intermediate course for those wanting to take things to the next level too. It was a fantastic way to spend the first UK lockdown, was worth every penny, and has given me a skill for life. Great beard as always too!

    Paul Davis has excellent teaching skills. He puts the notes and he puts the tab and he shows you how to play it. That way you don’t get confused and you don’t see Jess fingers and knuckles going all over the fingerboard mini teachers on TH-cam teach this method You can’t tell what they’re doing close up or not you can’t tell. No wonder beginners get confused Paul Davis you’re a beautiful teacher. Thanks for your video. I love it that’s the way you teach music the way you teach it.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🎸🎼🎶👍🏼💖😎

      I totally agree that this is a fascinating song. My guess is it's because Dylan wrote it before he'd really mastered standard patterns of fingerstyle. Hence, his weird choices for the base line. But the result really works and I think it's because of that fact. Paul Davids unique greatness is different, though, as he brings style to many, often otherwise common, things. Still, I'd be very interested in his thoughts on that song.

    • @pattondan
      @pattondan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you've put heavier strings than were on it before then the action will probably be too high (bigger gap between strings and fretboard at the higher frets), which will make it much harder to play. If that's the case, either go back to lighter gauge strings, or tighten the truss rod to lower the action. Better still, pay an experienced guitar technician to set your guitar up properly. It can make a world of difference!
