Agreed. I didn’t play tf2 until years after it’s prime, absolutely fantastic masterpiece of a game. One of the best campaigns I’ve played, and the multiplayer is S tier also.
I downloaded xdefiant, after getting crappy overwatch vibes i deleted it and went on to play titanfall. So far noone did fps better than titanfall. Im really sick of being disappointed by upcoming hot topic fps games that dont deliver.
I think XDefiant is just a side gig for them. So they just let Mark and the team have full creative control. I don't actually think they planned for it to get this much attention.
As much as I doubt that would happen, I would love to be proven wrong. Aiden, Sam, hell even Jason Brodie could really bring out the crossover in XDefiant
I'm gonna at the very least get the battle pass for the sake of supporting it. If we don't want this game to die, it needs to make a profit. That's just how it works. It's definitely not going anywhere soon. Mark Rubin has already said that year 1 content is done, year 2 is being worked on and they're thinking up to year 8

I love slide cancelling in this game. You can slide cancel but you have to jump which forces you to commit to the fight. No more rose skins knockoffs slide cancelling into immediately retreating back into a fuckin dark corner

I think the biggest takeaway from this is what you mentioned a few times - there is MASSIVE and seemingly limitless potential a game can have when the developer prioritizes fun first, live service and all that crap second. It really is so simple. Give gamers something that is truly fun and enjoyable, word will spread like wild fire and the game/dev will reap huge success and most likely far more success than they would from a game that is yet another live service F2P microtransaction littered cash grab sim. Fingers crossed that more devs come back around to this philosophy. It's what made the Xbox 360 and PS3 days the golden era of gaming.
Regarding the Ghost Recon franchise. The first GR game I played was basically unknown and unregconized by the community, it was GR Phantoms. It was also a free-to-play team based shooter, but in 3rd person. The abilities you see in this game (namely 5 of them) given to multiple factions were in fact the GR Phantoms abilities. They also reused 1 map from the old game, Attica Heights. And let me tell you, with GRP being a good chunk of my childhood before it got shutdown, I almost shat my pants when I got to see the name, the old logo, the abilities and the map. It was unspeakably nostalgic for me. I hope they choose more maps from GRP, as the maps were fantastic, I loved every single one of them.

Ubisoft just allowed Mark Rubin to do his thing and gave him full range to do whatever he wants with xdefiant. I mean they literally gave him all access to ALL of Ubisoft’s IPs. from what ive heard the executive developer of x defiant is the same executive developer from the og mw3 days so thats probably why the game feels so good

The guy in charge of production of XDefiant is Mark Rubin. The same Mark Rubin who was the executive director for Call of Duty from the original Modern Warfare all the way to Ghosts.
exactly how i feel about this game. spent like 6hrs non stop on xdefiant. Last time at such length and had so much fun while doing it was black ops 1 :D
Yeah this is so fun to do especially when you can easily switch from one faction to another after every death. It just adds more variety of gameplay and creates that element of surprise.
The hit reg needs work Its fucked me up more than a few times now Aside from that, this is much better than cod. Just wish more people had mics since all the modes are objectives and no one communicates
@@nikkooro3940it’s because there’s no TDM. So all the players who would usually just play for kills are being forced into objective game modes. Im only playing dom and I’ve lost multiple games where the whole enemy team went negative because no one on my team cared about the objective. Myself included.
A game called ‘Ironsight’ could’ve been the first Xdefiant, but they’re not trying to port the game to console for whatever reason. It has a bo2 type of feel with actual killstreaks but they only want to have the game in pc when expanding it to console could easily blow up and give cod some great competition
Somebody screwed up, lied, or a combination of both. Nobody is supposed to release games like this anymore. Where's the missing promised content? Where's the predatory P2W? Where's the broken net code? Where are the Division-esque terrain bugs and missing cover? Where are the community managers there to lie and string the players along? I'm so confused.

I think once the honeymoon phase is over people will see it’s not perfect. Everyone is just so excited to have a new shooter that they have rose colored glasses on.
I mean, it's definitely not perfect they gave a lot to smooth out, but if they stay on point with content and updates, this game has so much potential. We will just see what ubisoft does with it in the future.
In a day and age where for some reason it’s SO DIFFICULT for these companies to understand what their players want, and what is fun, and what is genuinely just a good idea. This game is so awesome. I really hope in a month or two this game is still poppin. This is the kind of game needs to be done more.
I think that Ubisoft will continue to back this game. In terms of the shooter genre their other major hit so far is R6 which is 9 years old and still going strong. R6 recently had another resurgence in 2024 and hit its highest peak player count in its lifecycle. And mind you R6 has had a ton of issues in the last 9 years but Ubisoft has not pulled the plug on it. At 1 or 2 points R6 literally almost died but kept getting revived. Taking that as reference i do hope that we wont have to worry about Xdefiant.
This video so perfectly describes my feelings about it all. Between map voting, no hidden algorithmic matchmaking, movement/gunplay focus, every map having 3 lanes, relatively balanced weapons, endorsement and reaction systems, and so much more... this is everything competitive players in COD have been begging for over what feels like the past 10 years, and what activision has blatantly ignored OR implemented the exact opposites of in deliberate attempts to algorithmically milk another $130 out of their increasingly miserable player base. I stopped playing COD the moment I read Mark Rubin's promises about this game in early development - and to see those promises fulfilled is so refreshing in not just the FPS community, but the gaming community as a whole.
Now imagine how much better it is for me loving Ubisoft as my favorite developer. Having my favorite worlds brought back and mixed together is so awesome. Can't wait for an AC faction in game. Course, I don't do much multi-player gaming since I don't have instant-snap perfect aim from across the map, but it's fun while waiting for AC Shadows!
PREACH!!! My goodness you were speaking to my soul. I was such a 2000s/2010s Ubisoft gamer and FPS player and this harkens back to that. Black Ops has been the only FPS I've stuck with due to the old-school feel and here we finally are. Fingers crossed.

Im having a blast in this game. Im hoping to god this game stays for a long time, and more people play. Ive only been playing FPS shooters since cod 2019 but this is the best FPS shooter since then.
game is fun but also has major problems like; ,hitreg where you die behind solid cover, enemys surving with 2 hp by the 5 bodyshot when each bodyshot does 22 dmg and headshots 33 but you getting insta melted, most weapon attachments are useless like fire rate ,dmg ,range and the recoil ones, fire rate because it doesnt affect the ttk and has massive downsides the dmg one because it boost the bodyshot dmg only by 1 and headshot dmg by 2 points the recoil ones because the gun base recoil is really good even with the movement attachments there for they arent needed range arent needed atleast for ARs and smgs because you fight mostly in close range and midrange with these and they only buff midrange and closerange and not longrange, and the abilities; healer ult abit too strong still in the first beta it was even stronger the passive one is a tiny bit too slow, shield dude has 20hp more than rest which messes up the ttk the barrier barricade can be outplayed by running through it because no punishment for going through it the ult zone shield has the same weakness and is easy too focus fire because both of them have not very high durability, the fire dudes fire ammo passive feels inconsistent maybe because off the hit reg problem and his ult he dies too fast in it too be really useful, the hacker one is 90 percent like copy from 2 specalists in bo4 and has the same problems as these because his crowd control ability's are too oppressive and annoying and doenst belong in a arcade type and competitive shooter and at last the spy faction is op as fuck because their are literal wallhackers with invisibility are more like a too much buffed version of the orbital satellite drone in the blackops games and the only weapons that are a problem are dmrs and shotguns because they support camping and are too easy to use for their ttk i understand that the attachments have to have downsides but some off them too potent in their downsides too be useful balancing is not nerving something too much that it becomes useless or doesn't having an affect at all so it only is a placeholder rather making each as example the attachments similar potent so they support and out weight each other. some of the effects of attachments are listed in the detail listing of the weapons like recoil reset and most off them aren't explained in detail what affect they have in what situation on the weapons.
The game is good!! I hope by season one they add combat tracking for gun kills per gun, more customization camo for guns, and the net code is still not registering hits! And add a gun range to adjust settings. Other than that the game is good
Y'all aren't gonna agree with me. But I think Ubisoft's monetization is generally pretty fair. Ubisoft games are generally packed with a ridiculous amount of optional content to the point where any normal person would get bored before they get through half of it. And as an adult, when I get bored of playing a game, I stop and do something else. That DOESN'T mean that the game was boring or bad up until that point, I've just had my fill of whatever that game was offering. An Ubisoft game has never left me wanting *more* so I've never personally felt the need to spend extra money for more content. But for anyone who absolutely loves the Ubisoft formula, the content is definitely there and if they want to offer a $130 version of the game for people that want Even more content, go for it.
I generally fall pretty in favor of making a larger profit, but the problem people are having with the monetization of games recently is a mismatch between content and cost, as well as detecting shady practices in the way they're marketing/selling stuff. I think Blame Truth pointed this out well in regards to Shadows, but in regards to the higher end "bundles" he said "You're not paying to play the game EARLY, you're paying extra to play the game ON RELEASE." A lot of gamers, including myself, see through that sort of bullshit, even if only subconsciously, and it makes a purchase feel worse than it otherwise would. One particular thing for me is cosmetics; I don't mind cosmetics for purchase, but it pisses me off when these companies try and 'sweeten the deal' of an extra 40 dollars on a game for some exclusive texture that is completely arbitrary to justify said expense. The thing that grinds my gears the most is charging extra money without actual CONTENT, and no cosmetics do NOT count as 'content' to me. For me Ubisoft itself earned my ire with their decision to delete game libraries if you don't log in. Even if they backtracked on that by now, my favor is lost for that one.
I had a great time with this game. I played an escort game mode and the enemy team had it at 99.5% there and with 2 minutes left on the clock my team held them off from reaching the goal and we won.
There needs to be a petition to replace the Ubisoft CEO with someone like Mark Rubin or anyone who understands the process of making games. If Ubisoft took this approach with all its games, understood the value of their IPs they would be way more profitable
The winter Division map (think it was called Dumbo or something) has to be my favorite map in the game. It genuinely feels like a Division 1 location. So I hope they continue these callback maps like this. I'd love to see some maps inspired by AC or Ghost Recon Wildlands.
Don't forget the games crossplay and requires you to make a ubi account to play with players of other platforms, so even if it's on steam you'll probably need one.
Because of all the cheaters in COD and not to mention all the gross characters they’ve added straying so far away from what COD is I’ve pretty much stuck with coop pve games but when I tried this I was hooked. It has honestly been almost 5 years since I’ve played a competitive PVP game like this and I’m always thinking about jumping in to grind one more match. The fact it’s also free is even better. I hope it stays what it is now. Now kill streaks, no extra attachable perks, just pure kill based gun fights
Ubisoft has a good overall track record, in my opinion they just made a few really bad decisions recently. They have so many great games. Only really bad one is skull and bones in my opinion.
Call of Duty bros are infuriating. Mindlessly buying DLC packs for AAA prices, that are just recycled geometry on top of a decades old game engine. I refuse to play any CoD title but I've dropped 69Euros on XDefiant and will drop another 69Euros next month. To show my appreciation.
I thought everyone was tired of specialists and hero type pvp games. i spent all of last night dealing with shitters in the corner invisible, the damn wallhack spam, the god awful main menu UI, the slowish weapon progression designed to sell boosters, the boosters themselves(cant activate them midgame?) the fucking battlepass being shoved into my face after every match and the weird thing where im behind a wall, im at 15 ping and i still die. but other than that it was a barrel of fun i ended up playing for 5 hours straight without noticing, oh wait the attachment system, why does adding a lower zoom scope(therefore lighter) trash my ads speed on snipers? -25% ads speed for going down to an 8x instead of 12x? why is the variable zoom the scope that doesnt have the ads penalty.
It took them this long for this game to come out because it was a completely different game compared to now and they developed the game with direct feedback from the community, fixing the issues and incorporating the suggestions. The only reason you know that it took them this long is because they were transparent and communicative about it. No point in being mad about it not coming sooner, it's here now, so let's just enjoy it. Edit: want me to make you even more bittersweet?? Attica Heights is in the game with almost similar layout.
Oh shotguns must definitely be fixed. Right now they are broken and that's why it feels like they won't do anything beyond point-blank. But more than that, the netcode issues the game has right now has any shotgun but the double barrel being useless. Still, once they fix the netcode on this game it will be as close to the perfect CoD experience as you can get nowadays. I got further into the video, and I must say. The hit reg absolutely needs work ASAP. I've seen videos of people quite literally getting hitmarkers on an entire clip and then the enemy shows up as having full health still. Getting shot around corners is also a very prevalent issue.
Played it during the beta, wasn't feeling it. Played a few matches today and honestly, still not feeling it. It pretty much is just 360 era CoD but worse in just about every way.

Regarding the Ghost Recon franchise. The first GR game I played was basically unknown and unregconized by the community, it was GR Phantoms. It was also a free-to-play team based shooter, but in 3rd person.
The abilities you see in this game (namely 5 of them) given to multiple factions were in fact the GR Phantoms abilities. They also reused 1 map from the old game, Attica Heights. And let me tell you, with GRP being a good chunk of my childhood before it got shutdown, I almost shat my pants when I got to see the name, the old logo, the abilities and the map. It was unspeakably nostalgic for me. I hope they choose more maps from GRP, as the maps were fantastic, I loved every single one of them.
forgot about this game but played the hell out out of it. absolutely loved the progression in it and the way the game played like splinter cell more than anything

Ubisoft just allowed Mark Rubin to do his thing and gave him full range to do whatever he wants with xdefiant. I mean they literally gave him all access to ALL of Ubisoft’s IPs. It isn’t references to old Ubisoft maps or games, they are literally USING them because they are allowed to. Ubisoft allowed it and I’m here for it.

One thing I absolutely love that I don’t see anyone mentioning, retaining lobbies. I love not being forced into another lobby once the match ends. Just something I’ve missed forever.
The guy in charge of production of XDefiant is Mark Rubin. The same Mark Rubin who was the executive director for Call of Duty from the original Modern Warfare all the way to Ghosts.
exactly how i feel about this game. spent like 6hrs non stop on xdefiant. Last time at such length and had so much fun while doing it was black ops 1 :D

Yeah this is so fun to do especially when you can easily switch from one faction to another after every death. It just adds more variety of gameplay and creates that element of surprise.

Im only playing dom and I’ve lost multiple games where the whole enemy team went negative because no one on my team cared about the objective. Myself included.

A game called ‘Ironsight’ could’ve been the first Xdefiant, but they’re not trying to port the game to console for whatever reason. It has a bo2 type of feel with actual killstreaks but they only want to have the game in pc when expanding it to console could easily blow up and give cod some great competition

Somebody screwed up, lied, or a combination of both. Nobody is supposed to release games like this anymore. Where's the missing promised content? Where's the predatory P2W? Where's the broken net code? Where are the Division-esque terrain bugs and missing cover? Where are the community managers there to lie and string the players along? I'm so confused.

I mean, it's definitely not perfect they gave a lot to smooth out, but if they stay on point with content and updates, this game has so much potential. We will just see what ubisoft does with it in the future.

In a day and age where for some reason it’s SO DIFFICULT for these companies to understand what their players want, and what is fun, and what is genuinely just a good idea. This game is so awesome. I really hope in a month or two this game is still poppin. This is the kind of game needs to be done more.

I think that Ubisoft will continue to back this game. In terms of the shooter genre their other major hit so far is R6 which is 9 years old and still going strong. R6 recently had another resurgence in 2024 and hit its highest peak player count in its lifecycle. And mind you R6 has had a ton of issues in the last 9 years but Ubisoft has not pulled the plug on it. At 1 or 2 points R6 literally almost died but kept getting revived. Taking that as reference i do hope that we wont have to worry about Xdefiant.

This video so perfectly describes my feelings about it all. Between map voting, no hidden algorithmic matchmaking, movement/gunplay focus, every map having 3 lanes, relatively balanced weapons, endorsement and reaction systems, and so much more... this is everything competitive players in COD have been begging for over what feels like the past 10 years, and what activision has blatantly ignored OR implemented the exact opposites of in deliberate attempts to algorithmically milk another $130 out of their increasingly miserable player base.
I stopped playing COD the moment I read Mark Rubin's promises about this game in early development - and to see those promises fulfilled is so refreshing in not just the FPS community, but the gaming community as a whole.
Now imagine how much better it is for me loving Ubisoft as my favorite developer. Having my favorite worlds brought back and mixed together is so awesome. Can't wait for an AC faction in game. Course, I don't do much multi-player gaming since I don't have instant-snap perfect aim from across the map, but it's fun while waiting for AC Shadows!
PREACH!!! My goodness you were speaking to my soul. I was such a 2000s/2010s Ubisoft gamer and FPS player and this harkens back to that. Black Ops has been the only FPS I've stuck with due to the old-school feel and here we finally are.

Im having a blast in this game. Im hoping to god this game stays for a long time, and more people play. Ive only been playing FPS shooters since cod 2019 but this is the best FPS shooter since then.
The main point is accessibility and visibility. They absolutely need to put this thing on steam.

game is fun but also has major problems like;
,hitreg where you die behind solid cover, enemys surving with 2 hp by the 5 bodyshot when each bodyshot does 22 dmg and headshots 33 but you getting insta melted,
most weapon attachments are useless like fire rate ,dmg ,range and the recoil ones, fire rate because it doesnt affect the ttk and has massive downsides the dmg one because it boost the bodyshot dmg only by 1 and headshot dmg by 2 points the recoil ones because the gun base recoil is really good even with the movement attachments there for they arent needed range arent needed atleast for ARs and smgs because you fight mostly in close range and midrange with these and they only buff midrange and closerange and not longrange,
and the abilities; healer ult abit too strong still in the first beta it was even stronger the passive one is a tiny bit too slow,
shield dude has 20hp more than rest which messes up the ttk the barrier barricade can be outplayed by running through it because no punishment for going through it the ult zone shield has the same weakness and is easy too focus fire because both of them have not very high durability,
the fire dudes fire ammo passive feels inconsistent maybe because off the hit reg problem and his ult he dies too fast in it too be really useful,
the hacker one is 90 percent like copy from 2 specalists in bo4 and has the same problems as these because his crowd control ability's are too oppressive and annoying and doenst belong in a arcade type and competitive shooter and at last the spy faction is op as fuck because their are literal wallhackers with invisibility are more like a too much buffed version of the orbital satellite drone in the blackops games
and the only weapons that are a problem are dmrs and shotguns because they support camping and are too easy to use for their ttk
i understand that the attachments have to have downsides but some off them too potent in their downsides too be useful balancing is not nerving something too much that it becomes useless or doesn't having an affect at all so it only is a placeholder
rather making each as example the attachments similar potent so they support and out weight each other.
some of the effects of attachments are listed in the detail listing of the weapons like recoil reset and most off them aren't explained in detail what affect they have in what situation on the weapons.
The game is good!! I hope by season one they add combat tracking for gun kills per gun, more customization camo for guns, and the net code is still not registering hits! And add a gun range to adjust settings. Other than that the game is good
Y'all aren't gonna agree with me. But I think Ubisoft's monetization is generally pretty fair.
Ubisoft games are generally packed with a ridiculous amount of optional content to the point where any normal person would get bored before they get through half of it.
And as an adult, when I get bored of playing a game, I stop and do something else.
That DOESN'T mean that the game was boring or bad up until that point, I've just had my fill of whatever that game was offering.
An Ubisoft game has never left me wanting *more* so I've never personally felt the need to spend extra money for more content.
But for anyone who absolutely loves the Ubisoft formula, the content is definitely there and if they want to offer a $130 version of the game for people that want Even more content, go for it.
I generally fall pretty in favor of making a larger profit, but the problem people are having with the monetization of games recently is a mismatch between content and cost, as well as detecting shady practices in the way they're marketing/selling stuff.
I think Blame Truth pointed this out well in regards to Shadows, but in regards to the higher end "bundles" he said "You're not paying to play the game EARLY, you're paying extra to play the game ON RELEASE." A lot of gamers, including myself, see through that sort of bullshit, even if only subconsciously, and it makes a purchase feel worse than it otherwise would. One particular thing for me is cosmetics; I don't mind cosmetics for purchase, but it pisses me off when these companies try and 'sweeten the deal' of an extra 40 dollars on a game for some exclusive texture that is completely arbitrary to justify said expense. The thing that grinds my gears the most is charging extra money without actual CONTENT, and no cosmetics do NOT count as 'content' to me.
For me Ubisoft itself earned my ire with their decision to delete game libraries if you don't log in. Even if they backtracked on that by now, my favor is lost for that one.
I had a great time with this game. I played an escort game mode and the enemy team had it at 99.5% there and with 2 minutes left on the clock my team held them off from reaching the goal and we won.
It kinda feels like we're describing PalWorld again lol
There needs to be a petition to replace the Ubisoft CEO with someone like Mark Rubin or anyone who understands the process of making games. If Ubisoft took this approach with all its games, understood the value of their IPs they would be way more profitable
The winter Division map (think it was called Dumbo or something) has to be my favorite map in the game. It genuinely feels like a Division 1 location. So I hope they continue these callback maps like this.
I'd love to see some maps inspired by AC or Ghost Recon Wildlands.

I don't remember PS3 era cod being a hero shooter.
Don't forget the games crossplay and requires you to make a ubi account to play with players of other platforms, so even if it's on steam you'll probably need one.
Another thing i love about xdefient is no call in killstreaks. Its refreshing not being killed by a seeker drone or ims system or airstrike.
I hope the main ranked mode is Escort when it officially launches
Because of all the cheaters in COD and not to mention all the gross characters they’ve added straying so far away from what COD is I’ve pretty much stuck with coop pve games but when I tried this I was hooked. It has honestly been almost 5 years since I’ve played a competitive PVP game like this and I’m always thinking about jumping in to grind one more match. The fact it’s also free is even better. I hope it stays what it is now. Now kill streaks, no extra attachable perks, just pure kill based gun fights
Ubisoft has a good overall track record, in my opinion they just made a few really bad decisions recently. They have so many great games. Only really bad one is skull and bones in my opinion.
This game to me is the ultimate epitome of the phrase "Worst person you know just made a fantastic point"

Bo3 was genuinly good imo. But they fumbled that ball soon after launch with the lootbox age. Instead of more content we got gambling.

Call of Duty bros are infuriating. Mindlessly buying DLC packs for AAA prices, that are just recycled geometry on top of a decades old game engine. I refuse to play any CoD title but I've dropped 69Euros on XDefiant and will drop another 69Euros next month. To show my appreciation.

I thought everyone was tired of specialists and hero type pvp games. i spent all of last night dealing with shitters in the corner invisible, the damn wallhack spam, the god awful main menu UI, the slowish weapon progression designed to sell boosters, the boosters themselves(cant activate them midgame?) the fucking battlepass being shoved into my face after every match and the weird thing where im behind a wall, im at 15 ping and i still die. but other than that it was a barrel of fun i ended up playing for 5 hours straight without noticing, oh wait the attachment system, why does adding a lower zoom scope(therefore lighter) trash my ads speed on snipers? -25% ads speed for going down to an 8x instead of 12x? why is the variable zoom the scope that doesnt have the ads penalty.
I loved the Ghost Recon games on Xbox 360. We're missing those third person tactile shooter games currently.
It took them this long for this game to come out because it was a completely different game compared to now and they developed the game with direct feedback from the community, fixing the issues and incorporating the suggestions. The only reason you know that it took them this long is because they were transparent and communicative about it. No point in being mad about it not coming sooner, it's here now, so let's just enjoy it.

Oh shotguns must definitely be fixed. Right now they are broken and that's why it feels like they won't do anything beyond point-blank. But more than that, the netcode issues the game has right now has any shotgun but the double barrel being useless. Still, once they fix the netcode on this game it will be as close to the perfect CoD experience as you can get nowadays.
I got further into the video, and I must say. The hit reg absolutely needs work ASAP. I've seen videos of people quite literally getting hitmarkers on an entire clip and then the enemy shows up as having full health still. Getting shot around corners is also a very prevalent issue.
Played it during the beta, wasn't feeling it. Played a few matches today and honestly, still not feeling it. It pretty much is just 360 era CoD but worse in just about every way.

The biggest win is having input based matchmaking so I don't have to deal will controller kids.

xdefiants biggest balance issue is the snipers. in a game with such a slow time to kill the one shots feel really out of place
