      I think they cycle their videos about. They started doing it (again, possibly) while I was still making my way through their entire youtube video back catalog (edit: a year ago) and it completely cramped my style. I had to go back and figure out which dozen or so videos I hadn't seen that were moved from the end of the line to the front, and I'm sure there may even be one or two I'll never find that I've never seen - except this just proved it, because if this is truly from 2017, I don't remember seeing this one! 47:20 That is simply false. There are several episodes, mainly TOS-episodes, where it is mentioned that even with subspace communications, messages can take weeks to reach Starfleet from the Enterprise's current position. Well your right but they don't show it in practice is what NDT was saying... It's one of those things that shows and movies can't be real or it would be very boring lol. We use our imagination that time has passed between communication.
      Voyager was one that spoke about it the most, you know being stuck out in the Delta quadrant desperately trying to communicate with home.

    • @gyozakeynsianism
      @gyozakeynsianism 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      On average? America was probably never all that much smarter than other developed countries. I do think America had higher literacy in the late 18th century (early Republic) than other countries, though (people read the Bible a lot more than in other countries).
      But also remember: the second half of the 20th century was absolutely dominated by American science. Look at all the Nobel laureates. And it's not just science - the social sciences too. An enviable record. We (all nations) should do more of that!

      @Harry Moorehouse What's good about Trump being acquitted? You've got half a senate full of brown-nosed idiots who don't know what laws are, and a POTUS who thinks that laws don't apply to him. Everything Trump and Guiliani claimed about the Bidens can be debunked easily with a Google search, and even if they DID have a legitimate reason to want to investigate the Bidens, there are LEGAL ways to do so that don't involve soliciting a foreign power to interfere with a political candidate!
      The "Space Force" that everybody's getting all hyped for is nothing more than taking an already extant branch of the Air Force, and making it it's own branch of the armed forces. You're not going to be having dogfights in starfighters. It's all much ado about nothing.

    • @BlackEpyon
      @BlackEpyon 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Harry Moorehouse Who are we fighting in space that justifies making the Air Force Space Command into it's own branch? It doesn't take a defeatist to see that this is nothing more than a boondoggle to grab attention while not getting anything new done.
      If you want to make NASA great again, you need to stop making them change direction every time a new monkey takes the oval office. Bush wanted NASA to return to the moon. Then Obama said, "we've been to the moon, lets go to Mars!" Then Trump said, "Lets go back to the moon!" But not to be outdone, "But first, lets make a space station around the moon that serves a completely redundant function!"

    Is it possible to set up multiple radio stations to cut down on the radio frequency time it takes to receive a signal.

    • @christhorney
      @christhorney 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      nothing can go faster than the speed of light, its the physical limit of how fast a signal can travel, radio signals are a type of light, just not visible, light is the fastest known thing that exist so their is no way physically possible to get a signal to travel the distance no matter how powerful the signal is or how many times you relay it, infact the more times you relay it will induce even more latency due to having to capture, process the signal and relay it, so your better off having your original signal be strong enough to travel the distance without interruption for the fastest possible communication. even electricity can only travel at the speed of light, but usually slower in most materials, so radio is faster than a physical connection with a cable. The fastest cables on the market use fiber optics instead of electricity because the light can travel through the glass fiber faster and with less power than the same signal being sent through a copper cable .. but everything has limits

    So if you had a entry proof space suit, and you were in space directly behind earths trajectory. What is the farthest distance you could jump (limited by you own ability to jump towards earth) from a structure to spacedive towards earth only being pulled by gravity and jump force you exerted, without being left behind by earths speed? How long would the fall/entry be until you landed? Both in space and earths atmosphere, Assuming you survive the friction?

    I was glad to here her discuss the money we spend going into the economy. I worked on Orion Subcontracts and cannot begin to explain how good it was to see our hard earned tax dollars being spent intelligently at US manufacturers who were all in on the mission.

    • @arcanewyrm6295
      @arcanewyrm6295 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope. Because orbital periods. There's a point in the Earth-Mars alignment cycle where "halfway between Earth and Mars" ends up being RIGHT NEXT TO THE SUN. Might not be the best place for a rest area for space tourists.

    I've been thinking for so long how the space station isn't exactly practically and ergonomically designed, it's like a tree branch. For being such a epicenter of great minds that is NASA it surely is a very inconvenient design. And why haven't we replaced it yet with a more modern and well thought out space station with instead of arms with solar panels pointing everywhere there's platforms and surface areas with solar panels like on the ground or on roofs? Instead of astronauts moving through long pipes the structure is more of a multiple floor/store building etc. Would also make it less rigid like when moving it it too fast wouldn't look like a branch rustling in the vind. With a more solid design it can be moved with less caution and consideration for it's fragility = faster. Make it more comfortable for the astronauts working there, better layouts, everything looking more clean, polished, new hardware and software, more efficient instrument to read and use, better markings and navigation for what is where... I'm talking a next generation station for the next 50 years. That thing is old, in constant need of repairs and replacements. It's time to make it a better representation and reflection of todays ambitions, visions, standards and technological capabilities.
    And btw wouldn't it be faster for communication and signal commands like from a remote controller by having antennas or such a long the way to boost transmission speeds?

      Joe was talking nonsense. Why is it that everyone seems to completely forget those parts of his podcasts?
      I mean, it happens OFTEN to say the least.
      Also, Joe was behaving as a bully. Bullies are not well liked by many. And Neil has made it clear how he feels about bullies.
      You have a bully talking pure nonsense while in a position of influence over others. Interruption was absolutely mandatory.
      As far as this video, everyone is correct. The interruptions of her were far too excessive.
      But remember, this is a science+comedy show. A mixing of science with comedy. As a result, immaturity may occur. Most interruptions were attempts to be humorous. The ones which were not were unfair I admit.
      Also, Joe and I'm sorry to cause butthurt, talks a lot of nonsense at times. He is actually falsely convinced that LSD and other similar hallucinogens are harmless.
      That requires a refusal to investigate at bare minimum.
      Combine full of shit with bully like behavior and what you are left with is that very podcast.

    i never understood why they did not regulate near earth orbit.
    Why have thousands of tiny satellites that fly on their own and risk crashing into each other or other debries why not have large modular frames where companies may dock their components to?
    that would reduce the amount of loose items and make it easier to repair/remove broken/obselete modules.
