Just made up a 4th Indian Division Sikhs in North Africa set for a youngster, 1:72 scale. 25pdrs are easy to source if he wants more so I made some 4.5 inch howitzers (HaT Howitzers with tyred wheels from the HaT IG18 glued to cocktail stick and superglued under the carriage). For the crews I used assorted figures, disarmed infantry and the like, with turbans either made up by trimming off the brim of the helmet and building up the turban with Uhu or turbans cut from the top of a 'bedouin' set replacing the helmets (a couple of blokes have the upper body of the 'bedouins' glued to 8th army lower torso to produce 'stripped to the waist' crews). Finding details of the unit marking for the vehicles is hard, the Indian pattern wheeled carriers had the divisional badge above the arm of service marking on the right of the front hull but I haven't found pictures showing the placement of markings on their light tanks (reece units) or the detachment of Sherman's of the 1st (later 31st) armoured division. I'll keep an eye on your progress and crib any suggestions you have (I make up the transfers myself as there aren't really any wargame friendly Indian transfer sets in 1:72).
Progress is slow and inconsistent, but I am getting there. I myself need to do some more research. I have plans to give the force a Churchill Tank soon
