Couple of things … You are truly amazing for even attempting this on your own, i would be terrified. And For me a rider who is 41 and struggling with my confidence you are a real inspiration. I’m still on sodding L plates as i went and did my DAS and got to test day and totally fell apart, i was ill, exhausted anxious and totally lost all faith in any ability i have and had an utterly embarrassing emotional breakdown and didnt even make it to the test centre and much like you said no one is forcing me to ride I want to do it cos i enjoy it and its fun. I love to watch ladies like yourself not on an anonymous CC bike as i myself prefer the lower lighter CC bikes, just doing it their way and being honest about the journey. The more i watch the more confidence it gives me that i will get there if i do it my way at my pace. I’d love to do the Scotland tour as ive not been back since i moved away from Inverness back in 08 but i wont be doing it alone as im a complete directionless muppet and need constant adult supervision 😂. So remember us ladies just like you are out there feeling the same as you at times and we are taking inspiration from you, your doing an awesome thing and thank you for taking us along. ❤

Hi Helz, what you are describing is EXACTLY what I went through during my experience getting qualified. I bailed on my first Part 1 on the day as I just didn't feel ready. I then waited and re-booked, and failed first time on being 1km an hour too slow through the speed trap. The knock on confidence was real, winter then came, and little riding was done. Do NOT berate yourself for being on L plates, they are not a mark of shame, they are proof you haven't given up. You will get there, and you'll get there when you're ready and safe. Don't compare yourself to anyone elses journey, this is YOURS.
I promise if you want this enough, it will happen. Don't let the fear take away your enjoyment of the ride, and remember every day and every ride is a learning day. 😊 Let me know how you get on. 😊

Howdy from across the ocean, LoL. Sorry I don't mean to sound silly. I liked your comment,but......when you said you were 41 and struggling with confidence, which I understand, may I say, that the courage and the will to get out and learn to ride and face whats ahead of you wins you a Gold Star in my books. When the tears roll down your cheeks let them roll, then wipe"n away and tell your bike " will get through this". Wish you the best ride each day.

My heart went out to you! But having learned that there’s nothing like a good meal and a sleep to put a different slant on things, it brought a smile to my face to see your day four begin with renewed hope. Good on you for showing the struggles - ultimately they’re what make a journey worthwhile. Battling crosswinds on an overladen single remain with me for a long time - it’s what sorts out the real bikers! Well done you - I look forward to your next video ✌️

You did so much more than that. Your riding improved, you rode in wind also. On lite bikes wind pushes you more. But ride with a loosed grip on the bars. Let Rodger dance a little. He is going to stay up. But the wind will always tire you out. Even the most seasoned riders. I am Chuck, I live in Ohio in the states near Cleveland. I am a widower, 2.5 yrs. I have ridden since I was seven. I just turned 70 and still ride. I use it as my main transport, have a car. But it’s not my cup of tea. I laughed to myself you talk about Harleys in ur video. I have owned this one 22 yrs. Do my own work, and know new is not always better.I have really enjoyed your honesty and integrity about life. Have a bodacious day lady. Chuck

At last a very honest insight into what really happens on solo motorbike trips.. To many of these videos get all the real issues edited out and the trip looks like its gone perfect!.. I love you're honesty it's very refreshing to see.. I've also had simular issues on solo rides.. Its part of it I suppose.. I've got a couple more planned I'm just Trying to decide do I tent camp or b&b... As I get older I think I'm preferring a bit more comfort... Plus less weight on bike.. Hope to see more of you're travels and adventures keep well

Like a windswept road full of curves and blind turns life can be difficult at times. We visualise the perfect ride and on occasion find that perfect road which lifts our spirit to a level where all our problems just melt away. No need to worry about the past or the future, after all you have found an honourable vehicle to transcend all of this, and anything at all that life can throw at you. Through wind, rain and the mist bound hills your mount will bring you onto that sun lit road, your destination complete, your route to happiness. Ride safe my dear.

I've just completed a 2400 mile trip around Scotland's best roads/passes and sights.
I had the same doubts as you did and I've been riding for 31 years now, I was also solo after 2 failed relationships in 8 months and needed to get my head together as i'd been having suicidal thoughts and had recently been prescribed anti-depressants..
I also dropped my helmet and scratched the visor, I also scratched it on a nail on a gate.
As for needing the iron, you are a beautiful lady with eyes I could lose myself in.
I know this is late to the party, but I hope you succeeded in your quest (I'll watch the other episodes later, I have to sleep now)
Thank you for a wonderful vid.

Lovely video! Well done for challenging yourself. I did exactly the same thing when I was a few months into my riding licence - packed up a tend and went on an adventure, during the journey I was almost involved in an accident due to a careless driver, scared the life out of me. Questioned my life choices when I got to the campsite too!
Well done though for making it, you'll be able to look back at this and say "I did it!" in years to come. I'm also from round your way, so if you ever need a biking buddy, give me a shout! :)

This month I went out alone for the first time with a tent on my meteor 350 :-). I think we have never learned to do anything really for ourselves, we have to learn this and above all so do it. so you are doing absolutely fine, keep it up, love your vlogs.

With the very greatest respect for you.i have done the whole NC500 Inverness east coast round west coast and return back at Inverness 516 miles, and its planning you route and stops .i did 85 miles a day that is a easy ride stop every 30 miles or so easily doing 85 in a day over 6 days always only 30 ish miles in the seat then stopping .you have to plan a itinerary that works for YOU. treat this as a learning curve, dont be put off ,i salute your effort, but think of maximum a hour ride at a time or less its a cruise to enjoy thats the point of it . More thought next time into the route plan and good luck fellow biker ❤

Just so well done! If you are touring alone you will ALWAYS get to a point where you doubt what you are doing and it all seems a nit too much. I did an 800 mile tour of the West, North and then East coast of Scotland in May of 2022 and I had more than one day like that. It happens. But you have to find solace where you can and understand that you are doing things that may be outside of your comfort zone. I am astonished that you took on this challenge, but am full of admiration for your spirit. I live just North of Dundee and the East Coast route up to Stonehaven is one of my favorite journeys. It is far too often overlooked. Well done again!

Dude(ette) - what a great find to catch your journey. I have ridden for decades and still experience similar feelings as the days go by,on longish rides. First day is exhilarating. Second fun. Third day you ask “why am I setting up a tent when there’s a nice hotel up the road…”. Then, you hit your stride and it all gets better until you realize you’re on the way home and already thinking about the next ride. Breaks in the middle really help. I just did 2k miles in 6 days and went thru the exact same ups and downs you described. Felt good to persevere. There really is nothing cooler IMHO than being on a motorcycle! Ride soon, ride often, ride safely. And keep posting!

Wow, this is so much better than television. I was enthralled by your monologue towards the end. A couple of nights in a bed will put a shine back on things. But fair-does to you, you've covered a lot of miles. I think if youve never rode a bike, you don't realise how exhausting it is, especially with a bit of rain thrown in. Greatly looking forward to the next episode.

Wonderful video, Winnats Pass really is a joy isn't it and by the way I miss the turning every time I go there 😁Take heart that even us seasoned bike tourers have our moments when we ask ourselves what the hell we're doing but the epic and joyful experiences always massively outweigh the negatives. We were in Argyll and Bute back in July and the unremitting rain and damp was making us question what the hell we were doing at times but as soon as it stopped we were back in our happy places. Looking forward to watching day 4 👍

Riding is a state of mind I find anyway - sometimes a necessity but always a state of mind - if your in a good place, there is no better place to be- if your in a bad place , pull over, it makes you careless and it’s probably due to being knackered !
I drove from Essex to loch lomond in one hit . Had a couple of close calls because it was to much -
It is one of the best life choices you can make , I’ve explored more than I can imagine on two wheels, more than you ever would in a car, - respect!

Respect 6 months experience. And you’ve done more than some who have been riding all there lives. Well done you. I’m well over due to take off on a bike. I want to do Hannibal pass over the Switzerland Alps in to Italy. I’ve done the roads. Now I’d like to do it over the goat tracks and paths.
stay in the abandoned monastery for the night on top of the Alps. Probably do the trip on a 1970s trail bike. But I’ll do a Stoctland trip early next summer too.
You get cheers and applause from me.
Your a inspiration. Love the little meteor my wife wants one. We’ve just sold her monster. She wants a bike she can put her feet on the ground and the meteor seems to tick all the right boxes. Take care, ride sale. Give yourself a Pat on the back, you deserve it.

What an excellent video. Only just found your channel and have subscribed. Thank you for the excellent job you do, my sister in law is a paramedic, my wife a nurse and I ride blood bikes, all doing our bit to help others. Pushing ourselves into challenges and slightly out of our comfort zone develops us and stretches us, thank you and well done for documenting it. Reflection personal growth and satisfaction come afterwards and are great rewards as well as benchmarks for our unknown abilities. Keep them coming ride safe and keep adventuring. .... By the way the Enfields are great adventure generating bikes. I took my Himalayan from Lands end to John O'Grotes last year, Ive been riding for over forty years now and have a lovely BMW1250RT that sits in the garage too often when the Enfield get the call !

I was supposed to go to Scotland this year, but the guys I was supposed to be riding with pulled out, so didn't go. I didn't have the confidence going that far solo, so major kudos to you for doing it on your own and you're allowed a confidence wobble under the circumstances. Only words of advice are well done , you were tired and exhausted

She’s ridden to the south of Spain and to every coast of the uk, it takes time to build up confidence , but every time you swing your leg over your lovely bike, it’s another adventure for you 😁👌
We’ve just come back for a 12day tour of the highlands & west coast islands
And it’s memories that will stay with us forever

Loving your trip. Your doing great! 👍 Your mention of the emergency services at Lockerbie and the time it would have taken reminded me of one of my tours in America. I was travelling across Idaho when a VW camper that was in front of me suddenly turned off the road and careered in to the scrub and turned over several times. There was generally always a drop off the sides of these highways. Fortunately there were cars about and we all stopped to try and help. I stayed for awhile but others were on the ball so I left, I still had a long way to go. I must have travelled something like an hour, without going through the merest village, when a police car came speeding on the other side of the road, I assume heading for the accident. Still had a long way to go. If you had an accident there the emergency services were a long way away.

Thank you for sharing the memorial at Lockerbie, seems like yesterday and that’s an event we will never forget. I was based at RAF Mildenhall when that happened. Last time I was in Scotland in 2018, I wanted to go out there from Edinburgh but couldn’t quite make it.
No need to feel overwhelmed on these kinds of trips. Just take it one mile at a time. You did great. It’s all the obstacles we face that build resiliency, fortitude and character. For a six-month rider, hats off to you. Lots of folks wouldn’t even dream of tackling a trip like that.

You’re doing fine… you’re certainly putting in some ‘testing riding’ in terms of distance and the roads your on but you’re doing absolutely fine! You’ve overcome challenges with your helmet and visor and you sorted it! Totally understand how you’re having the odd ‘emotional wobble’ … it’s certainly challenging what you’re accomplishing, especially taking your experience into account. I have watched your videos of your tour of scotland. I think it is truly amazing what you did on only 6 months experience and a 350 single bike. I have been riding for 30 years, and I think I would be daunted by the thought of doing as you did on a 350 single. By the way, I am ex Amb service also, so I wonder how you fit filming in with shift work. Look forward to trying out the bike rallying scene, I still go to bike rallies now, and I am in my fifties. Nothing better than camping in a field, talking bikes and drinking beer and listening to good bands!! Enjoy and welcome to a life on two wheels!!

    • @restdayrider

Thank you Nigel, I think maybe my naivety at what I was undertaking was the reason I managed it. But to be fair, the 350 single was amazing, and I'd do it all again. 😊 Fitting riding in around work is a challenge, especially as getting leave is like hens teeth.
