November 2024 I am adding this applied I-cord edge to a 72" scarf that I designed. It's based on classic Breton stripes, and I'm using four colors in different combinations. I'm using garter stitching and the edges are a little wonky, so the I-cord has taken care of that. I'm using Stephen's boost randomly to keep the I-cord edge stretchy. This video well deserves its thousands of views. Thank you, Stephen.
I add yarn overs between the icord stitches as I knit and drop them as I slip the three stitches. This adds a bit more stretch and looks very consistent. It’s fun to see so there are so many methods to achieve the same results.
I do that!!!! Love it!!! I do it about every 4th row... Just learned an i-cord cast on where you do a yarnover....game changer & easier to count!!! Slip 3, yarnover, knit 3, repeat as recommended...
YES YES... Love I-cord everywhere I add it to most every shawl I do....... I also add a row when having to turn corners... makes the corners block beautifully I also use a 2x larger needle when doing an add-on I-cord and sometimes 3 extra rows- spaced when turning corners...
Liked, subscribed, saved, and bookmarked. So glad I found this because my first I-cord was taking all the fun out of my first shawl. Your tutorials are THE BEST - thank you!
Your such a great teacher Mr. West & I love your enthusiasm it’s so genuine and pair all that with your bubbly personality. It’s no wonder why your called Mr. West , I love you ! I can’t wait to order one or two of your books and use the stretchier I-Cord cast on. I’m going to try your bone yard shawl and just go completely organic & wild with random colors. Thanks for loving what you do!
I used to knit icord pretty tight and hated I cord. I finally figured out to not snug up my stitches at all and it was much better. But your giving a little EXTRA to each stitch seems even better. I'll try that next time. Thanks!
I bought your Painting Chevrons pattern for two reasons. I've, I love chevrons. Two, after watching another i-cord video you did I became fascinated with i-cord edges. Painting Chevrons gives me both! I'm also doing and applied i-cord border in a coordinating color on a baby blanket that I'm working on. Thank you for the inspiration!
You are a master. Your outside the box thinking is so beautiful. I wish I had even a little bit of your abilities to design. By the way, I'm one of your fellow guy knitters. I just bought your classic designs pdf book. Looking forward to trying side of them, even though we don't get to wear them much in Phoenix, AZ, where it's over 100° a lot, lol. Thanks for being you👍😃
THANK YOU!!! LoL other videos i saw didn’t show how to form the stitches from the i-cord method-thing lol as you can probably tell i’ve never done an i-cord tab cast on method for knitting a shawl.
That’s what I’ve always done and not just for i-cord edges. I’ve always needed to do this on the top of crescent shawls, and some other shapes as well, any time that I’m not satisfied with the tension of the edge.
@@StephenWest one of my favorite things about you is your commitment to “practicality”. The “don’t frog just to find a one stitch mistake”, “don’t panic”, and tips like this. Thanks!
Starting from a point and increasing on the diagonal, is there a way to have icord edges each side? Do you have a video that already shows that technique?

Love the “spandex” line. Am in the middle of Ddotted Rays and so loving the knit. Thank you for the video and for learning something new.
Of course this comes out a week after I finish my dotted rays! 😂 Guess I have to cast on another!

Stephen that was very helpful. I am more a loose knitter but still I would like more stretch to the i-icord edge.
I do need to knit a dotted rays. Thanks for the tips too.
Wow that’s a game changer🤯😁

Hi! Curious if i did an i cord boost all the way down a scarf would it make a kind of ruffle along the edge?
Thanks Esteban Del Oeste. Kiss
Thanks for watching Winelvi!!
Stephen do you have any advice for fixing an icord edge when you've had to rip back?
This is super cool I needed that before I did my temperance shawl. Will this also work with a to stitch I cord edge?
Thank you
I assume if i wanted to add i cord edge to something that doesnt have it in the pattern, I would need to cast on 3 extra stitches on each side.
Thku
Thanks! Good tip!!
Glad it was helpful!
thanks for the tips! i've noticed that i'm a tight knitter with i-cords and it made me irritated :p ;)
