I did this exact thing recently when I added a double i-cord edge/border on a baby blanket! Had I thought about it when I started it I would have a neater looking join.
The left over yarn I have from my honeycomb blanket will go for the Triangular Shawl now!

Would you advise doing pick up 2 make one on the side seams as a good practice to maintain stretch?
