They changed her character, she's jaded and angry and lashing out and she has a pretty great reason to, her family and village was butchered and her country just pushes more peace. Her entire lore has been completely changed. Irelia's old lore was actually pretty dull, she didn't even defeat the Noxian army she was fighting when she found her powers, simply defended until her brother arrived to clean them up. Right now it's fairly easy to infer a lot of the lore and I think she's a much stronger character now. Xin also kept the peace and order in Demacia when, at one point, J4 left with an elite squadron of soldiers and was gone for months hunting monsters as training because he lost a 1v1 to Sion. J4 wasn't crowned yet at that time, but his dad was already dead. The "training" was to prepare himself for being King as he took the crown as soon as he came back from that journey. This journey is also where J4 found a young Shyvanna and took her back to Demacia (the very first Dragonslayer Skin was made for J4 as a part of his 2 skin set on his release which was a thing that Riot did at that time). When J4 came back, Xin commented that J4 had changed, and his actual childhood best friend Garen, also said the same. So for a brief moment, Xin was acting leader for the entire Demacia. Much like sona he was born in ionia but displaced during the war
And after being a prisoner of war and forced to fight in noxian arenas for about a decade he was saved by jarvan ( dont remember which one) and then pledged a life dept to the demacian royal blood line instead of going back to ionia.
Now hes Jarvin ix personal bodyguard and bff.

Ziggs blew up the Noxian walls that allowed the Demacians into the walls. Xin also trained Jarvan IV. But isn't exactly fond of him as a king, however, he swore to serve the crown and the son of his saviour. So he'll keep doing it.
As for the Ziggs part. He wasn't allowed into the Piltover Academy. So to prove himself to the Academy leaders and finally be allowed entry to their school. He volunteered to help with the Demacian Assault on the Noxian Fighting Pits, because this was supposedly where they threw their POWs to fight each other as entertainment so many Demacian Soldiers were inside. Suffice to say, Ziggs was allowed into the Academy after literally tearing a hole through the thick ass reinforced steel walls on the Fighting Pits that was said to be "impenetrable".
Edit: He's not a personal bodyguard and BFF to J4. He's more of a caretaker. A senechal is more like a political head butler or something, tasked with keeping order and justice. He serves J4 out of respect and gratitude towards his father. Xin also kept the peace and order in Demacia when, at one point, J4 left with an elite squadron of soldiers and was gone for months hunting monsters as training because he lost a 1v1 to Sion. J4 wasn't crowned yet at that time, but his dad was already dead. The "training" was to prepare himself for being King as he took the crown as soon as he came back from that journey. This journey is also where J4 found a young Shyvanna and took her back to Demacia (the very first Dragonslayer Skin was made for J4 as a part of his 2 skin set on his release which was a thing that Riot did at that time). When J4 came back, Xin commented that J4 had changed, and his actual childhood best friend Garen, also said the same.
So for a brief moment, Xin was acting leader for the entire Demacia. That's how much political power was given to Xin by Jarvan III. So Xin's art and lore don't actually line up well, as Xin is supposed to be old, he was early 30s when he got rescured and J4 was still a teenager at that time.

Till now, i haven't seen anyone showing hate or disgust towards her, not even Yasuo and Kled almost liked her, almost
true, though with yasuo he is accusing her of murdering an Ionian elder (which are no evidence of her actually being within the said region where the ionian elder was residing); kled more likely see riven as a upstanding noxian, just doesnt like how the new generation of noxian are going for more newer or more over the top form of fighting style(kled definition: "quit all that hip hopping around"); but what i mean in my statement bout irelia towards riven, is cause irelia seem to have developed a huge hatred towards noxian(though cant really blame her anger there with the butchering, the chemical warfare, and destruction of their land in general), but when she confronts riven she shows no hatred towards her even though she knows she is a noxian that was part of the invasion(though riven really was like 1% part of the invasion; being deceived by her superiors and ordered that you were going to establish a occupational outpost on a small part of ionia doesnt make a loyal follower stay loyal to the cause for long).
I was shocked even more so when she offered her a possibility to redeem herself by helping the ionian people by getting back at the warmongers who caused the destruction on their homeland.

Ionians have been in constant war and turmoil. They've always been a pacifist nation. After the Noxians invaded some wanted revenge while others refused to fight as tradition.
As you can see Irelia is one of those who decided to fight back. Karma chooses to fight, but only to protect rather than to attack. So Irelia is an ally to Ionia but believes some of her fellow Ionians have bullshit beliefs.
