It's very nice. But I'm American can you explain why houses in Ireland and England have their living rooms closed off, we are used to open spaces and usually blending with the kitchen.
I don't know how my question became political about the environment. However, America is very vast with all climates. The deep south and Florida do not experience extreme cold, they deal with heat and humidity and closed rooms would create mold. And out west where there is less to no humidity to heat and cool a house takes less energy a wood burning stove would heat a large house, and a swamp cooler in the low humidity climate will cool a home. Please keep negative comments to yourself.
I think it's often for heat conservation. I'm not in the UK but I can close off my living room when it's really cold. As an aside, I don't really like totally open plan homes.
So when I see homes in USA on TV with the open plan, I love them - especialy as they allow light through the hallway. However the advantyages of having an enclosed living room are that it does help keep heat in and also makes it easier to have a work from home space that's not disrupted / distracted by the activity in the kitchen. In Ireland, it's a lot to do woht the traditional / vernacular design of old. Thanks for watching JL

It's to conserve heating during the winter. Let's face it, we Americans are energy blind, which in my opinion is disgusting.
