thank you for letting us have this honest view at it, not trying to mask anything. i can imagine it being a bit much to handle but who would not fall in love with that beautiful interior
I lived in Ireland back in 1985-1995 and had the chance to buy a beautiful fixer up cottage for about 10,000. I never did and now regret it. My wish is to return and buy one which is much smaller to handle but remote like this. I am getting on in years but still think it is manageable. I just ran into your channel and will continue to watch for more inspiration. Thank you!💕 Slainte!
That cottage is not far from me, I'm 10 mins from Corry strand but it's not that remote as in the nearest village is Dowra on the Cavan/leitrim border which has a fully stocked Spar supermarket & a pub/restaurant, it's sufficient for all your needs but far enough away to enjoy the peace! The Spar also stocks hard ware items and paint so you'd rarely need to go to Carrick on Shannon, once you have a car nothing is hard to find here in the wild West! It's a beautiful part of Ireland lovely Leitrim, anyone who buys this cottage won't regret it😀
@@Tinkerbelle610 Good luck on the sale and the move. I hope all goes smoothly with grace and ease. I certainly wish I were organized and positioned at the moment to jump on this.
This cottage is absolutely beautiful and so dreamy. I've never been to Ireland but I think that's kind of what I always had in mind when I thought about "a cottage in Ireland". I wish I could purchase it right now!
I'm enjoying this mini series. The fact that this cottage is in good condition, has outbuildings and internet connection should make it a very easy option for a lot of people starting out. Yes, it needs some work to realise its full potential but I think that will allow the new owner to put their mark on it.
It is an interesting building as that quality of stone work is rare in Ireland for a small cottage of the period - rubble work was far more common. It does not look to me like a schoolhouse, my guess is that it would have been the cottage for a trusted retainer for the local big landowner. That area was also surprisingly industrialised in the early 19th Century (coal at Arigna, and lots of good pottery/brick clay), so it may have been associated with one of the workers, possibly someone from Britain as the architecture isn’t particularly vernacular. It’s close to Spencer harbour, which was a mini local industrial area - the lake and rivers/canals allowed access all over Ireland and direct to Dublin and Belfast. This was not a remote area 200 years ago! It was very connected once the canals had been finished by the late 18th Century.
Excellent and very interesting comment . It would be very interesting to find out the history of these cottages . This would help bring them alive . Maybe there are local local historians who could team up with Daniel to research the history and Daniel could then include the history in his videos .
I live near San Francisco, California. Traffic, high prices, high stress, high crime, severe drought, low quality food and pollution. I cried myself to sleep last night. My kids and I talk about how nice it would be to move to Ireland. This cottage is so sweet, the pros would make the cons look like nothing. I would love to hear the birds and rain instead of the freeway and ambulances.
What fun to watch these video tours! I know I will never move to Ireland but one can dream. As an American I find your use of the term “remote” to describe these locations charming. Here remote means it takes the sheriff an hour or more to respond to a call for help. Anyway, thanks for the great videos! You seem to enjoy making them as much as we like watching.
i'm so happy that you're continuing this series, it's the perfect blend of wholesome, educational and relatable ! and it really shows how much you enjoy making it :) i hope this lovely property (those thick exposed walls inside are just to die for) gets a really happy owner soon
This is a beautiful stone cottage and piece of land. I can think of all sorts of possibilities for the property. Sadly, I am 77 and could not live that remotely. If I were 20 years younger, I would love to buy this holding.
Because of the low ceiling in that cottage, the rooms heat up very quickly. Energy efficiency. In Poland standard height of the ceilings was 3.5m - 4m. It become very popular lowering that ceilings to average 2,4 m. that can generate 40/60% savings on hitting cost. After August 15 temperature at night can drop in Poland to around 50F.

Hello, I just stumbled upon your channel and really enjoy your content. The cottage that you brought to us is really cute, even with the minor fix-ups you spoke about. What is more exciting is that it comes with a bit of land and it’s quiet remote location. This kind of remind me of the home I live in now. I used to own a 2350 sq ft home: put it up for sale, and within a week it sold. The home I currently have is only 940 sq ft, with 2 acres and very remote…I live in the woods way up in northern WI…I just love it! Peace and quiet…cozy too! Thank you for your channel and sharing your life with everyone. Cheers!
Hi Daniel, I really enjoy the property's for sale . You are so well at describing the properties the ends and outs .I could just listen on your views living on the land.
Oh my goodness. What a wish home, a pipe dream to ponder. A beautiful piece of property. And as far as the mud goes, I’d find a short growing plant to fill in. Thank you so much for sharing this. I hope you continue..
Your endless ingenuity continues to impress and delight. I'm thoroughly enjoying this new series. If I didn't live in Canada, and was instead in Ireland, I'd definitely come and take a look at this lovely cottage.
I love looking into other people’s properties and houses and seeing how they live and how they have it all organized. There was a time when I spent many hours watching Escape to the country. 😂 there was also a time (melancholic teenage years) I daydreamed of living in Ireland in one of those cottages. Nowadays I prefer sunshine, lots of light and huge windows, and central heating. But I still love seeing how other people live. And I appreciate your take on those properties.

I was thinking about moving to Texas from California to get into some type of small hold or self-sufficient situation on a sprawl of land but these feature videos of potential cottages on land for sale have turned my eyes to the more possibilities of where I could purchase. My mother visited Ireland for several weeks over the years, she said she really liked Ireland, but living there no thanks, cold breezy and damp. everything is so far away, living off the land is a way of life.
Really loving this content! The way you structure this format is so educational and fun at the same time! Amazing to see there are places like this for that kind of price, gets me dreaming :)
Omg!! I absolutely love this place! Too bad I live in the states. We are currently looking for a place exactly like that one. Also in our price range. We are in the process of getting our 125 yr old house ready to sell.
I live in Canada and that's what I love about Europe and Ireland is that there is so much history here in Canada there are many homes from 1850's to 1890's and newer but a home over 200 years old no way since everything that old was built with wood and it rotted away a long time ago or burned down like many old wooden structures have.
I'm in Guelph, Ontario, Canada My place is a small 2bedroom , 1 bath in the historic downtown . We looked on the city map and it dates back to 1860. Well built wood structure. They built them to last back then..not like the junk thrown up now a days .
Actually we in Canada do have older stone buildings. Near me in the Ancaster area I know of a house from 1780. If you go to Montreal or Quebec City you'll find many historic stone buildings which are much older than that.
Such a brilliant presentation of a property! I wish estate agents would do something of this sort, honest and clear, for properties on sale as a standard, that would make it so much easier to make your choice without much stress and worry.
Despite the fact that I made my big move from California to the south of France in 2007, it can be interesting to see how things are elsewhere. The cottage is charming without a doubt. The land, stunning. However, it was your delightful presentation that made this really stand out from the others I have seen. Your passion for this lifestyle and love of the land are like that double rainbow after the storm. Thank you and if I ever get to that part of Ireland, perhaps I will see you in that corner of the pub. It sounds perfect for a writer...
This is a fabulous video and I must admit I do want to look for a rural property. How you popped up is by divine timing. Very thorough and I shall watch more of your work.
I love this series you are doing! It’s so fun. I’m in the US but have been to Ireland once for two weeks & just loved it mightily. How wonderful to sit and dream of buying one of these & going back long-term. Who knows what the future may hold?
Love this cottage! So sorry that I missed the opportunity to purchase it, which I would have done in a heartbeat! Looking forward to seeing another lovely property in the area for sale. Thank you.
I love this and reminds me of my grandparents home. It was damp and cold, we would lite the fires and turn the beds down, to get the damp out before bed. My parents came to the states in 1958, but all our family was back in Ireland. It wasn't until I got older, I started to miss my American amenities, you know heat, garbage disposal, dishwasher, washer AND dryer. 😂
Gosh I love this new series you are doing! In fact it was my introduction to your channel and I’m obsessed with it! I’m so keen to start being more self sufficient and start this homesteading adventure!
Thanks again Daniel! Always looking forward to your videos. Is it possible to let us know how much these little cottages eventually sell for?Stay well.
I love this new series you're doing! It's really helpful to get an idea of what living there would be like and what it would cost. I also always love being introduced to more pigs :)
This Guy is Spot on about membrane and Gravel, before he said it, I thought, Put down Gravel everywhere It would change everything. Great Home I hope The Girl gets a Great Price.
Don't forget the huge conveyancing fees and up to year waiting for paperwork before you can move in...no bin service as seen by the skip in the film and of course the new property taxes planned for property owners from abroad... Ireland is fastly becoming like New Zealand with less tolerance for overseas buyers due to housing shortages...these may be the last properties available on the market at present however it's not easy squaring paperwork away.
Viewed this the other week. lovely cottage, shame it's flanked by a stream on either side of the cottage..the many sandbags outside the neighbours gate gave the clue of potential flooding..one would really need to sort the drainage out..It will make a lovely purchase for someone but needs lots of work..Another gem in lovely Leitrim..Great review..nowhere could we find the age of the cottage in the brochure!Beautiful area ,so picturesque and lovely local village..
Yes, the neighbours had a one off flood when there was exceptional rainfall, less than 2 weeks later the council did extra work on the drainage down there. I live in this cottage and the stream has never caused a problem.
@@Tinkerbelle610 Not one stream but 2!! That's such a huge plus, not a negative. Very easy to harness the power of that little stream via micro hydro (see videos on YT of using old washing machine drums along with other bits) and, in the process, diverting the energy of the stream where you need it to go. That's a huge selling point, not a negative by any stretch of the imagination. Bet wishes to you on the sale and move.
Hmmm. I lived in a Gate Lodge stone cottage on an old countryhouse estatedown in Tipp for a year. Much nicer than these old cottages mainly due to larger windows, better foundations and insulation. And higher ceilings. I would open up the ceiling and raise it up w a mezzanine floor instead of two floors with low ceilings. They are oppressive to live with full time in Winter..People were smaller back then, not so now..:) Lovely site .
This home has a lot of potential and the land is so green. Love the cottage. Someone that loves the area can turn it into an awesome place. Just gorgeous.
I have a two hundred year old cottage and damp is always a bugbear. I noticed in the bathroom you showed a dehumidifier. I have one. I consider it an essential to be honest. I still prefer the dark and damp to modern. It’s a good excuse for cosy winter nights in and a blazing wood stove.
I borrowed the dehumidifier because we had a really warm, damp day just before viewings started, it's only when it's warm and wet that there's a problem otherwise the place is pretty dry.
I normally spend winters in the north of Scotland and I've learned not to rent older places, especially with any kind of a flat roof addition. When you aren't used to it the damp smell gets into your clothes and you cannot get it out. Last time I ended up throwing away clothing that had any polyester in, it just sucked up the smell.
If I bought that cottage as an elderly woman, I would convert thd big outbuilding into guest accommodation, possibly and sir b and ɓ . There's at least room for a little onsuite , if not a separate bedroom and little sitting room . A tiny kitchenette could be at one end of thd sitting area with microwave and airfryer . I'd provide breakfast , possibly in the main cottage and of course a little hamper on arrival with food for a supper. One could even have one bedroom in the cottage as a bed and breakfast, using the tiny bedroom as a bathroom. I'd make a garden all around the cottage with , if possible, French windows to the back garden. Use the small brick store for a freezer etc. The wooden outbuildings for hens , and possibly a goat. The garden would be a reasonable size ( id need sadly to cut downa few trees to make it , but theyd go in the wood store for firewood ) , not too big and give me years of pleasure to create it . Then I'd plant soft fruit, fruit trees and grow vegetables for myself. One could try even peaches and apricots on the front wall of the house . Of course the animals provide fertiliser for the veg and fruit . Can you tell i love too build castles in the air ! Actually twenty years ago I did havd enough money to do that .
I just love old cottages the history the feel of gerations pass 💚 my dream is to move to irland live in a cozy cottage .thankyou for always haveing gr8 videos.
Today I read about a family from Birmingham with two young boys, fed up with the rising crime rate and hectic city life, sold up and moved to Shapinsay, an island in the Orkneys. Their 3 bed house came with 42 acres of land including it's own private beach......all for £125k!!
I have been looking at houses around Leitrim / Cavan areas and this would seem like good value at 85k, however uk property sales and Irish sales are very different and the price shown is always just a starting price, Irish real estate agents are called auctioneers for a reason! If this was for sale today for 85 straight then I’d potentially be a buyer myself. The area around loch Allen amazing
I love watching these videos about cottages in the Irish countryside...If this was in Australia, it would be a nightmare dealing with local councils and heritage overlays...It's so Socialist here, with the CCP takeover of Victoria right now...I watch these videos for an escape from all the madness.. :)
Move to the USA instead you'd love it over there , Ireland is also very socialist ,we like to look after our friends and neighbours in Ireland not shoot them
The thing that would make that perfect, 5-10 more acres. I know you do alot on your land, but I would want a little more...I have 77 acres and honestly that is more than I wanted...but it is what the husband wanted for hunting (which he doesn't do anymore, and doesn't like to trap the pesty raccoons that would like to eat the chickens if given a chance). Love the video, beautiful place, and great insight as always!

This is a fabulous video and I must admit I do want to look for a rural property. How you popped up is by divine timing. Very thorough and I shall watch more of your work.
The cottage is beautiful thanks MB
I am always delighted by your videos. Fine chap you are.
Another great tour, I am glad you brought your rubber boots. Cheers Michael☘
That looks a lovely place with lots of potential
Gosh I love this new series you are doing! In fact it was my introduction to your channel and I’m obsessed with it! I’m so keen to start being more self sufficient and start this homesteading adventure!
enjoyed the tour very much. thanks.
The Cottage is gorgeous and I would so make the outbuilding into a storage area and workshop.
It looks lovely. Thank you for doing this series.
I am fresh to your channel. Subscribed. Good attitude, gent. Hats off.
Thanks again Daniel! Always looking forward to your videos. Is it possible to let us know how much these little cottages eventually sell for?Stay well.
This cottage is absolutely stunning. I would do anything to live there.
Thanks from the states! That little cottage here where I live would be 5 times more $$$ crazy you can still buy a place for 85,000 blessings!
Thanks for posting and sharing. Very comprehensive and thoughtful tour.
Thanks, that was a lovely place.
I love this new series you're doing! It's really helpful to get an idea of what living there would be like and what it would cost. I also always love being introduced to more pigs :)
I like the way you think. And, recognized right off that there were pigs running loose. The outbuildings are wonderful!
Greetings from California. What a great house! The possibilities are endless with that home!
Move in ready! Looks perfect to me.
This Guy is Spot on about membrane and Gravel, before he said it, I thought, Put down Gravel everywhere
It would change everything. Great Home I hope The Girl gets a Great Price.
I think there's an alternative version of me out there, shopping for a remote cottage in Ireland ..gorgeous video thanks
Looks wonderful
Cute a cozy! You do a amazing job at showing and explaining.
The Isle of inish free cones to mind.❤️
Would the property taxes be a large quarterly payment, or paid when purchasing? Would you have any idea please?
I think you have found your calling Daniel - running a marriage introduction service for isolated lonely cottages in rural Ireland .
love it thank you I'm Irish living in Australia and love watching💕
This was so informative and thorough - I always learn so much from your videos. Officially envious of whoever gets to live in this lovely spot 😁
This is great!! I’ve got to have a horse, though!
This is a wonderful series. Who knows, we might be neighbours some day!
Thanks very much ,another interesting view , lovely cottage Bargain ! 🦆🦆🦆🦆
I just love old cottages the history the feel of gerations pass 💚 my dream is to move to irland live in a cozy cottage .thankyou for always haveing gr8 videos.
Thank you it is a lovely cottage
Looks very nice and has plenty of potential. I could imagine the person whom bought this property is living the dream.
I found this video interesting and delightful, thank you. What a beautiful cottage.
Great video looking forward to the next one. Thank You
I love watching these videos about cottages in the Irish countryside...If this was in Australia, it would be a nightmare dealing with local councils and heritage overlays...It's so Socialist here, with the CCP takeover of Victoria right now...I watch these videos for an escape from all the madness..
