    I've made about 30 billion painite mining so far. I'm averaging 225 million per hour. I have 576T +10 cargo per trip and I can more or less guarantee to do the return trip in 2 hours or less. I think you've over-complicated your build. I only use 2 x 3A collectors and 2 x 2D ordinary mining lasers in the slots right under the nose. I put the nose up against the rock and the fragments go directly back to the cargo scoop in most cases. The limpets can easily keep up. I'm pretty sure that a 6C bi-weave would be more than sufficient with all the shield boosters, though I use a 6A prismatic because i happened to have one lying around.
    One final thing: The hotspots are not persistent if you don't have the DSS, so you must carry one even if you've already discovered the hotspots. I don't know whether that's a bug. Some people said they were persistent, others said not. When I left my DSS behind, the hotspots disappeared, so I had to go back for it.

      4 limpets may keep up with only 2 lasers, but using more limpets and lasers is way more efficient.

      @@thetwingamer3968 For optimised mining, you need an Imperial Cutter with 4 mining lasers, 12 collector limpets and a level 5 weapons focused power distributor. You need to grind your rank with the empire up to Prince to get a Cutter. No ship can get clode to a Cutter for laser mining.
      If you haven't been playing long, A Type 6, then a Python, then Anaconda for laser mining. You mine for Platinum instead of painite now to get the highest return, which you find in metallic rings.

    Here is the most important piece of advice about double-painite mining courtesy of Shia Lebeouf: JUST DO IT. The details almost don't matter, since it's so profitable that it blows everything else out of the water. I would argue that your actual credits per hour will be higher if you just go and do it, than if you spend any time trying to optimize your build for it. There are enough double painite hotspots that you don't need fuel or jump range, it'll still only be ~10 minutes away (to mine or sell). You don't need real combat/defense capabilities, since the NPC pirates are simple (you can either evade interdiction, or have enough shield or speed to get away). Any ship with more than ~50 cargo capacity is worthwhile, though 200+ makes for a nice hour or so of mining. The main thing is to only sell your painite at a station where you can get ~700k each for it.

    • @Nuovoswiss
      @Nuovoswiss 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Funny story about how bad the NPC pirates are, when I bought my first ship for double painite mining (a type 9), I made sure to get some beam lasers, a shield cell bank, and a fighter bay, just in case. However, I didn't bother hiring a crew for the fighter, setting up any of the beam lasers on firing groups, or even learning how to deploy the fighter. Sure enough, after my first mining run (2h and 200+ painite in the hold) and I get interdicted en route to sell. With all my previous mining ships, evading the interdiction was a breeze; turns out that the type 9 is not like that. There I am, being yanked out of supercruise, panicking that I have no idea how to use any of my weapon or defensive systems. I start boosting away at a pitiful 200 m/s, watching as the pirate starts shooting my ship. Turns out, even un-engineered shields on a type 9 barely get tickled by a generic NPC pirate during the 15~20 seconds it takes to get back into supercruise. I didn't need to shoot back or deploy a fighter or use shield cells. Just go in a straight line until the FSD charged back up.

Thanks a lot CMDR, o7!!

  • @DarkerStarSword
    @DarkerStarSword 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you are using mining lasers on the Cutter I'd put them in the three front most weapon slots to compensate for the shorter range (I'm currently using 3x2D and a distributor to match). The downside of this is that it consumes the larger slots limiting your ability to fight off pirates, but pirates aren't usually too much of an issue since they spawn when you first enter the ring and haven't yet got any cargo, and if they do spawn later you can always just drop whatever cargo they are requesting.
    I also fit one of each of all the other types of mining gear - not because I'm planning to look for deep core asteroids, but so that if I come across one I can mix things up a little. At the moment I'm forgoing both FSD booster and fuel scoop to fit an extra 5B collector for a total of 12 limpets at a time, and just make sure I'm careful to stop by a system with a large station near the jump in point if I'm traveling further and need to refuel on the way. I have also scouted out a station in a nearby system where I can store a change of equipment as an alternative.

    I tried Shinrarta, nothing. Inara.CZ said they were available in LAKHEO, but when I got there - nothing. Searching other star systems for them always returned "No results within 300 LightYears"...

    I've been playing ED off and on since 2015. I'm mainly a miner and also scavenge/salvager. I've restarted my game many times and started over. What I've found is I'm fine with an asp explorer with 72 tons of cargo for mining and a cobra mk3 for salvaging. That aside I'm fine with it, it's perfect for my playstyle in a great game. My thing is I want to be more immersed while being a miner and such. Basically I'm just a miner that mines and gets credits. I think I'm just trying to rp a sim I guess. Maybe if power play had a workforce as well to strengthen their domains after they've got control. Maybe that would give pirates more stuff to do like blow up miners of other factions to undermine. How do you immerse yourself within the game or is it just a sim?

    • @Pharesm
      @Pharesm 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that's what it sounds like... I get short moments of a role play feeling, when I get to a station, and the radio traffic is fairly convincing!
      But I'm not seeking it, and when it comes to the credits grind, I'll just use the biggest hammer I can swing - every time.
      Accordingly, I'd never dream of starting over. A completely alien concept to me. If I want to "restart" I can just board an Eagle or Adder and that holds my interest for about 30 seconds.

    • @RootBeerTuna

      Opals are worth more, but they're harder to find, so painite in a double hotspot will fill your hold much much quicker. So painite is more profitable in that it's quicker and more efficient to fill up. If you're really really lucky and get a lot of opals in a short amount of time, then you could possibly make more money from opals, but painite is still the better option imo

      What I found when I did my mining to unlock an engineer, was that everyone was going after void opals, so the price dropped and painite was selling for 100k to 200k more per ton than the void opals. Also, whenever anyone does a vid like this, all the “get rich quick” folks over sell the product and crash the prices. Because of that, void opals are probably selling for more than painite again.
