    There is probably a lot more to add about ProRes Raw and BRAW but tried to get through the basic stuff first. We might do a follow-up video to dive deeper into it and show footage examples and answer any questions we get in the comment section on this video! Let us know if you have any specific questions!

      Great video! I've actually been binging on a bunch of them. 😁 I'm glad I saw that segment at the end about BRAW not working on FCPX. I use a 2015 Mac. Do you think it'll run the current Davinci Resolve well? I'm getting ready to transition from a Panasonic G85 and FCPX to a BMPCC 4k and Davinci.

      @@RoadtrippinwithTakacs glad you're liking the videos! That's an interesting question. I would say it has the potential to work. Davinci runs better than premiere and the BRAW codecs make it easier on your computer while editing so it might be fine. The good thing is that the pocket 4k comes with davinci resolve for free so at least you could test it for free. I'm more of a PC guys than a Mac guy so that's about where my helpfulness ends 😂

    I hope ProRes raw gets resolve support soon. PRRAW is so accessable, and Resolve is the most robust editor in 2021.

      @@FrameVoyager Thanks. Same to you if you have any questions as well. From a backpack and travel perspective the BMPCC4K was definitely a big transition coming from a Sony a6300. I hate how Apple is pulling a classic Apple if it comes to ProRes RAW compatability. Only available on one brand of recorders and only compatible with a very limited range of apps on one specific operating system. Okay, seems like you don't even want me using your system, guess I won't 🤷‍♂️

    • @FrameVoyager

    The most important DIFFERENCE of B-RAW vs PRO-RES RAW was covered in barely 4seconds , from 5.09-5.13 ......
    Which is rather unacceptable when the title is "ProRes RAW vs. BRAW"
    These 4 seconds are the absolute DEFINITION of the concept described by the words "RAW codec".
    Being able to manipulate the values of the most important features which create an image , in post production ,
    without loosing absolutely any actual quality.
    BRAW is ages ahead from PRORES RAW which has barely scratched this particular surface.
    It is like comparing JPEG vs RAW photos and talking about compression , processing efficiency and file sizes.
    You should shed (all the possible) light on this particular matter.

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      While I agree with a lot of your points, I probably need to make a part 2 to this video. I probably needed to be a little more specific on what aspects of the codec I was looking at. For me, this video kind of goes into assuming you know what RAW is and is more look at compression and bitrates that it offers vs. BRAW. Appreciate the comments though! Totally fine to be called out if we missed on something. Would love to follow back up with you when we circle back around to this subject and get your thoughts on it if you're interested?

    It’s 2023 and I don’t think there has been much movement in the RAW battle? Unless I missed something?
    As it stands, and to my knowledge, ProRes RAW is still the “more RAW” format. Last time I checked BRAW was doing some sort of Pre-bayering of the image which was causing noise in high ISO images, especially if you isolate the blue channel. Whereas ProRes RAW was giving a more true RAW file in the same tests - non-smeary pixel definition.
    Anyway here we are years later with an arduous workflow because Resolve still doesn’t allow us to import ProRes RAW. We either have to import to Final Cut, white balance, save as 4444, then import to Resolve OR we have to convert to cDNG then import. NEITHER of these is ideal!
    If anyone knows of any changes since this video was posted, please comment! I’d love to know how you’re handling RAW in 2023!

  • @unbound_classic
    @unbound_classic ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As an update Final Cut Pro now has a third party BRAW workflow extension that allows native BRAW editing without transcoding. It's called BRAW Toolbox. Though you do have to import through the workflow extension. But at least the support is there now.... Sadly both companies have not got over whatever issues they seem to have. Which is sad as they used to work closely with each other.

    • @FrameVoyager
      @FrameVoyager  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No problem at all! On BRAW you can in post and I'm fairly certain you can on Pro Res RAW as well. Most RAW formats always allow you to be able to adjust in post. I will say though, from experience, it's much easier to get it close to correct white balance then it is to have it way off. If it's too far off, I've seen color corrections just not look right even when you do get them balanced correctly.

      1. As far as which is sharper, it's difficult to answer because the opinion really varies between videographers and what your preference is. I would venture to say that ProRes Raw probably has a slight edge in sharpness, but that edge is fairly small.
